So missed on both sides of this debate is common understanding of what police REALLY do. As many defense lawyers will tell you- It's not the job of the cops to determine the guilt or innocence of people.

At the heart of the protests, the cop who killed Mr Lloyd wanted to be the judge and executioner of his guilt (and probably had a beef with him due to their employment history together).

But that is NOT their job. Their job is to protect the peace, themselves, and not endanger lives. Protect and serve the jurisdiction and ultimately citizens.

Someone can be arrested if an officer personally observed a crime or if the officer has probable cause to believe a person committed a crime. Or if the officer has an arrest warrant issued by a judge. But many of those determinations are based upon a cop's personal judgement or perspective. That's where the problem with bad comps comes in to play.

Considering context or degrees of crime are good common sense when actively policing, but really inconsequential in the arrest. It's the police's job to arrest based on limited information, and a judge's job to determine an outcome. It's part of the reason any defense lawyer will tell you to NEVER talk to police or give them more information than required/requested. Any information you give them very likely will be used against you, and again, a main part of their job is putting people into the system - arresting people and being done with it- letting a judge sort it out.

I have learned much more this morning about Antifa. It appears as if Antifa is in fact the paramilitary wing of the party known as Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), not really the Democratic Party.

The problem for many (including me) is the DSA is now aligned with the Democratic Party and many well-known DSA folks are active inside the Democratic Party: AOC and Rashida Talib, not to mention Bernie. John Conyers and Ron Dellums were active DSA.
