Thing is ... the United States needs MORE immigrants, not less. As our population ages, we need more young workers to continue growing the workforce and the economy. That’s not going to happen with our anemic birth rate. We need young families immigrating in and becoming citizens.

If you want to see what happens when a country has an aging population but also a xenophobic, restrictive immigration policy, take a look at Japan. The population is shrinking, and entire towns are emptying. Because of the population shrinkage, Japan has struggled with stagnant economic growth for over two decades.

Immigrants represent America’s future ... as they always have. We should be welcoming them, not treating them like lepers.
