Fauci just did a presser wherein he claims remdesivir will become "Standard of Care" in the near future. No one asked any relevant medical questions, like what about the reported 25% liver damage issue.
PS - apparently they are going to move all placebo patients to the remdesivir immediately in the trials.
I was a bit surprised by Dr. Fauci’s level of optimism. As the brilliant Dr. Brilliant said a few minutes later, “weak tea is better than no tea.” In essence, when you have nothing, something is better than nothing even if the something only helps a little.
The stats:
The mortality rate with Rendesivir was 8%, with a placebo 11%. Fauci and the other doctors say this is
not statistically significant.
As to duration of illness: 11 days with Rendesivir and 15 days with a placebo. The doctors say this
is statistically significant. I didn’t catch if they said what the start date was for “duration of illness.” The end date was date of discharge from the hospital.
A key point that seemed to be encouraging to Dr. Fauci was that this could be a beginning in the sense that hopefully the scientists have now found something that works, even if only a little bit, from which other drugs could build on to provide more effective therapies.
This drug is currently only available to be administered intravenously. A pill is not yet available. Obviously, it would dramatically increase this drug’s ability to be used if they could come up with a pill.
