it's been beach week for a month for untold numbers of hs and college kids, not to mention summer season, up and down the coasts. and not just in fla.

these transient areas all have their own playbook, but i wouldn't be surprised if the majority of them are running policy of "don't boost my state's numbers". pretty sure that's not the optimal one for controlling the spread.
Interesting. Delaware - Rehobeth Beach, just 20 minutes N. of OC is testing anyone and everyone that comes in.

Hogan has been doing a good job relative to Corona throughout, but his policy with OC has been very friendly, and even surprising since phase 1, as far as allowing them to open back up. Most were surprised he opened the boardwalk as soon as he did.
Cooking the books to keep those tourist dollars flowing?
only 284 cases so far in worcester county so they're doing great!
most vacationers there are marylanders, but certainly not all. to the question re: public internet links... this is anecdotal info separately from 3 families i know.
2 own property there. they may have made more calls, or gone to delaware, etc. the mere fact that it happened at all, anywhere, is maybe a microcosm for where we are.
ok, just sounded weird to actually be a policy.

More fear porn.

After four months of travel bans, Europe will soon officially be open to visitors from at least 14 countries. Not the U.S. Nor Brazil and Russia. But Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea yes.

After much debate, particularly over criteria for inclusion, the final list of approved countries should be revealed early this week.

Darwinism isn’t about caring or not caring like you posit. It’s caring enough to respect your choices and not pretending that life is fair.

Over the years scholars have drawn parallels between Darwinism and Hitlerianism. No surprise that right wing Republicans applaud both.
And that, imo,is idiotic.
Explain ...
Darwinism is the evolution of species due to small changes in inherited characteristics due to natural selection. Where minor changes in genotyes lead to small incremental changes in phenotye that lead to increased reproductive success.

This has nothing to do with the views Hitler and his ilk suscribed to. Their theories were on the lines of social Darwinism which was used to support thir master race bull sczhit.

Darwinism used in the original context of these posts was incorrect, imo.
Pretty sure that was what Brooklyn meant as well...the bastardization of "Darwinism" into some sort of embrace of Aryan racial superiority, 'survival of the fittest', etc...'social Darwinism' as scientifically based and thus justified.

Unfortunately, PB has no clue what he's even saying with "Darwinism isn’t about caring or not caring like you posit. It’s caring enough to respect your choices and not pretending that life is fair."
What I meant is I respect people enough to let them make their own choices, for better or worse. Many will choose unwisely...meth, masks, Dr. Pepper, fried okra, being a Democrat, etc. And if they croak early because of their bad choices, that's Darwinism; humanity gets smarter every day because of Darwinism. I'm good with anyone making bad choices; I'm also good with them making good choices. Who am I to tell anyone what to do?
This is not darwinism.
survival of the fittest is NOT Darwinism ? So many net movers...
Who is moving the net? This is not biological fitness. Take the pipe out of the hands of the crack head and they are perfectly able to reproduce and extend their gene pool. They are equally able to reproduce under the current environmental conditions. These are the results of bad decisions. Is it survival of the fittest when a person makes a bad mistake driving and kills himself or just a bad decision?
There may be some genetic drift involved however.

This may or may not interest you but survival of the fittest was not even coined by Darwin. It was coined by philosopher/biologist Herbert Spencer. I do not think it appeared in the Origin of Species until the 4th or 5th edition.

As usual, I have no idea what your point is, or what you’re talking about. New Hampshire is partially open, taking baby steps, and alarmed by developments elsewhere.

Anecdotally speaking I don’t see many people who care about masks. Not from running up and down I81 for the last three months, not around Broome Co NY with the initial phased reopening in restaurants and certainly not in Georgia. Got to our cabin at Lake Oconee about an hour east of Atlanta, on the way to Augusta, in this old area with “real men” who look like they haven’t the slightest idea what the concept of athletic build is and making dad bods like like a term of gross understatement and I’ve seen not a single person rocking one and we’re inside a golf course community with plenty of people bumping around.

First time in my life after age 25 that I’d take the “pond” (in this case muddy lake) over the pool in my life. Look out Bill Murray I’m jumping in!
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

The Xenophobic Title of This Thread is an Embarrassment

Post by DocBarrister »

A poignant event 38 years ago:

On June 23, 1982, a Chinese-American engineer named Vincent Chin died in a Detroit hospital. Four nights earlier, Chin, 27, had been celebrating his bachelor party at a topless bar when two white autoworkers mistook him for being Japanese and accused him of stealing their jobs.

“It’s because of you motherf------ that we’re out of work,” they reportedly told him before bludgeoning his skull with a baseball bat. His last words, according to witnesses, were: “It’s not fair.”

Chin’s death galvanized the Asian diaspora on a scale not seen before or since. The lenient punishment his assailants received after pleading guilty to manslaughter — probation and a $3,000 fine, with no prison time — sparked protests across the country and united people from different ethnic groups. A generation of Asian Americans devoted their lives to public service, forming a host of new coalitions and civil rights organizations.

This year, Chin’s death has taken on renewed urgency as Asian American Pacific Islanders are again being scapegoated for an international crisis they have no control over: the coronavirus pandemic. Hate crimes have spiked while business at Asian restaurants has plummeted. And anti-Asian rhetoric has been endorsed at the highest level: At a Saturday rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, President Donald Trump referred to the coronavirus as the “Kung Flu.”

“We’re in another pandemic of hate,” said Renee Tajima-Peña, director of the Oscar-nominated documentary “Who Killed Vincent Chin?” and producer of the recent PBS film series “Asian Americans.” “It’s a wake-up call we’re seen as the 'other,' that 'model minority' is a wedge that helps to perpetuate systemic racism.”

OK so Asian people have been insulted by idiots. Thats bad we all agree. But 500,000 people globally have died from a Chinese virus.

Is their some sick moral equivalency in your head or is one worse than the other.

Actually, most deaths in Europe and the United States now appear to have resulted from a European mutated version of the virus.

Doc, did you help with the nursing home protocols for pandemic outbreaks? What did event 201 recommend? Wouldn't it make sense to lock down nursing home staffs, away from their families. To protect grandfolks? Did you write that policy?

It doesn't exist. Dr. Fauci, in 2005, and $7 billionn later , there IS a plan, a pandemic plan?

Did you also recommend that every single state provide lawsuit protection during this time? Which includes NON- v-19 screwups.....

YOU are to blame for this. You, your university, bloomberg, etc. Like Hopkins first man down against UNC, this spring........a man short. Or, THAT must have been tRumps fault too?

I give you permission to borrow this recommendation, from FATTY 420 event held recently.

In the event of a declared pandemic ALL workers having patient to patient contact in licensed nursing homes, facilities, etc. even hospices, MUST wear PPE's at all times.

Could it be any easier?

But, nope....YOU and your white collar welfare....and it IS white (no blacks invited to event 201 , typical racists like Hopkins, not shocking. ) us SHAYSIANS know who to blame. Oh, tRumps on the list, but he's not a real player in all of this. But, you know that. Because, you know everything. Except what to tell nursing homes what to do when a pandemic comes.
