Excerpt from Siena Coach Liam Gleason's holiday email re: 2021 MAAC schedule:

"I hope this email finds you well and that you and your family are healthy. We have been waiting to hear some news on our spring schedule since the end of the semester. Unfortunately, there has not been a definitive answer from the MAAC conference yet. To at least give you some news, I can tell you which way the conference is currently leaning. It looks like we will have a conference only schedule in the spring. There is a proposal of having a 3 game preliminary schedule against 3 MAAC teams before starting our normal 7 game conference schedule, which would be followed by a 4 team playoff to decide the 2021 MAAC Champion. If this proposed schedule passes, we can expect a return date of early February. The latest communication from the MAAC conference stated that there will be a meeting on January 6th to confirm spring schedules. We hope to know our return date soon after."

2021 Schedule/Game news

Post by DU-fan »

Anyone have any 2021 Schedule/Game news?

The "Is a 2021 season going to happen?" forum has become a political debate with almost no lacrosse information.

I did hear that Denver and Utah hope to play their first game in the last weekend of January.

I assume that, like football, most schedules will be focused on conference play.

Big East, ACC and More Conference Scheduling Details Emerge For 2021

There’s a bit more clarity surrounding the 2021 college lacrosse schedule, as details from the conference level are starting to emerge.

The Big East is targeting a double round-robin format for its 2021 conference season, according to a coach and an administrator. In men’s that will feature home and away contests for each team. For women’s, that means two games the same weekend featuring the same opponents at the same site.

The current plan is still for four-team conference tournaments starting May 6, and Big East teams are exploring out-of-conference games.

The ACC men’s lacrosse season is also taking shape. Multiple coaches confirmed there will be no conference tournament, and that teams will play six conference games. Chris Jastzrembski first tweeted many of the ACC details Tuesday, adding the format would be two games against two opponents and one against others.

An ACC coach said up to four non-conference games could be added; one ACC team has a non-conference game scheduled as early as Feb. 13. Iit was unclear what the ACC women’s format would be for ’21.

Inside Lacrosse reported earlier in the week a two-division format for Patriot League men’s and women’s lacrosse.

In addition, an America East men’s and women’s coach were exploring full schedules including non-conference games, which would likely be played before the conference season started in March. One potential move, at least in women’s, was to create an open week in April for a non-conference opponent.

Men’s coaches in the MAAC were anticipating no non-conference games.

The schedule is becoming more clear, though particularly non-conference games are still a big puzzle to put together. With limits on windows in schedule, some schools having travel limitations, plus the additional cost of testing and playing teams with similar testing requirements, those schedules were largely works in progress.

And, with everything, all proposals are pending the COVID-19 pandemic does not take a significant turn.

It might be a scrimmage. But, I would expect non-conf teams need all the games they can get with conferences playing double games.

If that's not a scrimmage that's just way too early. I heard Utah was finalizing games with a Big Ten and ACC team too. Perhaps Denver and Utah would be playing right before Denver's conference slate begins.

Contrary to popular belief, we actually have beautiful weather throughout the winter. It will be 57 degrees and sunny on Christmas day. 58 on Saturday 8-)

Tambroni on LSN comments on the schedule backs up what Myers said. Back on campus mid to late January with play starting in February. Schedule would be Big Ten heavy. Didn’t say anything about OOC play. I believe on the IL podcast they said there maybe OOC play for the men in the Big Ten.

My guess if so the OOC would be regional

For the record, under my roof, from my wife to my kids, we talk about Colorado like a child talks about Disney World. Snow shmow. For four years, these boys are living in paradise.

I really hope the Big 10 and the ACC can schedule a few long standing traditional games in 2021. The season would not be right without these matchups: Cuse vs Hopkins, UNC vs Hopkins & Maryland, ND vs Ohio St and UVA vs Hopkins & Maryland. Without games like these, how will they even decide who goes to the postseason? I guess let's hope they have playoffs!

Would make sense for DU to play OSU and ND, as well as UU and AFA for their non-con games.

It's UU and Cleveland State that could really have trouble scheduling because of their independent status. The B1G appears to only want its teams playing schools that meet the B1G testing protocols.

I expect that Denver and Duke will play too. Tierney and Danowski like to play each other.

I agree non-conf teams are going to struggle. As well as the Ivies, which I think are 50/50 at best for having a season.

i don't even want to think about the Ivies not having a season. Last season, so many ivy teams looked great and... At least everybody had their season cut short.
