small rct for vitamin d. small, but results are pretty significant. blast furnacing vitamin d as a treatment. haven't looked very closely on patient cohorts (lot of icu in control group). the load they're talking about is more than significant. calcifediol treatment looks to be vit d on steroids.
several days ago, univ of chicago came out with a study that was widely pubbed:

vitamin d has actually been on a tear lately it seems. the blog below lists a number of data points, including a number of actual rct's. not fact checking it.

I was talking to an ophthalmologist last year about Vitamin D. He mentioned a lot of people in the northeast need it working inside and in the northeast where a good chunk of the year there isn’t a lot of sunlight. I have been taking it for about a year.wgdsr wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 3:53 pm https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 6020302764

We should be ashamed of ourselves. There is absolutely nothing dumber than a dumb American. I will never forget my buddy telling me this when we were seniors in high school when he was working at a auto parts store. What makes it all the more comical is that we believe we are inherently smarter just because we are Americans.seacoaster wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 8:35 pm Senegal, nailing the virus response:

Sweden has now gone nearly a week with no covid deaths, despite no lockdown and without closing schools or mandating masks.
American Democrats still think Covid is the Black Plague.

Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
Been discussed before troll boy.
They do wear masks in Sweden. They take social distancing very seriously. They closed upper schools.
And Swedes do what they are asked to do. So they’ve not had to do mandates.
Result: they have low cases and deaths currently. Our current death rate is 28X higher than Sweden’s. As do the other Nordic countries. As do France Italy Germany UK Canada Australia New Zealand SK Senegal and many other countries.
Because they have low spread, most have their schools open.
So we are pretty much alone in the first world in being unable to figure this out.
Say hi to the Democrat wife for me.

But because you and your fellow Republicans would rather either die or go bankrupt than say bad things about people with magic little R's by them? Our country continues to circle the drain.
Oh well. Vote Trump, because things have been just Super-Dooper in 2020, right?
Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
the nordic countries just aren't big on masks. go figure?!
it will be interesting to see what the reason ultimately is for countries at various places now coming in with very low case fatality rates. both the countries that have increasing cases (which may not be out of the woods, but low death rates have persisted) but also sweden. who knows how many infections they really have as they barely test anybody.

Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
Not true, but ok, let's pretend that Trump didn't blow $3trillion to get you your good economy.
A. Trump in charge in 2020. It's on him.
B. What's Trump going to do to stop the violence, 6ft.? He plan on listening to complaints from the peaceful protesters at some point?
Still going to pretend that we all don't remember that you blamed Obama for everything that happened around the world, are we?

Scholarly paper estimates around 250K cases of COVID-19 from Sturgis rally:
A quote from one of the authors on Twitter:New @SDSUCHEPS paper by Dhaval Dave @FriedsonAndrew @Drew_McNichols & Joe Sabia ("Contagion Externality of Super-spreader") finds Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was a local & nationwide spreader of COVID-19. Estimated public health cost: ~$12B
http://ftp.iza.org/dp13670.pdfWe estimate that over 250,000 of the reported cases between August 2 and September 2 are due to the Sturgis Rally. Roughly 19 percent of the national cases during this timeframe.

A group of economists drawing on cell phone data to track movements and Covid-19 case data estimate that the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota in August could be responsible for 250,000 new Covid-19 cases, a startling figure that provides an early assessment of the effects of the large outdoor gathering, though the figure has not yet been corroborated by epidemiologists or officials.RedFromMI wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 12:10 pm Scholarly paper estimates around 250K cases of COVID-19 from Sturgis rally:

Again, this is guesswork at best until it is actually corroborated with real empirical data. Yes it may not have been the best idea to hold this large of a gathering, but there is no way in hell just based off cell phone mobility that economists can make the assumption that 250 THOUSAND cases are DEFINITELY linked to this event. This is an extremely bold claim, under any circumstances. Rely on health officials, NOT Economists.
ALSO, this NPR article is dated 9/3/20. So in 5 days, it went from 260 Cases to 260,000? I am pretty sure this article is another example Ala the Myocarditis Penn State Article in which the initial claim is very clearly false...
