"before being overruled"...will Hawley be immediately overruled???
Should he be?
Yes.

Were they overruled in 2016 because they were not joined by a Senator ?MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:07 pm "before being overruled"...will Hawley be immediately overruled???

Yes.
Based on what I've read, if joined by a Senator there has to be 2 hrs of debate in both houses for each state objected to.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... n-january/
When Congress convenes to vote to count each state’s electors and confirm results, a lawmaker from each chamber, the House of Representatives and the Senate, challenges one state’s electors at a time. Hawley is the first senator to confirm he’ll join some of these challenges...
The law says lawmakers don’t have to give a detailed explanation for why they object; they basically just object in writing, which Vice President Pence will read out loud.
The House and the Senate then separate and debate the challenge for up to two hours.
They vote in separate sessions on whether to accept or reject the challenge to that state’s electors. They have to do this for each state challenged, and Trump’s allies are giving indications they could try to challenge results in several states. So it’s possible Jan. 6 could be a long day.

I thought you were saying he's doing nothing different than earlier 'objections' raised...but ahhh, this one gives this a-hole who will never, ever, get my vote for higher office a chance to begin his 2024 run for POTUS.old salt wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:21 pmWere they overruled in 2016 because they were not joined by a Senator ?MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:07 pm "before being overruled"...will Hawley be immediately overruled???

It's ridiculous and eminently anti-American. Shame on him and anyone cheering this on.

How's that different from what Sen Boxer did in 2004 ?MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:25 pmI thought you were saying he's doing nothing different than earlier 'objections' raised...but ahhh, this one gives this a-hole who will never, ever, get my vote for higher office a chance to begin his 2024 run for POTUS.old salt wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:21 pmWere they overruled in 2016 because they were not joined by a Senator ?MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:07 pm "before being overruled"...will Hawley be immediately overruled???

Has Sen. Weasel Hawley said anything like what Sen. Boxer said at the time:
"The move was not designed to overturn the re-election of President Bush, said Ohio Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones and California Sen. Barbara Boxer, who filed the objection."
Has Trump, as the losing candidate, said anything like John Kerry said at the time:
"Our legal teams on the ground have found no evidence that would change the outcome of the election," Kerry said.
Answer -- of course they didn't.
And Weasel Hawley is objecting to PA's election. As a Yale Law grad and former SCOTUS clerk, he obviously knows that the Trumpers lost at least 15 court cases in PA. Including decisions by the PA Supreme Court and by a Trump appointed federal judge. And also including three cases over PA heard by SCOTUS.
So take your lame what-about-ism Salty and shove it up your butt.
For a guy who once swore to defend the Constitution, you are a forking disgrace.

Boycott stupid. Country over party.
Re: 2020 Elections - Donald Trump FIRED
Let me explain it to you Salty in terms maybe even you can understand.
Saying there’s tons of election fraud without evidence is actually election fraud.
Project much?

Old Salt's bedmate:
Hawley’s move was cheered by several pro-Trump Republicans, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.). “Welcome aboard, Senator,” Gaetz said in a tweet.
How proud he must be.

It will be interesting to see what Republicans rise to take issue with Hawley and how clearly they push back.seacoaster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 7:52 am Sasse:

Sasse might. He has the conservative bona fides to do so. And the intellect.
Personally, I'd like some Republicans to stand up and call Hawley out: "Shame on you, Senator, shame on you" but the rules prohibit direct attacks on fellow Senators, so it will be interesting to watch how decorum is kept.
But so appalling.

No he doesn't. Biden said there can be no debate because no Senator had joined in the objections.seacoaster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:16 am Katyal wins:

Re: 2020 Elections - Donald Trump FIRED
Nowhere in his statement, press release, or public appearances (which I have seen) does Hawley advocate, or even mention, overturning the election.ggait wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 1:24 am Has Sen. Weasel Hawley said anything like what Sen. Boxer said at the time:

He's no different than Boxer or Tubbs-Jones in that regard. He has acknowledged that he is just one Senator & he's doing what he can to get answers about the conduct of the election for the citizens of MO whom he represents.
In your line of work, do you find personal attacks & insults effective ?
