pretty confusing what the author means about worst on fatality. since may 10th, i guess?

I think the #'s could be argued a bit earlier than that as well, but, yes, the language used is real time failure. Current death rates, going back at least into May have been much worse than any other developed nation.

Are you saying that's not also the case this past month as well?

spain, cited in the article, has taken the baton for now. considering case lag, things may be messy there for a little while. several others, including uk and netherlands cited, might be coming up on the outside soon.
these countries may be more inclined to turn things again on "lockdowns" to stem the tide, where we don't seem to be inclined to take that path.

hopefully we do better than germany going forward, who my boys at ihme have deaths going up over 6 fold in the next 3 1/2 months, and that's with them recognizing only about 1/4 of the daily infections germany says they have nowadays.
