Given the task at hand -- creating a pull loop at a convenient height, while neatly stowing the excess rope where it won't snag or foul -- is that an appropriate use of that knot ? Shall such a knot never be used for any task ?

Hopefully the race track employee or race crew member who originally fashioned that knot, many months ago, will be identified.
Then he can be appropriately shamed, doxed, & thoroughly investigated, including his HS yearbook.

That said, a German soldier, particularly an infantry grunt, would speak proudly of his courage and accomplishments on the battlefield. Those soldiers lived through hell, as they say, and fought the Americans (and everyone else) valiantly. A certain amount of pride, and family pride, comes with that, wrong side or not.
Have said it before, I wouldn't trade going back to 25 from where I am now for all the titts in Tahiti. All I can say is, good luck with the future and the flag and national anthem. This aint your gramma's Uncle Sam.
