Re: Regulation - Too Much or Too Little?
privatization and deregulation are what led to the mess in flint, Michigan ~ Trump's continued deregulation schemes will make matters worse for that community and others:
https://www.thenation.com/article/trump ... r-systems/
it’s critical that industry be held accountable for failures, but using public funds to support fixes for those privatization failures threatens a moral hazard and systematic violation of the “polluter pay” principle that should drive environmental and health protections. On top of bringing further industry-driven environmental and health risks, privatization paves the way for labor and consumer abuses in public services.
All to often, thanks to Republican politricks, we are stuck with the stupidity of privatizing profits and socializing losses/costs. The solution, of course, is to have more regulation and the imposition of preventive measures.

in order to do it properly we need to be able to build in some form of accountability. I get the sense that honor, duty and integrity guided most of our bureaucrats in the past - that has been missing from government service for something like 40 years. Without motivation to provide great service - an over-regulated world will also fall flat. Also, regulatory bodies (aka bureaucracies) tend to prioritize growth over all else. Authority creep is a key part of any ambitious bureaucrat's agenda. So if we are going to go with increased/enhanced regulation, we should be mindful of the need to explicitly set boundaries and expectations.Brooklyn wrote:All to often, thanks to Republican politricks, we are stuck with the stupidity of privatizing profits and socializing losses/costs. and to enforce those regs when they are violated - but more importantly, taking preventive measures so that unhappy events such as those in Flint, MI do not happen again

Regulation is good. Let's regulate everything! Including how often you can post on here. See how that works?Brooklyn wrote:if we are going to go with increased/enhanced regulation, we should be mindful of the need to explicitly set boundaries and expectations

Privitization is what makes our society so great. It is the utmost way for us to be free. I understand some regulations are good especially for market failures, but Democrats want to control everything. They think Gov is the savior. Sorry about Flint, but they are run by Democrats. No surprise they have issues.

Only when the shoe fits...and BOY does this fit. You have no more nuanced view of Flint Michigan than "since it's run by Dems, its a shirthole. Soo, informative.

Great news. Name five regulations that Trump and the R's have repealed since he took office that affect you directly.
Then when you've done that, name five State regulations in your home State that the R's have repealed that affect you directly.
Do that, and I'll believe you---that Republican legislators don't like regulation.

Flint is a ****hole, so is Detroit, so is Baltimore, so is Chicago. I could name just about every major city in the US. What do they have in common? They are ruled by Democrats. The ideology is to keep inner city folks as dependent on government assistance as possible in order to secure votes for their base. It is another form of plantation slavery today. It is sickening and sad to watch. Victimhood is run amok. Way to go Dems. You have ruined major cities in the US. Answer me this: Would you feel comfortable walking the streets at night in inner city Chicago? Flint? Baltimore? If you answered yes, you are a liar.dislaxxic wrote:Only when the shoe fits...and BOY does this fit. You have no more nuanced view of Flint Michigan than "since it's run by Dems, its a shirthole. Bandito just can't stop trolling, can he? There is literally no point to that last post other than to validate his own narrow-minded opinion of the issue.

''Privitization is what makes our society so great''
Yeah it sure worked for Hoover in 1929.
''Flint, but they are run by Democrats''
State governor = Republican Snyder.
As we all know, responsibility goes to the top.
''Dems think ... Gov is the savior''
Some Republicans such as Reagan said 'government is the problem' so that it needs to be removed from every aspect of your life. Whatever the problem is, government is NOT the solution. What's funny is that when it comes to foreign affairs, to them, government is the exclusive solution. Reagan sends in Marines to Beirut and hundreds needlessly die in a matter that never concerned the USA in the first place. Same thing happened in many conflicts overseas.
Today, some deluded right wingers are again harping on the idea that "free market" solves everything. Yet, none speak out against the $12 billion welfare gift Trump gave to farmers, many of whom claim to live such "independent" life styles.
Nobody is more dependent on the government than are the military industrial complex and corporate welfare recipients. As usual, not one word of objection from the delusional far right.

Bandito does not seem to realize that Flint was run by emergency managers all appointed by a Republican governor from 2011-2015. They were in charge during the crisis, and the last two of four total are facing criminal charges stemming from their management during the water crisis.
You can pin this one right on the Republicans in charge.

Category Five Storm Hurricane Michael hits the South with disastrous results. It's a good bet all the anti-government, anti-regulatory body right wingers who live in that region will gladly look to the government to save their sorry butts from all the storm damage.
