Rangers blow yet another lead:

NYR just cannot do any checking so that their opponents remain fresh late into the game. Meanwhile they get pounded by their opponents tough checks and wear down as the game progresses. No surprise why they cannot maintain a lead.

MINNESOTA'S HOCKEY CAPITAL
From tiny Taconite to mighty Minneapolis, Minnesota is full of hockey towns. But what city should be named the capital of Minnesota hockey?
Longtime readers of Let’s Play Hockey will remember the annual not-quite-comprehensive list we provide of what it means to be a hockey fan in Minnesota. Atop that list is the following item: “You might be a hockey fan in Minnesota if … you get ticked off when you hear Detroit call itself ‘Hockeytown USA.’”
In the Dec. 10, 2007, edition of Sports Illustrated, Michael Farber dethroned the Motor City and handed over the mythical title to St. Paul. Detroit lost its designation as Hockeytown USA largely due to lackluster attendance at Red Wings games and waning interest in hockey in Michigan’s largest city.
St. Paul, Farber wrote, is hockey’s epicenter in the U.S., mainly because of the Minnesota Wild, a franchise that has gone out of its way to be respectful of the game, its fans and the countless hockey players in the state.
Farber’s conclusion was certainly greeted with pride here in the Twin Cities ...
A long list follows and, much to my surprise, the city of South St Paul is in a three way tie for # 37. Kaposia as this city was once known used to call itself Hockey Capitol, USA as it produced several pro stars as well as numerous collegians and juniors players. And when girls hockey was recognized as a varsity sport by the Minnesota State High School League, the Packers were state champs for several years. Sadly, SSP High School's puck fortunes have declined. This because the school, like so many schools in St Paul and Minneapolis now have so many South East Asia and East African immigrant kids who do not play puck. The powers that be keep those particular immigrants from racially integrating the suburban districts while insuring that European and Russian immigrants are directed to those suburbs thereby strengthening their hockey programs.
We'll see what the future holds ...

Agree...they have some serious talent on the ice...and more than a few holes as well...being last in the conference is unacceptable, i get it, but all this upheaval is making me dizzy...
Going to the Red Wings game tomorrow night...gonna give Gritty nigel's address...

I likely mentioned at one time or another that Lorne "Gump" Worsley was one of my puck heroes and loved the old stories such as how he would wolf down a six pack and about 2 dozens ciggies after a game before he left the locker room. Of course, he denied ever touching beer as he preferred VO. But he was quite a gourmet and shared his mom's recipe for pineapple squares which were his life long passion:
In the old days I used to lace mine with splashes of Puerto Rican rum which gave it much good character. Alas, I no longer use wheat flour or eggs and have become a teetotaler in my dotage. But mebbe some day I might make a gluten free version of the dish and dedicate it in memory of the ol' Gumper.

USA leads the newly qualified Kazakhstan 7-1 in the 3d period of their match tonight. Hopefully, this will stimulate greater growth for the sport in that country.
