You guys realize that you all do the same thing PB does, right? There's just more of you to drown him out. YOu just direct your nonsense at him and Trump.

Every time someone here uses hyperbole and calls Trump a fascist or compares him to Hitler, you are doing a disservice to history, reality, and the people really living under fascist rule. It's hyperbole reality. But you're totally excited to live in your exaggeration echochamber spouting the same garbage.

Kram,
We of course have a couple of posters who go too far in the hyperbole from time to time, and I agree that it's important to check that impulse, but speaking solely for myself, describing Trump and Barr and cohort as moving the US to the precipice of authoritarianism, whether that's fascist or some other form, I believe is accurate. And important to face front on.

The path to authoritarianism has frequently, throughout history, not been sudden, rather it has been a course of incremental steps in which the barriers to such become so weakened as to become ineffectual. I am not alone as seeing those same steps occurring today, indeed at an alarmingly increased pace.

Our institutions, including our cherished constitutional form of government, the rule of law not men, the system of checks and balances, are being eroded by those who seek personal power at any cost.

The only way our system survives such an assault is for the people to resist, in time.

Hopefully, that will mean simply winning at the ballot box in November.

You plan to protest in DC if Trump wins. Your embrace of our 'cherished constitutional form of government' seems to come to an abrupt halt when it comes to TDS.

Gee, is protesting now unconstitutional?

I realize that AG Barr is now threatening to charge protestors with sedition...but gosh, nothing to worry about re authoritarianism, right?

Protesters or rioters?

There is a big difference between congregating and waving signs and throwing bottles of urine, spitting on cops, and lighting public buildings on fire.

You can protest, sure, just don't throw Molotov cocktails at peaceful diners trying to enjoy their meals that night, the normal Americans wholly undisturbed by who wins.

Well, you and I certainly would agree that there are stark differences, but AG Barr said "protestors". Did he mean "rioters" and just misspeak...or was he, as usual, quite careful in his language if not his legal basis?

But let's also understand that the Attorney General of the friggin USA used the legal term "sedition"...is spitting on a policeman punishable by 20 years, is it actually an attempted overthrow of the government???

bottle of urine is gross, might constitute an assault...but sedition?

Even lighting a building on fire, public or not, would be arson not sedition...now, if you've organized an actual armed coup and take actions to do more than talk about overthrowing the government, then maybe we're getting there.

Rioters, certainly of the sort that we've seen associated with the anger at police violence, are not actually committing sedition. They're guilty, often, of serious crimes as well as less serious ones, but sedition is not what they're guilty of doing. Punish them for the crimes committed, don't make sh-t up like a tinpot dictator would.

It's not as if this could never cross over into an actual organized attempt to overthrow the government by force, but it hasn't come remotely close to doing so...at least not anything associated with the BLM protests this past year.

You can protest, sure, just don't throw Molotov cocktails at peaceful diners trying to enjoy their meals that night, the normal Americans wholly undisturbed by who wins.
Easy answer, no.

Usually there's zero question as to the legitimacy of the process, and that's what would bring me out if this goes down as it might with Trump claiming a victory that is not based in reality.

I did not protest 2016, though I certainly understood that many wished to have their voices heard, their displeasure expressed, by marching. The women, in particular, took that moment of outrage and turned it into a constructive effort within the system to then get more women elected in 2018...I'm all for that sort of response when folks just don't like the outcome.

Your claim about "normal Americans wholly undisturbed by who wins" is simply dumb at this point. There will be many Trump supporters who will be very upset if Biden wins, and I can assure you that there will be many Biden voters who will be if Trump claims victory while voting gets suppressed in key states.

Indeed likely millions more on the Biden side, as the actual majority of Americans who vote will do so for Biden. That doesn't mean he'll win the Electoral College though, and if this goes down that way twice in a row folks are indeed going to outraged at our supposed 'democracy' that awards the Presidency and the Senate not to who actually wins the most votes, but disproportionately favors less populated regions. Put aside the general populace count in states with any Electoral College representation, Americans in Puerto Rico, which constitutes more Americans than 4 red states combined get zero representation...
