Who cares about the quality of education either. That’s not an important measure of a location, like if children have an opportunity in the future or not.
Of course he’s missing the point that it was his homeboy that brought up how liberal states and their governors were so much worse off than republican run states to which I was responding and instead made it about me.
The biggest lie is that he doesn’t attack citizens. I take personal affront as my sister is out to lunch even w a masters degree having lived in the Bay Area for 30yrs but is a great person. She can sometimes not realize she speaks with some condescension and clearly has a bubble view of things but also spends time feeding and sheltering homeless, cleaning up public parks and fighting for rights denied to others which makes her a far better person than the representation Pete has portrayed of himself as a selfish, insecure (projecting the opposite), silver spoon born and obtuse person who trashed all liberals. So yes, I’m coming right back in defense of good, if misguided people, like my sister and doing it directly and honestly unlike his attacks on people he knows nothing about or understands from his gilded, cake eating home.

Yes we generally are happy to be the capital of the south and better off than SC, FL and AL in almost everything. Funny thing about Alabama is people dead seriously like to say “at least we’re not mississppi” as if that’s some great defense of that state.
An isn’t 13th bottom quartile effectively (12.5 = 1/4 of 50)
I’m curious where Georgia is ‘better at everything’ versus Florida, but that’s not relevant, this is: Why are you and MD so consistently, obnoxiously pedantic about state comparisons, when it’s clear even to blind men you always mix up ‘price and value’? If you two could joke about it, that might be fun, but you’re dead serious, like most libs.
Every single person I know in the south is happy, which will come as a surprise to you two, but that (happiness) is the goal of life. Food, music, faith, pride, family, weather, freedom: let me know where your preferred narrative trumps that of the south.
Also, who tf cares if some hackneyed comp of wealth or education says New York is ‘better’ than Florida? No one I know who lives in Nyc doesn’t think it’s a tidal s-hole, leaving as soon as they can. Upstate NY I love, but everything around nyc is a total dump, the weather sucks, the politicians are awful, the taxes insane, and the women, let’s just say many look like teamsters.
Such total douchenozzlrey. By the way, both Alabama and Mississippi are awesome states to live in.

Why do lefties assume they know anything let alone everything about someone they’ve never met? Honestly S.C., I really don’t care enough about what you write to address it at all, but just a quick heads up: what you think you know of me couldn’t be further from reality. And don’t try the ‘he’s the only guy I say this about bs’; if you do it once, it’s who you are, no need to weasel away from the mirror.

Whatever you say. I stopped believing anything you wrote a while back. It’s just noise and a shame because before you showed up I was learning some things around here from thoughtful exchanges by simply reading two opposing perspectives. That’s gone now, you win.

I am a rank amateur when it comes to finances. My 2 favorite financial endeavors are still poker and the casino. They may not be wise from a financial standpoint but I have traditionally done pretty well and at least I have fun whether I win or lose.

Petey,
You've told us quite a lot about yourself, and even more so have told us what you think and how you think. You've made it personal.
That you're getting blowback from a couple of posters who have decided not to have the restraint of some others (who are similarly fed up and disgusted by much of what you post) is quite predictable.
Most of us on here actually do want to listen and consider the views of others with whom we often disagree. But the constant trolling nonsense gets seriously old from you and a couple of others.

Before the Covid shutdown there were a lot of people whose financial planning ran through their local Casino. There are 7 casinos within a 2 hour drive of my home. They are ( or were) busy as can be 7 nights a week. I don't recommend gambling as a wise financial move. It is a hell of a lot more fun than watching your 401K and your stocks everyday.

"Trump apologists say that before covid-19, all was well. “All” means only economic metrics: An American is supposedly homo economicus, interested only in consumption, to the exclusion of civic culture. And never mind a pre-pandemic $1 trillion deficit — at full employment.
Such apologists insist that Democratic administrations jeopardize prosperity. So, these apologists are not merely projecting their one-dimensional selves onto their more well-rounded compatriots, they are ignoring 120 years of inconvenient data (as noted by Jeff Sommer in the New York Times): “Since 1900 the stock market has fared far better under Democratic presidents, with a 6.7 percent annualized return for the Dow Jones industrial average compared with just 3.5 percent under Republicans.”

Under Trump's Watch, America's National Debt Has Increased by $6.6 Trillion
Seeing as how the first three years were supposedly the "best economy in history", you think we could have erased some of the debt to help save up just in case we have an emergency where we need to spend a lot. Hopefully that won't happen.
The debt increased by about $8.5T under 8 years of the Obama administration, and $5.8T under 8 years of the W Bush administration. A few trillion of Bush and Obama's debt is from stimulus spending due to the great recession.

A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Question is, can the Dems successfully accept the opportunity and sweep the GOP out of power for a generation? The Orange Cheato bumps up the chances of this happening EVERY. STINKIN'. DAY. lately...

If history is any guide, the pendulum is going to swing hard (if not in the first couple of years, thereafter) and there will be an opening for a return of competition in due course.dislaxxic wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 9:16 amOh, Donald Trump has delivered the Dems "dream state" opportunity alright...he has single handedly exacerbated a pandemic, crashing the economy in the process.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 8:59 amDems are close to their dream state of eating rats and dogs for lunch

While it's hard to imagine the next set of politicians in power exhibiting the same sorts of epic incompetence and corruption as the Trumpist GOP, it's likely that, with some time, there will be dissatisfaction again. There will be mistakes and there will be corruption.
But yeah, the GOP is in great danger of losing a generation if it remains committed to a white, older, less educated set of voters and ideological messages designed to attract them. Huge demographic mistake.
Trumpism and all it entails need to be rejected wholesale if the GOP is to successfully reemerge as a credible, ideological competitor.
I'm not currently sanguine about how fast the GOP can clean house given the current trajectory, but it's the only path back to long term relevance IMO.
