Black patriots march on treasonous Confederate monuments grounds:
Suddenly the police lose all interest in tear gassing protesters.
Makes you wonder why the police didn’t show when everyone showed up with a gun.
Funny how police left them alone too.
This is what we need in the USA. Fully armed patriots with a strong show of force. That will stop the government and the right wing traitors from staging riots and troubles.

Sorry Doc, but I remain unconvinced after reading your last few posts. What you have presented is not evidence, it is conjecture, and hyperbole in part in the articles you attached. We are not the first to have this discussion. This has been going on for a few years now, long before BLM and wokeness became things. Historians have debated this. I am sensitive to the situation, but I do not see that we should assume slave holders are immediately guilty of other "crimes" and should have to prove their innocence. Rape, it may be reasonable conjecture, but there are a great many things in life that are reasonable conjecture that are not true! The fact of the matter is there is insufficient evidence for either of us to 100% prove either case. You would have a stronger case if this was a one time thing, that had no history but it was not, it was a decades long relationship where Jefferson very much behaved as a husband and Sally a wife. There is zero evidence that Jefferson was unfaithful to Sally, where it would have been so easy for him to have been. You also have the fact that Sally and Jefferson very much had a relationship prior to Paris. She was the half sister of his dead wife, who she is said to have resembled. She was seen around the house on occasion. There is no evidence that they were close in these years, but what evidence would there be of a young girl's flirtation with a significantly older man in this period? At some point there is the male - female dynamic regardless of station in life. There is no evidence that it began with a rape. Perhaps creepy if initiated by Jefferson, but what if it was initiated by Sally? A young girl crush, unrequited love that blossomed. What if it was initiated by Sally in hopes of gaining advantage? We just don't know, and likely never will. All of this is possible (including rape). It is clear, whatever it was, it was more than simple rape.

JHU -- Doc is off (as explained below) by using the term rape. But you are much further off the mark here. The facts:Perhaps creepy if initiated by Jefferson, but what if it was initiated by Sally? A young girl crush, unrequited love that blossomed. What if it was initiated by Sally in hopes of gaining advantage? We just don't know, and likely never will.
1. Sally was 15 when impregnated by 44 year old TJ.
2. TJ owned Sally.
3. As livestock, TJ was free to buy Sally, sell Sally, kill Sally or command Sally to perform any task -- including having sex with him.
4. As livestock, the concept of Sally's consent simply did not exist. TJ could fork her any time he wanted -- TJ knew that and so did Sally.
5. Sally knew #4 because her own mother had been the concubine of her slave master (Sally's father). Sally saw that her upbringing had been somewhat improved given that her mother had gone into sex work as opposed to working in the fields.
6. Due to #4, Doc's invocation of rape is, as a legal matter, n/a. Under the law, TJ could no more rape Sally than he could one of his sheep.
Knowing all this, there is evidence that Sally exercised some amount of agency in her relationship with TJ. Given her own parentage and upbringing, she appears to have known that she only had a few lousy cards to play. And she played them the best she could. An enslaved member of the king's harem is probably wise to please the king as much as possible in order to make her circumstances the best as possible. Slave owners forking their female slaves on demand was systematic, entrenched and entirely legal.
So the idea of a "young girl crush" is absurd. Instead, think OfFred in the dystopian Handsmaid's Tale. Think young girl who has been human trafficked into involuntary sex work. Which girl then shows some enterprise in turning those lemons into weak lemonade. And Sally's mother looks like a veteran sex worker turned pimp/madame recruiting three of her daughters into the profession.
TJ probably developed some positive feelings for his hostage prostitute and there's no evidence he ever beat or forced himself on her. Given the overall situation, he didn't need to do those things to take what he wanted. Sally was smart enough to know that resisting was a losing play.
Given that both parties knew no consent was required, the idea of rape as a legal matter just does not work. So I'd call this extreme coercion and sexual harassment -- times 10,000.
FWIW, here's what Monticello says on the subject:
Like countless enslaved women, Sally Hemings bore children fathered by her owner. Female slaves had no legal right to refuse unwanted sexual advances. Sally Hemings was the child of an enslaved woman and her owner, as were five of her siblings. At least two of her sisters bore children fathered by white men.
Unlike countless enslaved women, Sally Hemings was able to negotiate with her owner. In Paris, where she was free, the 16-year-old agreed to return to enslavement at Monticello in exchange for “extraordinary privileges” for herself and freedom for her unborn children.
What was the nature of the connection between Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson? “Certainly a relationship between a master and his slave is one that’s incredibly unbalanced in terms of power. I have no idea what kind of affection or love was involved. But he made a promise that he would free her children when they turned 21. And he did so.”
When it comes to the specific dynamic between Jefferson and Hemings, descendants and historians have a range of opinions. Some believe that Hemings had more agency than might be imagined. Others consider any connection of this type a form of assault or rape. And there are many opinions in between. The reality is, we just don’t know.
Boycott stupid. If you ignore the gator troll, eventually he'll just go back under his bridge.

Justice Department Finds Massachusetts Police Department Used Excessive Force
A two-year investigation found that narcotics officers in Springfield faced no accountability for violating citizens rights
By Sadie Gurman
July 8, 2020 11:58 pm ET
Officers in the narcotics section of the Springfield, Mass., Police Department routinely violate the constitutional rights of citizens by using excessive force without accountability, the Justice Department said Wednesday in announcing the findings of an investigation into the police department’s practices.
Narcotics officers “repeatedly punch individuals in the face unnecessarily, in part because they escalate encounters with civilians too quickly, and resort to unreasonable takedown maneuvers that, like head strikes, could reasonably be expected to cause head injuries,” officials from the Justice Department’s civil rights investigation wrote in a report of their two-year probe.
Justice Department officials found chronic problems with use of force, poor record keeping and repeated failures to impose discipline for officer misconduct, Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling said in a statement.
The report notes that city officials cooperated with the probe, have already implemented some remedial measures and have hired an outside consulting firm to help resolve the problems. A police department spokesman didn’t immediately return calls for comment.
“In the coming weeks, we will seek to work with you toward developing an appropriate settlement to ensure that all necessary reforms are implemented efficiently and effectively,” Mr. Lelling and Eric Dreiband, head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, said in a letter to Mayor Domenic Sarno.
As part of the inquiry, known as a pattern-or-practice probe, Justice Department officials said they studied more than 114,000 documents detailing the department’s policies and procedures, internal reports, training manuals, video footage and investigative files. They also interviewed officers and police department command staff, city officials and community members as part of the expansive review, which found officers engaged in patterns of constitutional rights violations.
Attorney General William Barr’s Justice Department has scaled back wide-ranging civil-rights investigations into troubled local police departments.
Such wide-ranging civil rights investigations were a hallmark of the Obama administration’s efforts to overhaul troubled local police departments, but the Trump administration has significantly curtailed their use, focusing instead on providing police departments money and resources for fighting violent crime and other administration priorities.
Democrats and at least one powerful Republican, Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt, have called on Attorney General William Barr to conduct more pattern-or-practice probes in the wake of George Floyd’s killing in Minneapolis police custody in May, which prompted widespread protests and calls for a transformation of policing in America.
The inquiry into Springfield’s narcotics bureau, opened in April 2018 after several highly publicized controversies involving its officers, is the only pattern-or-practice investigation opened under the Trump administration. The Obama Justice Department, by comparison, launched more than 25 such probes, many of which ended in court-approved agreements giving the Justice Department oversight of the local agency.
Mr. Barr and other Republicans have expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the wide-ranging probes, saying federal scrutiny hurts police morale and can lead to spikes in crime when officers pull back.
But in announcing the findings of the Springfield probe, Mr. Barr said the Justice Department “is committed to supporting our law enforcement while holding departments accountable that violate this sacred public trust.”
Among other findings, the investigation attributed officers’ excessive force to deficiencies in policies and training. Narcotics officers are able to submit vague and misleading accounts or falsify reports to hide uses of force, an executive summary of the report said.
Whatever reports of force officers do file aren’t thoroughly reviewed by supervisors, and command staff rarely if ever refer to internal affairs investigators questionable uses of force that result in injuries, as they are required, the summary said.
Internal affairs investigations of public complaints of excessive force lack critical details needed to determine whether an allegation should be sustained, the report says, resulting in no sustained findings of excessive force against a narcotics officer in the last six years.
“Against this backdrop, Narcotics Bureau officers engage in uses of excessive force without accountability,” the report said.
It cited examples including a veteran narcotics bureau sergeant who was ultimately indicted for using excessive force during a 2016 arrest of two teens, one of whom the sergeant kicked in the head, spat on and told, “welcome to the white man’s world.”
The department said “there is reasonable cause to believe that officers use excessive force even more often than our investigation uncovered.”

Which was my point. I thought I made that clear. It was not rape in any legal sense, what it was we really don't know, or likely ever will know. If I understand your point, you do not allow for any feeling between the two on Sally's part. Of that I am less certain. I don't think there was anything run of the mill in her just as there was not in Jefferson. Have to agree to disagree.ggait wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:20 amJHU -- Doc is off (as explained below) by using the term rape. But you are much further off the mark here.

TLD apparently doesn't understand that many on the Left mean exactly that, abolish the police.
1. Support bad policing, without hesitation, when they kill citizens for no reason whatsoever
2. Look at our policing methods and systems, as we did in Colorado, and make changes to procedures and laws. This means allocating our tax dollars in more effective ways.
Boy. That's a tough call, Pete. Personally, I think you and your fellow five year olds should keep it up with your "waaaaah, they're trying to eliminate the police" FoxNation game. Swing voters are REALLY impressed when Republicans pretend to be so stupid that they don't think our government needs fixing when the police put their knees on citizens who have been found guilty of nothing....and murder them.
2020 has been one of the worst years our country has seen.
And yet YOU think is the best message is: "2020 has been the best year ever! Vote Incumbent for more of the same. Change is bad".
Good one, Pete. Good luck with this path in November.

If these were Police officers in a foreign country we would think they were out of control. Above the Law is just not how it should be. It’s a civilian police force. We should expect better.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:39 am Justice Department Finds Massachusetts Police Department Used Excessive Force
A two-year investigation found that narcotics officers in Springfield faced no accountability for violating citizens rights

Hey TLD, welcome to the white mans world. What's wrong with you wanting, like, honorable civil servants, particularly ones afforded the ability to use lethal force legally. Freaking socialist maniac!
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

This is what happens when you think little of the citizens being “policed”....I saw a guy killed the other in his driveway.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:22 pm Hey TLD, welcome to the white mans world.
