The cop didn't jump on the victim's back while he was face down on the ground. And even if he did, that probably wouldn't kill him. To die via traumatic asphyxia, you need to be in a car crash or have a piano or car dropped on you. The rib cage and breastbone are very strong -- basically body armor for your heart and lungs.

The final autopsy report will say positional asphyxia and hypoxia/asphyxia due to compression of the neck. Both of which are well known death causers in police brutality cases. FYI Doctor Brown, oxygen gets to the brain via blood, not air. Compressing the neck cuts off blood flow/oxygen to the brain. Can cause unconsciousness in as little as 15 seconds and death in 2 minutes or less. That (not strangulation) is what kills people when they suicide by hanging.

Pete, I do not consider myself to be thin skinned about much of anything. The fact that in many of our cities a bunch of bad people will cross the line from protesting to burning and mayhem breaks my heart. People should protest, people have a right to be angry, people have a right to express that anger in public for all the world to see. I am witnessing our nation unraveling in front of my eyes. This is such a pivotal moment in our nation right now. I hope most people start to realize it. If nothing changes then nothing changes. I hope that the 95% of good and decent cops start to hold the other 5% accountable for their behavior. Peer pressure is the only way to stop this nonsense. I wish to hell one of those officers had dragged that SOB off of George Floyd and put the cuffs on him right then and there. Donald Trump, a longtime white supremacist, has made racism acceptable in America. Never mind that Trump recently quoted a notorious racist Miami police chief from the 1960s and segregationist George Wallace in saying, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.” Never mind that he has vigorously pursued a xenophobic, racist immigration policy. Never mind he has called Mexicans “rapists” and mocked Asian Americans with his take on broken English. His true legacy is giving leave to Americans all over to express their own ugly, racist hatreds and bigotry.

We need not go far to see that. Here on Fanlax, we have seen members express racist tropes, retitle a thread with the xenophobic “Chinese CoronaVirus” header, and one member argue for the re-legalization of racial segregation (and no, please don’t be stupid enough to think that is just some trolling).

There are plenty of members here who have joined in the fight against such blatant racism, and I applaud that. But it is unimaginably disconcerting that blatant white supremacist racism could flourish here in the 21st century.

We (Fanlax and America more broadly) should be better than that, but we are not.

Our nation should be embarrassed to have a person like Donald Trump serving as president. His presidency, and the white supremacist racism it fosters, will leave an indelible stain on our nation’s history.
