Asking for a friend.
Because this is what it says above the orange block that includes "exclude ex-military" as one possible hiring practice:
The word "military" does not appear anywhere else in the document.Improving police training and the hiring process were themes for community stakeholders when asked about areas for RPD improvement. Below are the types of trainings and ideas for hiring practices that respondents provided.
So it's not a recommendation of this report (much less a policy of the city of Racine), just one "idea" that somebody mentioned.
You want to know who is actually defunding the police?
Republicans in Congress, who refuse any aid to cities that are running out of money (due to covid and the utterly bothced federal response) that, you know, pays the police.

On the page titled HIRING AND TRAINING, In the nice big orange box with the heading “HIRING PRACTICES” it clearly states “EXLUDE EX-MILITARY FOR POSSIBLE MILITARISTIC APPROACH”.

I do think there can be serious issues with hiring _some_ types of ex-military. Training for combat and training for police work should not be at all the same. There is some significant pushback to hiring from the military because how you clear a street in Iraq or Afghanistan is far different from dealing with, say, a domestic dispute that might turn violent, but does not necessarily have to.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:06 pmIt says what it says, and last I checked “exclude” still has the same meaning.seacoaster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 4:51 pmWhen you read stuff from “granderson33” do you just take it on faith then that an entire, multifaceted policy discussion is, for example, excluding ex-military?youthathletics wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 2:26 pmAnd now they want to discriminant against ex-military. https://www.instagram.com/p/CJBxpvrLv71 ... _copy_linkkramerica.inc wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 9:18 am Seattle "Defund the police" politician calls the police... for a misdemeanor crime...that she is trying to legalize!

Ex MPs might be decent choices, as they are the military law enforcement, but front-line infantry might not without further investigation into whether their roles and personalities conflict with modern policing.

Combat Infantrymen are well trained & extremely discilpined. They operate as trained, within their ROE.RedFromMI wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:42 pmI do think there can be serious issues with hiring _some_ types of ex-military. Read up on our COIN strategy crafted by Petraeus, McChrystal & Flynn for Iraq & Afghanistan. It includes a lot of community outreach.
That's why you have police academies & department manuals. The Police are scrambling for qualified applicants.
They're fortunate for every honorably discharged infantryman they can recruit, imho.

The authors of the report?
No.
The mayor of Racine?
No.
Anyone in any position of authority whatsoever in Racine?
No.
Yet the twitter post you quoted wants everyone to attack the mayor, who did not say it and did not endorse it in any way.
But none of that seems to matter to you and your fellow pitchfork-wielders.

Re: Race in America - Riots Explode in Minneapolis
It would be interesting to see stats on police misconduct and correlate them with military background.
My guess is that there's no correlation, but it may well be the ex-military have less misconduct.
That would be a useful reply to the anonymous private citizen in Racine (you know, the one who actually made the comment that has everyone so upset) who's apparently afraid of ex-military as police.
Is that person's fear justified or not?
Let's get some facts.
Wild idea, I know.

I clicked it, read it, and quoted from it.
You're the one who hasn't read it. You just found that one orange block (because the twitter dude pointed you to it), but still don't seem to know WHOSE opinion that block represents. Hint: that orange block is NOT part of the recommendations of the Racine police reform task force!

Top Chicago city lawyer resigns over Anjanette Young wrongful police raid
Footage of February 2019 raid made in error stokes uproar
Black woman was handcuffed and not allowed to dress
The city of Chicago’s top attorney resigned on Sunday, in the fallout from a botched and wrongful police raid on the home of a Black woman who was not allowed to put on clothes before being handcuffed.
orporation counsel Mark Flessner announced the move in an email to employees, saying he was only recently involved with the legal case connected to police video of the February 2019 raid, made in error on the home of social worker Anjanette Young. Flessner did not say if he was asked to resign.
“It is clear that the raid of Anjanette Young’s home was a tragedy that we must learn from,” Flessner said in a statement. “Standing up for racial injustice and fighting for equality within our justice system are crucial matters that we must continue to work toward addressing as a community.”
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she accepted Flessner’s resignation.
“I am committed to a full review of everything that occurred surrounding this incident, will take corrective action where appropriate, and will hold people accountable,” Lightfoot said.

It would help improve things in that city if the cops resigned (and forfeited their pensions) as well.

This whole dialogue is a small case study in how "information" is created, and is delivered into the willing minds of fellow members of an echo chamber. I loved the complete disregard for the reality that the GOP is effectively defunding state and municipal law enforcement by refusing aid to states, counties and towns. Nice pivot. I am not arguing for or against police reform...you two injected that to deflect from the message that was highlighted on the neon sign of that page. They intentionally chose to put in ink, and communicate to HR or whomever hires police, to try and avoid ex-military as candidates.seacoaster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 7:35 amThis whole dialogue is a small case study in how "information" is created, and is delivered into the willing minds of fellow members of an echo chamber. Maybe they should just develop a Fred Rogers school of policing. Instead of handguns the police could be issued nerf guns that fire marshmallows. The bad guys always react positively to a kind and soft voice. Do you know how to say that is a bad thing to do? Very good, I knew you could do it, now pull that womans panties up where they belong and say your very sorry.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:06 pmIt says what it says, and last I checked “exclude” still has the same meaning.seacoaster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 4:51 pmWhen you read stuff from “granderson33” do you just take it on faith then that an entire, multifaceted policy discussion is, for example, excluding ex-military?youthathletics wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 2:26 pmAnd now they want to discriminant against ex-military. https://www.instagram.com/p/CJBxpvrLv71 ... _copy_linkkramerica.inc wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 9:18 am Seattle "Defund the police" politician calls the police... for a misdemeanor crime...that she is trying to legalize!

Yes, I found the link from social media, but the article is from the city govt' of Racine, Wi, where the bright orange sign said what it said. Seems you are unwilling to recognize that they, the Racine Gov't, called out avoiding ex-military as potential hires, shame on you. I guess in your world, military are just peons and killing machines, un-educated with no discipline, lack qualifications, incapable of tolerance or hell....even being a police officer.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 9:15 am I'd agree with that...our "delusional right wingers on this forum" have relatively limited delusions...it would be a truer statement of the generalized form...eg "many" or "some delusional right wingers"...
