I guess Payton Cormier will likely move into the lefty finisher role.

This is almost certainly not feasible. The timing of it seems wildly unrealistic but the biggest barrier might be the Nova administration. Nova has a pretty strong FCS team but, let's be honest, its FCS. Having explicitely said this was his plan, I cannot fathom the Nova administartion admitting him for just one semester knowing that he would then withdraw. If he was going to Clemson for one football semester and had the potential to be an impact player maybe they "rent" him for one season but not at an FCS school.
It seems that being on the UVA football team is more sensible.
There isn’t a spot for him on UVA’s team. He’s not gonna get a scholarship to play on UVA’s and most walk on spots go to specialists or some are preferred; guys who are good enough to be on it but they don’t have the room for. If he could play football at UVA I imagine he would but UVA isn’t just going to take him because he plays for the lacrosse team; so this isn’t really an option for him
I didn’t think he would get a football scholarship. Time will tell. If he really wants to play lacrosse at UVA, it seems like walking on to the football team is his only option. It’s UVA.... not The Ohio State University.....
There's 97 players on UVA's team. 85 of those dudes are on scholarship. That's 12 walk-on spots, most of which go to kickers/punters, etc. and then some are preferred walk-ons and then you get your handful of walk-ons. You don't just walk-on to the football team; there probably isn't a spot for Dox on the team. They're not gonna let him take a spot if they've already got the spots or have someone else they want on there more.
[/quote]

You may very well be right. I said if he wants to play lacrosse at UVA while also being on a football team, his best option would be UVA football. The Ohio State University has 112 spots. I was assuming UVA had more room. I hope it works out for Dox, either way.

Yes. But he stated he wanted to play lacrosse at UVA. If he really wants to play football at Villanova, then he could also play lacrosse. The idea of him playing football at Villanova and then coming back to UVA to play lacrosse doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense, but you never know.

Ty Xanders is reporting that Xander Dickson is in the transfer portal. Dickson was apparently injured this spring, but scored 19 points as a freshmen.

I guess Dickson leaving would open up a little scholarship money for Tiffany to use in the Sowers' chase or for some other transfer.

Jared Conners is entering a Master’s program & returning To Virginia in 2021. He along with Saustad would do a lot to Help cure Virginia’s inexperience on defense this season. Even Assuming Cormier moves from midfield to full time attack and Shellenberger is ready to contribute, Gordon, Kraus and Dickson are now gone from the attack unit. There may be room for another quality attack man just to have normal depth numbers

Conners returning sounds just like what UVa needed with Rock leaving the program this Spring. Bower and Matsui gained some experience this Spring. Kology back for a senior year and Saustad returning from injury should give UVa a strong group of long poles.

Perhaps Tiffany will be looking more for an invert midfielder if Cormier moves to attack, and play Shellenberger at midfield. Gordon and Kraus were going to be gone anyways, but replacing Dickson could be in the cards.

Hard to know where the incoming freshmen's level of play will be at - missing their senior seasons and perhaps some club ball this summer, but UVa brings in 3 highly ranked offensive recruits: Connell Kumar (M), Russell Maher(A) and Patrick McIntosh (A). Not to mention 2 more highly ranked long poles: Ben Wayer and Michael Prestipino.

It is interesting that UVa isn't mentioned in the Sowers pursuit.

Yes, I found that interesting as well but with Moore, Laviano and Cormier, that is still a pretty strong attack. There just isn't much depth if there are injuries. Who knows what the real truth is. They ranked Duke high as a transfer option but Duke already gave 1 attack man, O'Neill, a full scholarship and has a bunch of other highly sought recruits they will have to give something. I don't know, but assume some of these high level transfers will start a bidding war for grant money.

The attack of Moore, Laviano, and Cormier does look pretty strong. I guess Shellenberger backs up the 2 righties, and both McIntosh and Maher are lefties to back up Cormier. The midfield is more of a question mark, especially if Aitken doesn't return.

They’re in the running for him, but Duke and UNC seem a bit further ahead, particularly Duke. Wouldn’t be shocked if he ended up at UVA though

Your comment on the midfield is spot on, although there are some very talented young players there. There just isn't a returning AA anchor without Dox. If an AA caliber attack man were to transfer in, Cormier could stay at midfield so there is room. I like the potential of Conner, Bienkowski, Garno, Simmons, & Quinn. A midfield transfer would really need to bring a lot to the table to make any sense. Burlace is a nice get for the Terps. Why didn't he play more at Yale?

I guess if Aitken doesn't return, Tiffany might also be in the market for a proven scorer at midfield - perhaps a 5th year senior.

I haven't really read anything about why Burlace hadn't played at Yale.

Virginia is apparently not adding funds for spring senior scholarships:
https://www.starexponent.com/sports/uva ... d9b58.html
A school spokesman confirmed Tuesday that any seniors who opt to return for the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA will have to have their coaches work out scholarship funding from the team’s existing budget.

If the rumors are true, where does Charlie Bertrand fit in on this attack? From what I recall he is a lefty attackman. He is not transferring in for one year to not play. Any ideas?

What is Lars thinking? He's got one of the best attack units in the game and the #1 recruit from 2019 (Shellenberger) redshirting last year to get a shot this coming year. Really weird transfer, if true. Maybe Moore goes back to midfield and they run two lefties out on attack?

Positions matter less and less in lacrosse these days, but Moore’s staying at attack. He’s the most skilled and talented player on that offense. That guy’s gonna play attack. Also since Bertrand is a scorer first and not much of a passer, you’ll need someone like Moore down there, even if he’s a scorer first.

Shellenberger’s gonna have to get bumped down to midfield if he’s gonna see the field as a starter. He could play middie, but it’s still crazy that the #1 recruit in the country of HS, at attack, won’t see the field as an attackmen until his 3rd year at best.

Just because Bertrand is transferring in to play, doesn't necessarily mean he will play. He has to earn his spot against many talented players.

If Bertrand's ability gets him on the field, a likely move would be to keep Cormier at the midfield and let Bertrand play lefty attackman.

Doubt you move Moore from attack now. Seems more likely to me either Cormier or Bertrand play midfield.

Agree......Shellenberger can play midfield as well and did so on occasion When his high school team needed to get the ball back on offense. It wouldn’t shock me to see Shellenberger, with his speed and acceleration, playing on the same midfield line with Cormier. They both bring different skill sets to the table. Shellenberger is more than capable of initiating the offense from up top or anywhere on the field.
