Jake Matthai, Evan Connell, and Will McBride all played a ton and were major contributors for that UNC championship team.

What are you even trying to argue? That MIAA players don't get on the field for championship-caliber teams? Have you ever heard of Ryan Conrad? Alex Rode? Jackson Morrill? Colin Heacock? Deemer Class?

Of course there is lots of good lacrosse being played in New England. Not sure what that has to do with the MIAA. Both places can and do regularly produce excellent college players.

Switching gears for a bit...

Ernie did a YouTube interview with Epstein, Williams, and DeSimone the other night. Not a whole lot worth mentioning—it was mostly a catch up about how they're dealing with the pandemic and they talked a bit about the infamous MSM game before the season being cut short. They did, however, seem genuinely excited about the energy from the new staff and in particular the offense they plan to run. No concrete details but Joey confirmed it's influenced by Canadian-style concepts. Cole seemed pumped to get to learn directly from Junior, whom I believe is now officially in Baltimore.

And more fodder for the Mabbett truthers: Cole said he probably has the fastest shot on the team. They also had very good things to say about Murphy and Degnon.

They like their teammates, they're excited to play lacrosse. revelatory stuff there.

Now let's see a return to play committee from the athletic department.

Sheesh, Matthai was a co-captain of that team!

In addition to Connell and McBride, and Stephen and Patrick Kelly, Brett Bedard played in every game, and the freshmen from the MIAA included Andy Matthews, Timmy Kelly, and Jack Halpert...all of whom contributed hugely in ensuing years, with Timmy Kelly playing in all 18 games as a freshman scoring 10G 8A from the midfield.

If RRR's lame point is that a team can win without MIAA players...DUH...but beyond that, what the heck?

You, as usual, only focus on what you want to focus on. There were two questions and ONE statement. Denver not having one MIAA player was the statement. I dont' recall the roster and which, or how many, MIAA high school grads were on the championship team for UNC . Hence why I asked. Same for this season ,when UNC was 7-0 and had a crazy good EMO, accept, that question was more rhetorical, as knowing some on the current team provided the answer. So, not ONE miaa kid , besides Kelly, was getting much playing time during the 2020 season.

Hey MDLAXFAN

can you explain how a league, like the MIAA, can be so bi polar? St. Mary's wins the title, and the very next year wins only one game. What gives? Why aren't there back to back champions in the MIAA? Before you answer, think why a similar pattern doesn't happen at Div. I NCAA championships.

(hint: does the MIAA uses winning percentage, or the idiotic RPI

Watching the Grimes HIGHlite.........does the MIAA teach their goalies positioning, at all? How about hitting? Every goal Grimes (and he does have a nice stroke) ,he remains upright. And mostly untouched by a lacrosse stick. That won't be happening in college.

No, you got called out for making a dumb point that wasn't supported by evidence, and now you're backtracking and pretending like you weren't actually saying what you were saying. You asked rhetorically about UNC's championship team—thinking it would support a very weak argument—but, as usual, you were unable to do even a modicum of research to substantiate the claim.

As far as this most recent UNC team goes—their top SSDM, Connor Maher, an honorable mention All-American, is a MIAA kid. Have you ever considered not being wrong about something?

I'm not sure what the 2015 Denver team not having any MIAA kids is supposed to prove? That Bill Tierney is a very good lacrosse coach? Last I checked that team didn't have many, if any, contributors from New England, either. A lot of them were from Canada. There are lots of good players from all over North America. That isn't new information.

RRR, I have zero desire to go down a rabbit hole with you about the MIAA.

Hop16 is correct, there are tons of top notch lacrosse players all across North America. You can absolutely win without MIAA players and I don't think there are any adult MIAA alums who would argue otherwise (maybe there's some juvenile that wants to fight with you about it, but...juvenile argument)

Grimes...hitting...MIAA...I dunno, the MIAA plays by D1 rules, what's the point?
That Garett Epple didn't come out of the MIAA?

Really? I had NO idea.......

Who won the Massachusettes Div. 1 championship in 2019? Did they repeat? How about New Hampshire publics? The ISL, while they were going to have it this year, (real playoffs, like the women ) who has won the ISL championship in the past? Lawrence Academy or BB&N?

Remember pounding Kingswood Oxford in HIGH school.........Founders league champions for decades.

Ty evah been to the Yankee Candle workshop and the snowing room .....just down the road from you know which school. It rhymes with Deerfield.

The point is obvious with those that can think. year after year, people tote out the inswag lacrosse top 100 with its infatuation with the MIAA.

If, as YOU just stated, there are top notch lacrosse players all across North America, why doesn't the top 100 reflect that?

:D

If it was actually a serious question, I'd say that with rare exceptions, the title most frequently is won by the team that happens to have the best senior class, and that tends to not run in long streaks. (there's an interesting phenomenon right now, though, that is leading to dominance by a particular program, but don't expect that to remain that way forever).

And we often see upsets down the stretch. Which will happen when we're talking about a whole bunch of good teams, chock a block with excellent players, who 'mature' as a team over the course of a season, go on runs, etc. The St. Mary's example being one in which a dominant FOGO and a strong accompanying class got on a heck of a roll, having backed into the tournament. Big senior class then graduated, next bunch did not gel the same way.

The 2011 run by Gilman culminating in a dominating win over CHC in the Final was another such unlikely winner, albeit Gilman was definitely deserving of top 4 status, and was such the following year as well...but down 6-3 with 1:27 left to play, and down net 2 men? (3 out to BL's 1)...no way they make it to the final. But they did.

Lots of such examples of late season runs...

I have zero comprehension on what RRR is alluding to re RPI etc...non-factor in MIAA.

But why are we discussing this on a Hopkins thread???

ok, so you're just trying to pick fights.
Not actually providing a coherent opinion relevant to this thread.

Have we not long established that IL opinions are close to worthless beyond maybe #15?
And who really cares about any of that?

The weird thing, at least to me, is why any adults get so bound up in knots about a high school league that is certainly very strong, with lots of well balanced teams, but has no crazy notions that there aren't tons of great players and teams from all over...

And this is the Hopkins thread...want to argue about this, go to a high school thread and rant...

It probably stems from my speculation that the Jays loading up on MIAA talent is over. Now I will agree these are generalizations but there is a perception that the Maryland kids we have got while skilled are soft, entitled and many have felt they accomplished something just by putting on the jersey. When was the last time a MIAA recruit not named Brown lived up to or exceeded expectations with the Jays?
