Or they could all be sick.

Trump is trying to get it under his control and out of everyone elses.

He is feeling good today. He isn't cured. The idea is obviously to put these videos out daily. The problem with the game plan is that unless he is extremely fortunate, there are going to be days fighting this where he is not going to feel so good and will not be able to put out a video. He could always while he is feeling good try to put together a bunch of videos and release them over time as if they had been recorded that day. If he is doing this it will be leaked and figured out.
It was good that he was able to do this. Glad he's feeling somewhat better.

More generally, it's amazing that these people think that they can actually get away with hiding whatever truth is. It's gonna come out.

They keep digging their hole on timeline. They're trying to clean up the "72 hours" recognizing that puts the diagnosis before Minnesota and before Bedminster, and are trying to tell us that he had a confirming test Thursday afternoon, but then refuse to say when he last had a negative test...if he'd had one Thursday AM, they sure as heck would say so. But they won't say that. So, was it Wednesday AM? Or had he not been tested at all for the last few days?

And we've now learned that Trump nor his guests didn't get tested by Cleveland Clinic before the debate (as well as refusing to wear masks) because they arrived 'too late'...What the heck

Does this follow “herd stupidity”?

You'd get herd immunity if Democrats weren't so obese and carry so many health problems. Even then, very few of you will die now of the 'Ro. Thank god Trump will be back on the campaign trail soon to save you whiney Nancy's from economic extinction.

Let's roll America!

Ah, the Flotsam Flotilla.

Careful not to swamp each other in the wake of your stupid drive. Seems to be a prevalent descriptor.

The most optimistic numbers of people infected is well under 10% nationally. Herd resistance is a vague term - you get to herd immunity the moment you reach a point in the population where there are enough immune people to reduce the R value (number of new infections per infected person) to below 1.

R is, without measures to reduce it (like masks and social distancing) estimated to be about 3, but may be higher if there is a fraction of the population partially resistant to the coronavirus. To get to immunity the best estimates are to get the resistant population to between 60% and 80% of the total population. The only SENSIBLE answer is effective vaccination. Getting it by exposure/becoming diseased (like PB keeps hinting about) would bring a MUCH larger loss of life, as he does not know what he is really talking about with respect to this disease.

Now if you are part way to immunity, then you get a reduction in R, but not necessarily below 1. In reality, given the measures that have been taken (masks and social distancing) there are areas of the country where R from that alone is near/below 1. If R is below 1, the infection just dies out.

CDC says somewhat over 7 million cases in US. Worldometer has it at 7.6 million. Latter number is well under 3% of the population. The hidden cases would have to be MUCH larger than anyone knows to have an infection rate at 10% or above nationwide.

Now is some areas of the US, the numbers are likely quite a bit higher. But not in the herd immunity range, but maybe 25% or so at the highest (NYC).

You have better numbers?

let's just say i've stopped coming here for something scientifically useful to read up on.

occasionally, there's something to be had.

most of the rest, at least to me, seems political and people don't seem to want to try understand what might be going on out there.

R0 is the average spread. It may or may be the best indicator. It appears the dispersion (or K) may play a significant factor in understanding the way tis thing spreads. I am just trying to get a handle on this but here is some information from the Atlantic:

thanks bart.
i disagreed with a couple things said, but much was informative. in hindsight, there is much that any country will and can look at and say... we shoulda done that. but info is out there to do now. who's doing what well that we could incorporate?

sadly, we and probably most countries aren't working together to do that.

wish you posted here more often. and the author looks like she knows her ish.

The Atlantic article is a great one - and one that emphasizes backward tracing to find superspreader events. Thanks, Bart.
