.@DukeMLAX attackman CJ Carpenter just entered the portal as a grad student, sources told @Inside_Lacrosse. The Durham native started 10 games with 22 appearances in the last two years, accounting for 29 goals & 13 assists. Could be a nice veteran addition to an offense for 2021.

and now Sowers and O’Neill,
odd man out for 2021.

And Phil Robertson. And Joe Robertson coming back. Even if O’Neill played midfield like I suspect he’d still be way down the totem pole at attack10stone5 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 1:26 pmDyson Williams,jrn19 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 1:20 pmDon’t think anyone went from starter to #6 attackmen I’m faster time than he did. Re: Transfer Portal
Insane.
But the NCAA and member conferences made their
decision, and now we all, alum, parents of athletes, general lax fans have to live with it.
Re: Transfer Portal
I sort of think the attack situation at Duke this year is unique and unlikely to repeat itself. You can't blame them for going after Sowers, just as virtually all of their peers in the ACC and Big Ten did. And you also can't be shocked that Sowers' old teammate, Robertson—whose brother was already on Duke—would want to play there too. (I guess you could argue Duke should have said "no thanks" to Robertson, but I think not accepting that transfer might create more problems than it would solve.) It was a strange confluence of events that hit one school, at one specific position, particularly hard. Carpenter only ever started on attack because of the injuries Duke had there. With Robertson coming back and O'Neill coming in, he probably wouldn't have started there next year anyway, even without Sowers or the other Robertson transferring in.
Re: Transfer Portal
What I saw of Carpenter he struck me as a savvy gamer who tended to come up with some big plays at big times (or atleast that was how I remember Duke's late season run in '19).
Re: Transfer Portal
They're also in the middle of an almost unheard of recruiting run - the #2 and #3 recruits in 2019 including the #2 attackmen; the #1 overall recruit and attackmen in 2020 ; and the #1 and #2 recruits in 2021 including the #1 midfielder. They have over 50% of the Top 3 recruits for 3 consecutive classes on their way. This all because of a freaking crazy run from one club team that plays where Danowski coached for basically a quarter of century. Obviously Duke has and will continue to recruit exceedingly well, but you're never going to see something like this run again, or at least for a long, long time. It's a tremendous confluence of events that isn't really repeatable.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 2:12 pm I sort of think the attack situation at Duke this year is unique and unlikely to repeat itself. Re: Transfer Portal
If Duke does not make at minimum the final four in the 2021-2024 seasons with the amount of talent they have coming in, along with the guys that is already on their roster, throw in the transfer's they got from this year, and add the extra blanket year the NCAA just gave due to COVID, that is a big underachievement IMO.jrn19 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 2:46 pmThey're also in the middle of an almost unheard of recruiting run - the #2 and #3 recruits in 2019 including the #2 attackmen; the #1 overall recruit and attackmen in 2020 ; and the #1 and #2 recruits in 2021 including the #1 midfielder. Sowers and O'Neill and company will terrify in 2021.
Dyson WIlliams, Brennan O'Neill and Andrew Mcadorey will run it in the years 2022-24.
They had glaring issues at faceoff and goalie for this year, along with not having a star attackman. Immediately they fixed that with the addition of sowers, the FO from holy cross, and Adler as the GK from St Joes. This is a true true superteam that will last a couple years

Re: Transfer Portal
They absolutely should win 1 title in the next few years and be in 2-4 of the Final Fours, but I don't quite think we'll see the 2-3+ championships some expect. The differences in talent when you get to the absolute upper echelon isn't gonna be *a lot*. They won't be that much more talented than Maryland or Virginia for example. They'll have the most talented roster but the real difference will be between them and the teams who are 7-10 or so. What they will have is such a high floor because with so much talent it'll be near impossible to not make QF's and then probably F4's, but Maryland, UVA, maybe UNC if they can get back to bringing in the top guys that they used too, Penn State as well if they can reload quickly after Ament...I don't think they'll be so far ahead of them that they're a shoe-in to win multiple titles in these next few years.houndace1 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 3:15 pmIf Duke does not make at minimum the final four in the 2021-2024 seasons with the amount of talent they have coming in, along with the guys that is already on their roster, throw in the transfer's they got from this year, and add the extra blanket year the NCAA just gave due to COVID, that is a big underachievement IMO.jrn19 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 2:46 pmThey're also in the middle of an almost unheard of recruiting run - the #2 and #3 recruits in 2019 including the #2 attackmen; the #1 overall recruit and attackmen in 2020 ; and the #1 and #2 recruits in 2021 including the #1 midfielder. Re: Transfer Portal
As to Duke, don't forget that the likely No. 1 in the class of 22 (Joey Spallina) is also a 91 kid. So get ready for the recruiting run to continue next year.

Re: Transfer Portal
No doubt Duke is recruiting better than anyone else at this juncture but it's still a team game. They have added a bunch of top level transfers but the question is whether the sum of all the parts is as good as the individual parts. They certainly will be amongst the favorites in the next few seasons but I wouldn't anoint them champions just yet. There are other teams who will be much much better as well who will also be contenders.

Re: Transfer Portal
Not making a prediction on Spallina but have heard that Syracuse is definitely a player for him and I believe he grew up a Cuse fan. Still Duke definitely will be involved and probably the odds on favorite.
