Mildly interesting that if you are going to choose a Hopkins attackman for HM AA that you would not choose Marr
Statistics superior to Williams in every way - especially shot % and turnovers - the only real exception being penalty minutes
Marr did have the benefit of EMO to get some stats

Hopkins performance has been impressive - they lead Tufts (#2 in the rankings) by over 120 points in the standings. And most teams have been successful.
Men's and Women's hoops teams are 8-2 and 7-1 respectively. M & W soccer were 13-5-2 and 18-3 respectively. Women's volletball was 22-8. The football team's success has been documented
And while M&W swimming technically have losing records - all dual meets have been against what I would assume are DI teams and Men's Swimming has defeated Delaware and Bucknell
Finally, there is the colossus that is the women's cross country team - 5-0 in dual meets including laying waste to the University of Maryland 15-47. They went to the Boston College Beantown Invitational
as the only DIII team and finished 15th out of 24 teams only 6 points behind North Carolina.

Hopefully, the lacrosse teams can stand up - with fewer spring sports and Hopkins being fairly successful in track and field for DIII - and if the baseball team turns in a standard performance - a Directors Cup could be in the offing

I certainly understand that and preseason picks are meaningless - just fodder for discussion. Certainly true as well that for Hopkins to have any measure of success,
Williams has to have a monster year with a focus on improving his shot percentage and reducing turnovers. Just stating that given Marr is a senior captain, has improved every year and is the leading returning scorer
(and he gets a little bit of extra media notoriety because his dad coaches Albany) you might project his performance as being the one to get some AA recognition. If you want to watch Hopkins lacrosse in May they both have to have AA caliber seasons.

I bought the digital edition of the Faceoff Yearbook for $8—I recommend that option for those who don't want to pay the $20 or whatever it is for the magazine version. Not a whole lot in there that we didn't already know but here are a few Hopkins-related nuggets that are worth passing along:

- They ranked our attack unit #1 in the country. Marr, Williams, and some combination of Epstein and Smith is quite formidable
- Our "Defensive unit," which I think encompasses only close defense (there's another section for "specialists" which includes FOGO, goalie, LSM and SSDM), is ranked #3 in the country behind Duke and Yale. Probably a tad generous, but I think it reflects the experience we have returning down low: One senior (a first team AA), two juniors, a combined 5 years starting experience. 6 if you count Reinson as man-down guy
- Glaringly NOT ranked are midfield and specialists
- Ranked #2 in the conference behind Maryland
- Projected conference player of the year, Jared Bernhardt, was notably shut down by Pat Foley twice last year
- May have mentioned this on LP but apparently Forry lost a lot of weight and is noticeably quicker
- The staff was "happy" with improvements by Keogh and Baskin this fall who are likely to see time at midfield
- Hubler put on weight and looks stronger
- Sounds kind of like Pion is in line as #3 SSDM after transitioning to the position from LSM last year but that still seems unclear to me
- Rapine lost 15 pounds and is "more focused" this year according to Petro
- A handful of guys (Shure, Capobianco-Hogan, Kenneally, Gomez, etc.) are said to be in the mix for PT but I don't see how unless there's an injury
- They're excited about all the goalies but it seems like Darby's job to lose

This is encouraging, particularly to a diehard Bluejay. There is so much talent across the board and, as always, the uncertainty of some exceeding expectations and others underperforming. I hope for the best but, am prepared for disappointment. Best of luck to the Blue and Black!

Back in the 1950s I was a faithful in-the-stands regular at many of the Jays football games. Enjoyed it then and love it today. A fine coach and great man who knew how to encourage , lead and win !

Don't know the exact time for High Point scrimmage yet. I think the Jays start practice on the 14th.

LaxPower - one of the LaxPower originals passed away today. Bob Fortenbough who was known on LaxPower as Lax Fi, Jersey Joe, Jack of Hearts, Weems Creek Weenie and about 12 more. A great lax fan and friend to many of us.RIP.

I'm late to the news but wanted to add my condolences. Like many, I also had some enlightening PM conversations with Lax Fi over the years, and greatly appreciated all he did to make the old LP such a great place to hang out. Godspeed, Bob!

Margraff's name is next to and above quite a few impressive ones on this list and probably not many who did it all at the same school, with the admissions challenges and scandal free.

Beyond that between he and Petro that's about 110-120 student athletes they're entrusted in bringing into the school which is a huge huge number at a small place like Hopkins, and it's a responsibility he handled well. When I was applying alongside Bloomberg and Woodrow Wilson the name they touted as an alum was a guy named wes moore who was one of his players.

I've forgotten what the start date for practice is but I'm beyond ready to get this season going and to get excited about a new generation of kids. Disappointing that beyond college crosse, and IL's recruiting stuff there hasn't been much consistent offseason coverage of the sport, but I guess we get more live televised in season stuff now as a tradeoff.

Agree, 06, it has been a quiet off season, which may be a good thing. There is little to say other than the same old, same old. Can't believe the season is right around the corner.
