Johns Hopkins 2021
Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
Seems to me that JHU is doing the right things. It's a big ship so it won't turn on a dime. But, based on what's been happening this past week plus, JHU is going to be steering in the right direction very soon. if you build it, the recruits will come...

Loyalty and a general stubbornness.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
I fully expected PM to hire a Hop alum for at least one of the assistant jobs.
His choice for OC will be interesting. For most of his time at Cornell, PM was actually the DC, switching to OC only in his last year as an assistant.

GREAT hire. Coach Koesterer is one of the finest young DCs around.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 10:55 am JHU Men's Lacrosse

BREAKING - Former Blue Jay @JLKoesterer named Johns Hopkins defensive coordinator

Only downside is that some lucky program is likely to steal him as a head coach within a few years.
Well done, Hopkins.

I met Jamison his freshman movein day thought he was understated, smart, reserved. If you were on the Petro is too mean to kids train, this guy at least on campus was a different human than that to interact with. I don't watch enough umbc/cornell lacrosse to know what differences he and milliman are going to bring to that end of the field or what players will fit best moving forward. Milliman said in the press conference he didn't think he'd get to the city that reads until july so good to have someone on the ground in charm city. I'm not of the belief his or millimans job is to placate the Petro-istas still upset about how that went down but it was notable for the first time today on social media I saw alums like chris boland praising the program. Big fella had to be proud one of his guys will on that sideline.
this tweet was great
Jamison L. Koesterer @JLKoesterer May 2 During my run on this beautiful day in MD there was an elderly lady on her front porch shaking out & hanging her American Flag. She looks up and says to me “Its for the Angles” as they thundered by overhead. I love this Country. Flag of United States
Anyone who's ever met kyle harrison knows you won't find a better advocate for the game or the school or the program. pure class.

Thanks and agree, TLD!Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 11:32 amThat is a good hire. Congratulations. I think it is beneficial to have someone on staff, with a reasonably new coach, that is attached to the program. Like I said, the ship was turning. Best of luck.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 10:56 am College Crosse@College_Crosse

Under Koesterer, UMBC's defense was ranked #1 in the country in 2018. They were #6 this year before the season ended. And he doesn't even have to move his stuff. Don't think Milliman could have done any better with this hire.

Nice article about PM and his career to this point—sounds like someone who has had to work for everything and takes nothing for granted. I think that can be a very positive quality in a head coach, especially one tasked with coming in and revitalizing a historic program. He seems to have the combination of ambition and humility you need in order to succeed in a tough environment. Koesterer may have been the obvious choice but I agree with the others who said it shows Milliman knows what his blind spot is and where he might need some help. A guy who claims to have all the answers most likely has none of them.

JK definitely a good hire and likely the more important one. We have d and f/o covered now. Maybe they can unearth some yet to be discovered talent. OC will still be interesting (Phipps, please God, Phipps), but I think we'll be OK no matter who it is.

Interesting note that he recruited Shawn Nadelen to play pick up games as a kid.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 6:33 pm Nice article about PM and his career to this point—sounds like someone who has had to work for everything and takes nothing for granted. Apparently he goes by Coach K now. I guess I’m going to have to get used to hearing that and not feeling a wave of contempt and disdain.WOMBAT, Mod Emeritus wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 6:40 pm Surprised no one has said his nickname yet: JAMO!

Coach JAMO or Coach J maybe. I can’t say K until the other one goes way away.

Jamison is a great hire. I would look to bring in an alum for volunteer like Tinney, and just hire the best OC I could find out there. I’m not sure it’s that important that the OC is an alum and I feel like there are better non-alum candidates out there.

Tinney would help with both the Culver and Calvert Hall pipelines—possibly the two best high school programs in the country. Not that that is the most important consideration when hiring a coach, but for the volunteer assistant, you could do much worse. That would be a nice asset to have—never mind the energy and passion he'd bring to huddles.FlyEaglesFly wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 7:35 pm Jamison is a great hire. Does anyone know how much of the Cornell offense was Milliman vs. Buczek? My understanding was that they worked closely together and both deserve some accolades for that explosive offense. The reason I ask is because if Milliman thinks he already has much of the offensive side of the ball covered himself, he may not even hire a "coordinator," but rather another assistant who just can help with that area (and other areas if need be) without officially getting the title. IF that's the case—it may not be, I have no idea—then my guess would be he goes after a younger guy instead of a longtime established presence who would want to install his own offense.
Phipps would be great but I don't see a compelling reason he'd leave Georgetown right now unless we could offer significantly more $$$.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
Fair point. Maybe that's why, but I'm still not worried about PM's offenses. At Cornell, they could always score. Had some significant issues on defense and on f/o (or else Cornell would have been a legit NC contender). Don't expect those issues to repeat with JK on board. So again, I think we'll be fine whoever the OC ends up being, even if Teat doesn't come along for next year.
