That isn’t what your initial post said.

Perhaps you can let us know when the stats are being used as a weapon and when not. In your view.

If someone says Trump is responsible for 200,000+ of the deaths, then, yes, that would be using these statistics as a weapon. But a general reporting of them as they develop on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis is not weaponizing them.

My perception is that they are only being used as a “weapon” (whatever that means) a very small amount of the time.
You are correct, it was not. It may also have been over the top saying people look at it with people looking at it with glee or what ever I said.

But how many months had we been dealing with someone posting the numbers and saying what a POS the president is? Every time the numbers went up, the president is a POS using those numbers as another reason to say the president is a POS. That is my perception. That and the posts that surround the posting of those numbers.

And no, if you are wondering, I do not think the Federal response has been adequate and I do not think the presidents rhetoric is helpful.

I am done with this.

Pennsylvania added nearly 1,600 Covid-19 cases, the state health department reported Thursday, marking the 10th consecutive day with more than 1,000 new cases.

The state reported an additional 21 new deaths.

Earlier Thursday, the state said it would be adding an outdoor testing clinic in Ralpho Township, Northumberland County, to contain what health officials say is a “recent rapid increase in Covid-19 cases.”

I guess I just do not get why people feel the need to continually post increased death tolls or projections. Must have something to do with the sense of I told you so............... It almost seems like some are happy to see these numbers go up.

Don't give me that same old line about.......we are just holding this Administration accountable for all the deaths.....blah...blah...blah. That ship sailed a long time ago. Pointing out increased deaths or potential deaths does nothing to further the conversation but What the heck....I may be in the minority here.

Carry on, I anxiously wait for the next ghoulish account of the dead or projection of the dead.
covid seems to be catching on in most of the first world countries. and they were all doing so well. seems contagious.
I don’t see the point in bringing up death toll. roll tide!
And you think that brining it up is going to change anyone's mind that will go to a game?
Um......yes?

You're telling me that you're not looking at how your State is doing when making choices for you and your family?

Would you prefer to operate with no info. at all?

I look at rates of infection and death rates weekly. This is how free markets are supposed to work: informed consumers making their own choices. Can't do that without the "informed" part.

Not really....because I'm pretty sure the answer is that yes, you keep an eye on infections and death rates in your area.

It's an election year in America. Even wearing a stupid piece of cloth on one's face during a pandemic has managed to be politicized.

If you can politicize THAT? Everything is political in America. It sucks, but here we are.....

I really do not look at the fatality data other than the relative data of the case fatality ratio vs the infection fatality ratio. I’m interestedly in how this all lines up with the actual virulence of the virus. We had too many die way too long ago.

I do look at the local levels of infection, usually as a percentage of tested. Both at my place of work and home. Why? I can alter my activities accordingly if I choose. Following the number of deaths does not help in that regard. That is the relevant data I use to make “informed “ decisions.

I wholeheartedly agree on your politics comment.

Bart and Joe,
You guys do bring up a fair point, that these numbers really are rather depressing, perhaps all the more so if/when we recognize that lots and lots of people simply don't care.

Are they sometimes 'weapons' to make the point that the situation remains very serious and that too many jerks are thinking solely about themselves and not for their community?

Are they 'weapons' to make the point that our current leadership is abysmal, encouraging the opposite of what our public health experts advise?

Sure.

And why is that?
Obviously because there's really only one way that we as citizens can change the trajectory of the leadership of the country and that's immediately imminent.

Given the site title, including the nonsense of "Chinese", expect more of the same.

We may not change any minds on here, but we do get to vent a bit (as you just did), and some of us actually learn things that we find useful whether in our conversations with family and friends or to our own decision making.

That actually was a CDC Report.

Then they released a statement that they never said wearing a mask benefited the wearer. FACTS

85% (not .85% or .085) of people that wear a mask, get Coronavirus. They should start dropping like flies soon!

Quite reasonable actually. CDC's Redfield has been touting data showing that small family gatherings is one of the drivers of the current uptick.

Our family is already discussing this. Since up until now, we have been doing all of our family gatherings outside, which is 20X safer than gathering indoors.

Kid away at college (sadly) is going to stay at school to minimize possible kerfuffles that would affect end-of-semester finals.

For the rest of us, we are thinking of having everyone get a test within a couple days before TG. Not a guarantee of safety of course (see, for example, White House) couldn't hurt. Also going to keep the crowd a bit smaller and put extra leaves in the table. If the weather isn't too bad, we might try to eat outside with some patio/space heaters.

I still think it is OK for us to go to see a movie in an SD-ed theater, but others disagree on that.

P.S. Wonder if there will be any football on TG weekend. With the SEC breaking out, you wonder if the B10 and Pac12 will actually make it to their start date.

The use of masks from early on was to stop the spread of virun, not as a protective measure for the wearer. Much like masks worn in the operating room.

redfield also testified before congress that his mask gives him a greater guarantee than a vaccine to protect him from the virus. so obviously, tread softly on what he says. the vaccine will be at least 50%, that is if it works and trump doesn't muscle a 14% vaccine.

go with outside/space heaters... if can't do, go old school and open all the windows for cross ventilation.
they just opened a huge drive-in down the road from me. is this a thing? gonna check it out and a viable alternative if they're doing this all over the place.
take temps (including several days before), make sure everybody knows the coughing/sneezing/wiping nose protocol. and dammit, wash your hands! kitchen's the major vector. plenty of sanitizer. why is no one on the hand washing? it's like a throw in and only if you're making a list. masks get all the pub. i literally never see anyone pulling out the sanitizer. might start a movement.
