I probably should have said that partisan politics should have nothing to do with it.
Yes, he turned down a job in the Trump Admin because he felt they were too focused on the political ramifications, not actually in combatting the disease thoroughly.
It's a big vote of 'no confidence' in how decisions are being made in this Republican Administration. We're seeing it across Defense, State, IC, public health...they're all saying the same thing, decisions are getting made based on what Trump thinks helps him politically not what is actually best for the country.

Of course, this is a 'novel' virus, so they are utilizing their expertise to learn as rapidly as they can the specific dynamics of it, while adjusting as fast as they can to what they learn. But their expertise is essential.

Of course there are people who have expertise in certain areas, and as you well know from past posts, I'm counting on them to solve this. My point was, the learning curve for this one is off the charts, not only for the scientists but for every person involved in govt, business, education, etc.

The percentage of positive tests in Maryland reached a one-day low of 4.38%, while the rolling seven-day average is at 5.05%, Hogan said in his statement.
Currently, 511 Marylanders are in hospitals, the fewest in 83 days, he added.

in the short term, their official case numbers should be ok. especially as downee the ocean they don't allow out-of-staters to be tested. even if they're holing up there for the summer and own property.
not sure that helps the eventual infection rate, but if you don't test for it, you don't have it. right?

As far as testing is concerned, I get the asymptomatic issues. But everyone I know that's gone to the DR/ER Patient First type of place with ANY type of regular cold/flu symptoms has been tested, in some cases multiple times. So I'd say the numbers have to be at least somewhat accurate as far as symptomatic people.
From a pure sociological POV, how should we be testing? What is the personal benefit? Wouldn't most people test if they were symptomatic? Why would you test if asymptomatic at this point? There is no proof or info about herd immunity or re-infection that would be beneficial in knowing, yet, that I am aware. No?
Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
ocean city is not allowing symptomatic out of state residents to be tested.
it's been beach week for a month for untold numbers of hs and college kids, not to mention summer season, up and down the coasts. and not just in fla.
these transient areas all have their own playbook, but i wouldn't be surprised if the majority of them are running policy of "don't boost my state's numbers". pretty sure that's not the optimal one for controlling the spread.

Darwinism isn’t about caring or not caring like you posit. It’s caring enough to respect your choices and not pretending that life is fair.
Over the years scholars have drawn parallels between Darwinism and Hitlerianism. No surprise that right wing Republicans applaud both.
This has nothing to do with the views Hitler and his ilk suscribed to. Their theories were on the lines of social Darwinism which was used to support thir master race bull sczhit.
Darwinism used in the original context of these posts was incorrect, imo.
Unfortunately, PB has no clue what he's even saying with "Darwinism isn’t about caring or not caring like you posit. It’s caring enough to respect your choices and not pretending that life is fair."

Not doubting you, but I hadn't seen that one. Certainly doesn't sound rational, unless to suppress the #, but even then, hard time believing they'd actually do that with a symptomatic case. Are they rationing testing in general to in-state? Not enough tests?
Asymptomatic cases I can see as being in no rush to test, though I think the answer there for Kram is that we need to test asymptomatic when contact tracing and we likely need to test a sample of asymptomatic just to know whether it's spreading and we need to be concerned...and react earlier than otherwise.

Hogan has been doing a good job relative to Corona throughout, but his policy with OC has been very friendly, and even surprising since phase 1, as far as allowing them to open back up. Most were surprised he opened the boardwalk as soon as he did.

Anyone have stats on the economics/demographic of V-19 ?
For example, how many of the nursing homes deaths were on the tax payers dole? On medicare? You know, the poor.
Who is the richest person, under the age of 60, that has died from Covid? Any members of the giving pledge, even test positive? Who welcomed and embraced a felon/Milken???

As a homeowner there, Delaware was quite stringent for a while. Of course most of that stemmed from having some absurdly low number of ICU beds and pretty mediocre to poor medical facilities.
Beebe Clinics are not set up to handle much beyond some stitches or a common broken bone.
The quarantine for out of state visitors was legit. Troopers would follow out of state license plates to make sure they were not visiting commercial establishments. Beaches shut down until just recently.
