Asked during their press conference whether they were just pushing for a reopening to get their clinics on stronger financial footing, Erickson claimed reporters should check with emergency doctors who would back up their findings. Instead of supporting Erickson and Massihi, though, the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine denounced the pair in a rare joint statement..

The two groups accused Erickson and Massihi of favoring “their personal financial interests” over public health.

“These reckless and untested musings do not speak for medical societies and are inconsistent with current science and epidemiology regarding COVID-19,” the statement reads. “As owners of local urgent care clinics, it appears these two individuals are releasing biased, non-peer reviewed data to advance their personal financial interests without regard for the public’s health.

Erickson, Massihi, and Fox News didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Urgent care is the actual term more commonly used these days. The problem with their video is they are making claims that don't hold up because they are trying to extrapolate (go beyond the data they actually have) and predict things about the entire local area population that does not hold up to scrutiny.

If they tried to get a paper based on their measurements into a peer-reviewed journal, they would not be able to be published. In the times of an emergency, their claims hold out a false hope - and that is why the criticism. Does it rise to the level of shouting fire in a crowded theater? No. Is it potentially dangerous? (Like injecting disinfectant?) Maybe.

It is called PEER REVIEW and TRUTH IN ADVERTIZING depending on which environment they were trying to play in. These guys were trying to play in both. There are state and federal laws governing all of this.

On one hand he's still downplaying Covid and advocating premature re-opening ("Liberate!"). But this morning, he's giving Sweden the business for not locking down. Even though Fox News and the righties have been aggressively claiming that Sweden "got it right" as compared to other more hard line countries.

sweden is going to be very interesting the next several weeks. mostly for me bc (i am merely theorizing) but i'd imagine in our bid to "open up the economy", we may look a lot like them soon enough in the way we're going about things?
so if that's the case, their results seem to be pretty important. there are no doubt myriad differences between the countries, but still. an indicator. i really don't care about their different results to other nordic countries at this point, glad they've done well.

unless there is a blowout number tomorrow for sweden, their 7 day death count will be lower than each of the previous 2 weeks. and look a lot like 3 weeks ago. their hospitalizations may be down also. stuff still rolling in on that info, i'm sure... but one thing for sure is they're no longer climbing, at least right now.
is that a result of the population taking more countermeasures as the reality of death and infection has taken place? a better system for protecting the elderly? or... is some herd immunity slowing the pace? that's the big question, if in fact the numbers don't keep chugging along or go higher, but instead go lower. if it's the latter, the numbers might just go lower in a hurry. of course if they even keep chugging along and immunity isn't really working, their daily/weekly results maybe won't change much and may even get worse.

extrapolate that with the u.s.... on the weekend of april 10, it was brace for impact, rough week ahead, peaking... and now here we are 3 weeks later. univ of washington keeps moving out their predictions a couple days saying we'll have 500 deaths per day in a week plus, and then less after that. this entire last 2 weeks they've been saying that. are we still listening to these guys? it seems we are. maybe they'll be right eventually.

DNI believes virus 'was not manmade or genetically modified'

The office of the director of national intelligence has released an unusual statement saying officials do not believe coronavirus was manmade, echoing many health experts.

“The Intelligence Community also concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not manmade or genetically modified,” the statement reads.

The statement added, “The IC will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

Trump has reportedly asked intelligence officials to investigate whether coronavirus was created in a Chinese government laboratory, even though many public health experts have said they think the virus came about naturally.

Pretty quick statement given that it has not been long since Trump made his request.
