I'm counting on science to solve the virus so long as politics doesn't get in the way.
In the meantime, people need to work and care for their families. Kids/teachers need to get back to school.
As stated before...no right answers, no easy choices. Our new reality is a balancing act.

Democrats will be for choking off the economy until the day after the election. On that special day, they will magically pivot 180 degrees and demand the economy re-open. Their prime interests are less about 330,000,000 persons' welfare and far more about political power. Everything is a means to an end. Don't believe anything anyone says otherwise. This is who they are. I might know what I'm saying since since I was in the front row there for many years. This is a disgraceful Party with disgraceful policies; the few good guys left are trying to stem a very powerful tide of anti-American ideation; it ain't easy.

Trump needs to push all levers now. Dems will continue to be flies in the ointment of the economy, regardless of facts.
Open up with a defined process, starting with schools for youngsters and working your way up to colleges. The Swedish way was always going to be the winner.

We are likely to get to a vaccine before that unless the death toll soars in subsequent waves. So I don't think the argument can really be correct.

Gets me to vote for Biden, first time I'll have ever voted for a Dem for President ever...4 decades of voting.
Of course, you also left off a variety of other messages Trump will be sending his base about why to vote for him, not the Dem...
There's always a first time. Frankly, the "me and Barack" this and "me and Barack" that doesn't really generate enthusiasm (IMO). And that track record together isn't that great. What else do ya got Joe?
No doubt Trump has a problematic habit of being overly braggadocious, and he does say some stupid things, but his economic, pro American message resonates with a lot of voters and more than likely "it's the economy, stupid" will be a big deciding factor come Nov.
Example of Trump getting in his own way -
Why not say "We are meeting the moment, and we are prevailing"? Doesn't that work better? In an attempt to be profound and emphatic, Trump's statement only invites the never-Trumpers and the TDS'ers to jump on his words. Nobody is ready to spike the ball but Trump seems to have misconstrued that apparently (to some).

Re: 2020 Elections - CoronaPause
Trumps is banking on the whole enchilada (Covid health, nation's economy, a new normal without excessive set backs from premature reopening, no seriously increasing social conflict, etc.) looking if not good, at least up by November 3. In true Trumpian fashion he will maintain that he (and perhaps in his mind he alone) has put us on the course to make this happen unless/until the evidence proves conclusively that this isn't the case. His faith in himself appears to be monolithic. Time will tell if it is justified. It appears that complications from this virus will continue for an indeterminate amount of time to present a formidable challenge to any leader's sense that they are dealing with it effectively

Re: 2020 Elections - CoronaPause
Are we sure there will be a November 3?? The Little Prince can't commit:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/12/us/p ... d=tw-share
"Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and a senior White House adviser, refused on Tuesday to rule out postponing the presidential election in November, a comment that fed directly into Democratic concerns that President Trump might use the coronavirus crisis to delay or delegitimize the contest and one that contradicted Mr. Trump himself.
“I’m not sure I can commit one way or the other, but right now that’s the plan,” Mr. Kushner told Time magazine in response to a question about whether the election could be postponed because of the pandemic.
The opinion of a White House staff member has no bearing on when the election is held. Even the president himself does not have the authority to unilaterally postpone Election Day, which by law takes place the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
But Mr. Kushner’s comment raised alarms both because of the expansive power Mr. Trump has conferred on members of his family who serve in his administration and because it played into the worst anxieties of Mr. Trump’s detractors — that the president would begin to question the validity of the election if he feared he was going to lose.
The presumptive Democratic nominee, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., gave voice to those concerns at a virtual fund-raiser last month. “Mark my words, I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow — come up with some rationale why it can’t be held,” he said.
Doubts about a smooth voting process in November have increased as states have canceled or postponed presidential primary elections to avoid the spread of the virus.
Mr. Kushner’s remarks also undercut the president’s own publicly stated position on the issue.
“The general election will happen on Nov. 3,” Mr. Trump said last month at a news conference when asked about Mr. Biden’s comment. But he also appeared to raise the specter of election fraud, noting that “I think a lot of people cheat with mail-in voting.” He added, “It should be, you go to a booth and you proudly display yourself.”
Despite his victory in 2016, Mr. Trump has consistently and without any evidence claimed that there was widespread voter fraud in the last presidential election. He even briefly formed a commission to examine it, but the group never found evidence and disbanded.
On Tuesday night, Mr. Kushner sought to clarify his earlier interview. “I have not been involved in, nor am I aware of, any discussions about trying to change the date of the presidential election,” he said. A White House official said Mr. Kushner was fully aware that the date was set by federal law.
Mr. Kushner’s hedge about the date of the election came as he has been bullish about the country reopening and returning to normal by July. “I think you’ll see by June that a lot of the country should be back to normal, and the hope is that by July the country’s really rocking again,” he said last month in an interview on “Fox & Friends.”
But his original remark on the election quickly drew fierce criticism from Trump critics.
“Kushner’s statement reveals amazing ignorance of the Constitution and law,” William Kristol, a conservative columnist and prominent “Never Trump” Republican, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “It reveals startling arrogance in taking for granted he gets to have some say about when the election is held. It also reveals an utter lack of understanding of his very subordinate role in our democracy.”

They cannot postpone the election without Congressional legislation which Is unlikely under any scenario. A COVID wave will likely result in large increases in mail balloting which will need to be dealt with on a state by state basis. IMHO there is no chance that there will not be an election in November.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:35 am Yes, that's the back-up plan to Nigel's description of the Trump playbook and calorie's description of the 'whole enchilada' strategy.

So last night there were two special election in California and Wisconsin. Dems yesterday were all bleating on about how a victory in both would portend a 'Democratic blue wave in November'. In the California district #25, the Republican was seen as a clear underdog. Trump came out strong for both candidates. Dems were giddy.
Oooops. Republicans won both elections (though you still can't count out Democratic voting fraud in California, so we may need to wait a week to see how many ballots the Democratic state apparatus could mail before midnight last night; generally Democratic voting fraud is only used when the election is very tight, and this one so far is not tight enough for the fraud to count much, still I never count Dems out)!! This is the first Democratic seat to switch to Republican in California since 1998. Stories on MSM news this morning: zero.
Moral of the day: don't go full communist. Americans are rejecting the Democratic desire to seize up the economy.

However, let's admit for a moment that this crew has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to defy the law, to re-define executive power, and to reach for extraordinary interpretations and powers...and litigate later.
Frankly, I'd be surprised if they aren't getting briefed on this, if only by outside 'friends'.

Sorry, that makes clear that the Wisconsin seat was expected R, but if close it could be a positive signal in the fall. The CA seat was taken for the first time by a Dem, Katie Hill, who resigned in scandal. Hill had won in the '18 blue wave, with some bona fides and appeal that crossed over. But the scandal scuttled that. The Dem candidate is indeed unpopular in that normally red district.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:11 amMDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:05 amPB, actually both were expected to go R, but anything close would be an issue.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 8:32 amKismet wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:46 amThey cannot postpone the election without Congressional legislation which Is unlikely under any scenario. IMHO there is no chance that there will not be an election in November.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:35 am Yes, that's the back-up plan to Nigel's description of the Trump playbook and calorie's description of the 'whole enchilada' strategy.
No COVID wave, Trump elected.
but..If there's a COVID wave in the fall, election gets postponed.
DOPUS is in trouble regardless of COVID wave or not unless there is a complete economic turnaround which also is not likely.
2020 election could be a repeat of 2008 with GOP losing Senate and WH as well as failing to recapture the House.

Uhhhh, "Toss up" according to 538:

Better yet, the headlines how Two Dem Victories would portend for a blue wave this Fall:

The people will reject the Democratic effort to stall the economy.
So, no, expectations were at best toss up in CA (though it was clear down the stretch that the GOP would retake it) and GOP win in Wisconsin, but possibility of making it competitive.
