it will be interesting to see what the reason ultimately is for countries at various places now coming in with very low case fatality rates. both the countries that have increasing cases (which may not be out of the woods, but low death rates have persisted) but also sweden. who knows how many infections they really have as they barely test anybody.
or maybe it's the vitamin d!!!

amazing that Ontario has such a low infection rate, considering that colleges will be open . right?
Are Ontario schools open for younger kids?
But recognize that the UK and Canada are on a different planet Covid-wise than where the USA is. Which is especially striking given how horrendous the UK was at first. 7 day average daily deaths:
USA 864
UK 7
Canada 4
Pretty much what we do NOT have now in the US.

Here's what really stands out to me.
It is true that different countries had different timing, demographics and policies about Covid.
But at this point, they all have it mostly figured out. The Nordics, the Euros, Japan, SK, Canada, UK, Australia, NZ. Including some (Spain, Italy, UK, Sweden) that got completely hammered in March/April.
The real question is how come we are basically the only first world country that is still doing lousy?
Unlike those other 1st world countries, the virus is still in the initial community spread phase in much of the interior, as it worked it's way south, then west & now finally north into the midwest. It has to do with our size, dispersal, decentralized govt structure & travel patterns. It is true that different countries had different timing, demographics and policies about Covid.

We have exhaustively discussed this - a early mistake that was intended to allow those who were in the medical area to have access to scarce masks. Rectified within a few weeks. They should have said use cloth face coverings while there is a shortage of N95s and surgical masks.runrussellrun wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 9:10 pmand out pandamic experts said, Do NOT wears masks.RedFromMI wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 7:38 amPolitical leaders who listen to the pandemic experts, and lead their population by example.runrussellrun wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 7:19 amand lets not concern ourselves with how they got on a different planet than us, if you really think that. We were too big, too dispersed & lacked the adequate public health infrastructure, test kits, lab capacity & ppe to do adequate contact tracing & isolation. We were playing catch up from the start.

Canada is more different than similar to the US in all the aspects I noted. Much less densely populated, fewer large urban centers, less dependent on public transportation, a national health care system in place.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 7:33 amUmmm how is Canada doing relative to us?old salt wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 12:03 amUnlike those other 1st world countries, the virus is still in the initial community spread phase in much of the interior, as it worked it's way south, then west & now finally north into the midwest. We have too many Petey's in America, led by a idiot, narcissist crook with a massive bully pulpit he's used to exhort millions of Petey's to resist public health measures other countries have adopted easily.

If one school in America had had a tiny spike, it would be front page on the NYT, and the peabrains here would blame the Orange Man.

That IS how the virus has spread. Trump’s lack of leadership, or choice of leadership style for those who think he’s lead at all, cannot be overlooked as a difference in how the US has addressed this pandemic compared to others.old salt wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 9:05 am...& for you, everything is about "Trump's leadership".
