From Wikipedia:
Now you see why the C- grade...During the 2016 United States presidential election, Trafalgar Group was the only polling firm showing Donald Trump winning the state of Michigan, which he ultimately did, and – according to RealClearPolitics – "nearly the only" one correctly predicting Trump's win in Pennsylvania.[7] Nevertheless, the company has been criticized because its numbers for those states significantly overstated Trump’s support. It predicted that he would win Michigan by 4.5%; his actual margin was 0.23%. For Pennsylvania, its prediction was for Trump to win by 4%, but he actually won by 0.72%. This tilt toward Trump caused Trafalgar to make the wrong call on Nevada, predicting a Trump win by 5% in a state Hillary Clinton won by 2.4%.[8] In all of these cases, the polls by Trafalgar was either no more accurate, or less accurate, than other polls.
Do you know that Nate Silver is their competitor? That's like asking a Hounds fan what he thinks of Hopkins lacrosse.
Trafalgar were the ONLY pollsters correctly predicting Trump in 2016 winning MI and PA, where most pollsters had Trump losing by 5% or more. Also, for the 2018 elections, they simply swept the field, particularly in Florida where every pollster had Gillum winning by 3-7%, and Trafalgar had DeSantis winning.
here's the interesting tidbit: for 2020, Trafalgar has Trump literally pulling away in every battleground state including Arizona, where every pollster has Biden up nearly 10%.
I'd hold up measuring those drapes.
Re: 2020 Elections - Dems vs Trumpublicons
Silver is not a "competitor" as he does not conduct polls. He collects the data from all he can, evaluates them and makes averages from them - and thus generally good predictions that overcome biases.
Your other argument is pretty much what my Wiki excerpt says. They got the "win" right but were off by more than the poll averages...
Still deserve a C- grade, not an A or B.

https://www.axios.com/trump-advisers-br ... ce=twitterScoop: Trump's advisers brace for loss, point fingers
Three senior Trump advisers who recently talked to campaign manager Bill Stepien walked away believing he thinks they will lose.
The big picture: The Trump campaign is filled with internal blaming and pre-spinning of a potential loss, accelerating a dire mood that's driven by a daily barrage of bleak headlines, campaign and White House officials tell me.
- "A lot of this is the president himself," one adviser said. "You can't heal a patient who doesn't want to take the diagnosis."
Between the lines: Stepien's critics say he is in CYA mode, refusing to make tough decisions that might incur Trump's wrath while setting up excuses for what polls suggest could be a shellacking by Joe Biden.
- But Stepien's defenders tell me the campaign sees several remaining paths to victory, and note that it's hardly his fault when the president insists on actions like taking a joyride with the Secret Service while infected by COVID-19.
- They added that it's also hardly Stepien's fault that Trump continues to attack his public health officials and present views that are out of step with public opinion — such as his denigration of the basic safety act of wearing a mask.
- He's also dealing with a money shortage, driven by heavy early spending by his predecessor, Brad Parscale, who was demoted this summer.
What's new: In reporting out this story, Axios learned that Stepien has described to some colleagues that he sees at least three pathways to 270 electoral votes.
- Stepien tells them the "easy part” is winning Ohio, Florida, Georgia, Iowa and Maine’s second congressional district. From there, the first pathway, and the one he views as most likely, is for Trump to win Arizona, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
- His second pathway would be for Trump to win Arizona, North Carolina and Michigan.
- And pathway three — the one Stepien views as least likely of the options — does not include Arizona but involves Trump winning North Carolina, Michigan and Nevada.
- Those states are where Trump will be spending the vast bulk of his time between now and Nov. 3, and where the Trump campaign is spending most of its money.
- The states in none of Stepien's three scenarios: Wisconsin or Minnesota.

Re: 2020 Elections - Dems vs Trumpublicons
yup, when you answer difficult questions in a measured way rather than spewing more nonsense you provide far less of a target to push harder on. Steph pushed him on the court packing question, multiple questions...Biden chose to stick to his tactic to postpone saying exactly what he would do, but promises to say before Election Day...we'll see if he follows through on that. But he also explained that he wants to see how the Barrett nomination is handled, clearly he wants to provide room for a couple more GOP Senators to postpone that vote until after the election, or altogether, taking off the table any necessity to go to the extreme of adding Justices...Biden clearly doesn't want that to be what happens...unless Barrett is jammed through, and even then he's loathe to go there. But I think he'll say yes, he'll consider it if elected and the Senate would support. But it's not as if he got off the hook with no question or follow-ups.6ftstick wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:43 amBiden? You can complain all you want, but Biden does not react to being pressed by getting prickly and defensive like Trump. So when interviewed in this manner, you confuse genial answering of Biden with the interviewer not treating him the same - and you are right they are not treated the same.
Trump just cannot help himself because he throws out bald-faced lies that are so easy to check in real time (because they are rarely NEW lies) and Savannah actually pressed him on them. When he goes on Fox, he rarely gets challenged in any way).
First question to trump common Don you're a white supremacist aren't ya?
Then every question after that was snide snarky and from a leftist point of view.
Poor Trumpy, he's asked questions about truly outrageous things he's recently said. So unfair.
Trumpy responds with nonsense, asked follow up questions. So unfair.
It's no wonder that Trump desperately didn't want to be in a direct debate format taking questions from citizens, with follow ups from moderator or opponent, and not being able to interrupt...So unfair.
Biden was pushed on trade, crime bills, and even the "You ain't black" comment...it was no walk in the park, except that he knows how to answer tough questions without getting angry.
Trump wanted this stage, he didn't want to debate in an environment where his nonsense and rude demeanor could be observed side by side against Biden's reasonableness. So stop whining that he was asked follow-up questions.
Trump has this arrogant view that he can simply talk over a questioner, whether a citizen, or a moderator, or an opponent. But if the rules don't allow him to interrupt, to "dominate", he doesn't want to play...more whine.
So, we get 60 minutes and run from Trump, 90 minutes and stick around from Biden.
Show the voters more Trump and he'll continue to bleed voters.

Guess you haven't seen many Trump rallies

One of the reasons Trump doesn't get questions -- or at least the softballs you would like: "Tell us, Orange Beauty, about your success with ISIS" -- is because he lies about so many many other things. He is to blame for the coverage he gets. If the guy had managed the virus in at least a creditable way, and acted mildly throughout the campaign, he'd be a slam dunk to win again. You feel put-upon; but it is your horse in this race that is causing it. You just want to feed his and, now, your narrative by blaming "the media."6ftstick wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 12:14 pmDid the moderator ask about:seacoaster wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 11:39 amJeez, man: be careful if someone offers a bridge cheap. Re: 2020 Elections - Dems vs Trumpublicons
Trump is definitely going to get lots and lots of votes. And there's strong evidence that, like 2016, there will be new voters who have never voted before or have rarely voted before, despite having that right and civic responsibility for decades of their lives, to register and vote for him. We can debate about how great it is that these perennial non-voters, with no prior civic voting engagement, are supporting a demagogue, but hey, a voter is a voter, all citizens. Looks like he'll add some more such in 2020.6ftstick wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 12:22 pmLike he did in 2016MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 12:16 pmyup, when you answer difficult questions in a measured way rather than spewing more nonsense you provide far less of a target to push harder on. On the other hand, he's bleeding like a stuck pig way too many of those suburban white voters who'd pulled the lever for him in 2016, and he's even bleeding rural white voters from farm country. But most importantly, he's way, way upside down on older voters, previously the base of the GOP, the most reliable voting group.
He's lost the Independent voters badly, and that gets worse every time they see him.
And he's energized the segments of traditional D voters in ways that may rival or even exceed the turnouts stimulated by the historic Obama candidacy. If that's indeed the case, voter suppression efforts are going to be overwhelmed.
so, sure, he's going to add some voters to his hard core, though really just those who have rarely voted before. He's not pulling, rather he's losing, the groups that were crucial to his squeaking by in 2016.
