LIU and Iona had a spike this week. Apparently a large party event hit the lacrosse programs pretty hard. I'm hearing about 30 or so lax players from both programs tested positive.

FWIW: at CU Boulder, over 1,500 students have tested positive since they came back two months ago. Since they don’t catch more than 1/8 who’ve actually “caught”’the virus, it’s safe to say at least 10,000 kids have caught it so far. None have been hospitalized. With respect to non-students: during that same time, a total of ONE person in all of Boulder County has died from C19. And “case” metrics amongst non-students have stated flat.socalref wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:14 am LIU and Iona had a spike this week. Re: Is a 2021 season going to happen?
I am hoping we can figure out how to have a safe and competitive 2021 lacrosse season. Many schools have done an excellent job of getting students back to campus while keeping them safe. We have learned a lot over the last 9 months with hospitalizations down drastically and recovery periods reduced. Surveillance testing seems to have proven that we can detect and isolate cases and those exposed quickly resulting in significantly reduce transmission rates by infected students. We can learn from professional sports on how our teams can travel safely.
It will likely be a year since the first COVID Case’s were detected in the US at what would be the normal start of the 2021 season. While I believe the correct decisions were made in the spring of 2020, I think we have made significant progress over the last 9 months and will continue to improve and we have to figure out how to safely engage in normal activities. There is no such thing as risk free, but we need to determine the level of acceptable risk and our ability to build protocols that competing teams must adopt and report on so we can we get back to our normal and robust lives, especially for the younger generation.
IMO

So Towson just announced it will not play football this spring. CAA conference had decided to to play this spring instead of fall. This good or bad?
Re: Is a 2021 season going to happen?
I suspect this will be just the first of many similar announcements made by most schools for football (and other fall sports). It was always a completely foolish position to take that we will wait until things get better - whatever the heck that means.
I'd wager it is also pretty bad for lacrosse at least at the Towson level of funding and money backing the school.

Spring football followed by fall football is dumb anyway. Just wait until the Fall.
Re: Is a 2021 season going to happen?
let's be honest here - this virus has been politicized. No one is acting rationally around their decision making - it is all about making a political statement. Both those who choose to minimize risk and those who choose to be less cautious. Politics and virtue signalling.smoova wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 10:00 amPerhaps this is just a question of acceptable risk and "those brilliant people" put a higher value on the safety of their teachers, administrators, staff and high-risk students.GoBirds28 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:00 am No doubt the vast majority if any of the schools in these conferences will not be playing this come spring.
Ivy
NESCAC
Patriot
Centennial
What is so crazy is somehow there are quite a few "less academic" schools that are having regular practices and the entire school community on campus with minimal to no issues. I guess all those brilliant people running those Ivy, Patriot,NESCAC and Centennial schools, should be making some calls since they clearly can't figure it out

It isn’t that hard, stay away from people 6’+, wear a mask when it’s needed, relax and know that if by some chance you catch it, you have a 95% of surviving. Would it be a huge pain in the ass? Yup. But many with survive...so they can continue to complain about how screwed up this Country is.
Eventually, it’ll pass; until then, be careful and smart.
One of the main problems is that over the past 50 years, we’ve gotten REAL soft. Few know what real hardship is, what real sacrifice is. Why do you think China is just waiting around for us to continue to implode from all our liberal “feelings” about how unjust we are here...that being said, I’m willing to help the helpless, but not the clueless.

Why are you suddenly referencing lock downs? I certainly did not. As clearly noted in the article I linked, even the Swedes are not operating in a condition of business-as-usual. They must hate Trump.HooDat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 9:47 amdid you even read the article? I agree with you, this is unlikely to happen soon, too many difficulties.
Re: Is a 2021 season going to happen?
The vaccine is coming and this is how you end a pandemic. This is why polio is no longer a concern. Based on this article the general population can get it sometime in March which is probably when college lacrosse will actually start this year.

Well, if Yahoo news says it...
Unfortunately, 40% of the population says they will not take any vaccine. Another 40% will probably be hesitant to take it when it first comes out. 20% of the population getting vaccinated won't move the needle much.
Therapeutics are far more important, and progress here is happening very quickly.
I'm betting that spring sports won't happen, but maybe I'll be surprised. Football and basketball generate $$$, spring sports cost $$$. Economics dictate that cancelling is the easiest path for the schools.
