He’s very fortunate to have this volunteer position, given the situation he’s coming from. But the same swipe of a pen that brought him in could just as easily release him. You know it, and I know it.

That’s the “taint” I was talking about.

A volunteer position which not only is a pretty good stepping stone for the future but does provide indirect income through camps, etc.

I doubt that he was brought into a top tier Division 1 program without some vetting. Especially given the public nature of the events at Amherst.

I agree and wish him success.

Any insight on which teams will be most improved based upon returning and new players? What about who is losing the most?

Trin has solid young core + multiple D1 transfers. Will probably surprise a lot of people this year. Midd loses 7 starters, including 4 of top 5 scorers and 2 poles. Amherst has their whole situation + losing arguably one of the more talented classes in NESCAC history

Thought I was forgetting someone. I'd put them around 6-8. Losing a guy like Chlastawa would be tough for any team.

Isn’t Wesleyan losing a lot as well? Super goalie, face off and all 3 close d?

There's definitely a dropoff after Tufts and Williams, but Wesleyan is returning a lot of pieces on offense, plus Raba transferring in. D and goalie are definitely going to be areas of concern. Could realistically finish anywhere from 3-5 or even 6 if they really struggle.

Will be interesting to see how Wesleyan does. Hard to replace goalie and all defense but Jacoby is a beast. How about Trinity, can you elaborate on your comments? It does seem they have a lot coming back playing a lot younger kids last year. What specifically are they adding?

Returning 9 starters, including 4 who started as freshmen, which was starting goalie, top scorer, and two poles that were on Inside Lacrosse’s D3 All-Freshmen Team. Picked up Max Tetreault out of BU and David Demartino from Bryant off the transfer portal (freshmen and sophomore this year respectively). Maybe it will take another year to all come together, but something is definitely brewing in Hartford.

Completely agree on Trinity coming on over the next few years. Good young base, some potential impact transfers and the good timing to arrive a year after what would have been the strongest top 4 in NESCAC history. Trinity has always been a sleeping, if not giant, then at least unusually large human. While lax has, happily, spread well beyond its historic preppy/prep school roots, a huge number of great players continue to come out of those schools and towns. Even amongst the CAC, Trinity is as preppy as preppy gets and it does not have the same admissions barriers of Williams or Amherst or, to a lesser degree, Wesleyan or Midd. Granted, they have been sleeping so long they probably have decub ulcers and DVTs but they will at least be in the mix the next few years.

I'm convinced that the popped collar was invented at Trinity.

Just to put a pretty little bow on the allegedly ugly Amherst lacrosse team story, all four players who were involved in the "one night stand" debacle went through hearings and were allowed to graduate on time with zero punishment. So - after ALL OF THAT - no punishment is meted out to the four kids who were directly involved. What a complete joke, other than for a deposed coach with a tarnished reputation. Well done, Amherst, well done.

I know your last line was tongue-in-cheek, but it seems like (for better or worse) the Amherst administration played this exactly how they wanted: sent a message to the lacrosse team (and general athletic community) about who really runs the show at Amherst, replaced a coach who was rapidly gaining national recognition with one who is far more beholden to the admin, emphasized for the country where Amherst stands on racial issues and avoided potentially expensive and embarrassing litigation with individual students (ala Duke).

Does Mike Pressler come to mind, anyone?
