To each their own. with this said, as a suggestion, i would not use the words "racist" and "jungle" in the same sentence. unintentionally, with no evil intent, or otherwise. Not because it will create some imagined hurt. because it will create a very real hurt for a large swath of people. even if you cannot see this.

IMO, that's double dip of relevance.

And a precedent has been set here when it comes to accurate but offensive thread titles:

We have had the Orange Duce title for 4 years. We were told how creative the thread title was because it was accurate by definition (both those in the dictionary and slang versions of "duce") despite it being offensive to some here...
Interesting you brought that thread name up, krame. I've always thought that Duce was a typo. I think Orange Deuce, as in #2, is equally if not more appropriate.

I could read ‘racist jungle’ a billion times and never think what the left says they see (which many don’t; most of their whining is performative art meant to virtue signal others that they’re not racist, when most haven’t even dealt with a black person let alone given one a break in life; they’re so phony it hurts).

Yeah, it's also from about 60 years ago
Agree that's awful and according to the Google machine- it was released over 80+ years ago - 1938
Just curious....does that make it any less AWFUL :?: :?: :?: Biden's comment was in 1977 - that's 43 years ago :!: :!: :!: :!:

Walt Disney was doing the same thing at the same time - Fantasia 1940

Check out any clips from Song of the South (1946) which was based on Uncler Remus stories penned by Joel Chandler Harris. James Baskett, a black actor earned an HONORARY Academy Award for his portrayal of Uncle Remus. Have to wonder why he wasn't eligible for a normal award for Best Supporting Actor or Best Actor.

Both films have subsequently been edited for re-release.

Walt Disney wasn't really the nice grandfatherly guy you saw on TV on Sunday nights either. He was a noted anti-semite and bigot and also was a virulent anti-communist/unionist going so far as to out his former employees as communists to the FBI and McCarthy Committee getting many of them black-listed. The fact that some of this bias ended up in his work creatively should come as no surprise if you are aware of this context about him. Truth be told,IMHO we'd be better off without the edits but with the context. Editing it all away does nothing for understanding and potential healing.

I just had to look up Springsteens lyrics for his song Jungleland. I just always interpreted them as typical Springsteen metaphors. Do those lyrics really mean that the Boss was making a racist statement? When you look at these things through the FLP prism often repeated and defined on this forum... Bruce Springsteen is a racist SOB. Systemic racism at its worst.

You know why most people get offended on a daily basis? Because they don't do their reading. They read just a headline or thread title. They guess at intent and take things completely out of context.

Context and intent is key. You can't have freedom- whether it's freedom of speech or freedom of something else, without having someone be offended, somewhere. I'm a firm believer in what you said- "to each their own."

Perhaps we should try that for freedom of speech.

We've come far enough in this country that we have overcome some major societal obstacles. Now we can choose any gender we want. We can marry any human we want legally and (mostly) free from criticism. How much has society changed? Often those choices are celebrated nightly on TV.

I think that's awesome. We've made the progress to minding our own business in those fields.

Now all we need to do is learn how to mind our own business and let people say whatever they want...without people being so publicly offended. Could you imagine that?!

How is that hurt/offended line/metric calculated?

Is it the same as defining art vs pornography? You'll "know it when you see it?"

Seeing that this is a lacrosse site, consider this Cherokee parable of the two wolves

"An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” "

For today's left, those two affects are interchangeable (hence the constant Democratic refrain here: 'I wish you were booted from this website'...)

Ok. I think again this goes down to having the full context and intent.
That's not to say good intentions don't have hurtful outcomes.
But are you more or less hurt by the title thread after I explained the context of it? I'd hope less.

Maybe the people who are saying this aren't taking a political posture but are genuinely disgusted (and occasionally hurt) by what you type.
