Covid is serious. Biden's inauguration should be handled the exact same way all the HIGH school and college graduations were this spring. Online.old salt wrote: ↑Sun Nov 08, 2020 7:51 pmThat may well be true. More than one thing can be true at the same time. No election in recent history has presented such widespread opportunity for fraud, or been cobbled together so quickly. Mail in voting is obviously the wave of the future. It's introduction on this scale was hastened by the pandemic. By taking a step backward technologically, by relying soley on paper ballots, we protect ourselves from the electronic tampering we were so threatened by. Additionally, when chain of custody is maintained, we have a consistent audit trail to fairly & accurately adjudicate election challenges. This can increase public confidence in the results & bolster the legitimacy of the winners.RedFromMI wrote: ↑Sun Nov 08, 2020 5:03 pmThe Bogus Fraud Claims Are All About Giving Trump An Off-Ramp, Officials SayPresident Donald Trump has promised legal action in the coming days as he refused to concede his loss to Democrat Joe Biden, making an aggressive pitch for donors to help finance any court fight.
Trump and his campaign have leveled accusations of large-scale voter fraud in Pennsylvania and other states that broke for Biden, so far without proof.
But senior officials, campaign aides and allies told The Associated Press that overwhelming evidence of fraud isn’t really the point.
The strategy to wage a legal fight against the votes tallied for Biden in Pennsylvania and other places is more to provide Trump with an off-ramp for a loss he can’t quite grasp and less about changing the election’s outcome, the officials said. They spoke to AP on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal strategy.
Trump aides and allies also acknowledged privately the legal fights would — at best — forestall the inevitable, and some had deep reservations about the president’s attempts to undermine faith in the vote. But they said Trump and a core group of loyalists were aiming to keep his base of supporters on his side even in defeat.
There has never been a presidential election in memory where such widespread fraud was alleged.
In this specific election, the recounts & challenges provide a cooling off period for Trump & his supporters. The more closely the contested states are audited, the greater the acceptance of the ultimate results.
In terms of healing the country, the less Pres Biden does to rub the noses of Trump & his supporters in their loss, the more effective he will be as a leader. Just as it did with his campaign, Covid can work to Biden's advantage in the transition & inauguration. He can let Trump slink out of DC, muttering about his stolen re-election & hold a scaled down inauguration that sets an example for how to handle public gatherings during his Presidency. ...it will also help keep the crowds, from both extremes, off the streets, & let merchants & residents take down the plywood.
The Democrats aren't seriously going to have a large gathering on the Mall, are they? When they can watch the "speech" and ceremony online, with Joe and Jill and all the other clowns in the Rose Garden.
