Setting aside the validity of the numbers he is citing for a moment, you and the good doctor are both forgetting something.

The entire world shut down to get the death rate down equal to the flu.

So---what does that tell you? Anything?

And the death rate is only equal to the flu in the sense that the total dead (60K officially, likely 100K in reality) is near the total for the flu in a BAD year - but this is in 5-6 weeks (3 months if you are generous for US numbers). And it will continue to climb - and faster if they get their way. Very biased and ill-informed viewpoint.

We may get to 55k for the month of April alone.

Listening to Cuomo's morning report this AM, in which he just pointed out that Germany eased its' restrictions and saw a 40% rise in infections so they are backing off. Not the best of news from a country with a far lower infections rate than ours.

Actually one would expect some sort of rise.
As Germany has a lower infection rate, that means they would have less people who have immunity towards the disease, and would likely have a higher percent rise than NY.

This could go on all summer with people like Cuomo in charge.

People need to start protesting!

In NYC the best numbers for total infected as percentage of population is around 25%. Need to get to absolute minimum of 60% for herd immunity. So any relaxation efforts need to consider modified behavior compared to before fairly strict SD measures.

Things like no large gatherings for longer. Modifications to urban transport to minimize potential for transmission.

And still - test a lot, trace contacts, isolate suspected people.

The state of Florida has now stopped its medical examiners from releasing numbers about people who have died from COVID-19.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Florida’s state health department intervened earlier this month to suppress the medical examiners’ reports, which regularly showed death totals that were 10 percent higher than the official tallies put out by the state.

For the past nine days, no reports from the medical examiners have been made available to the public, and there’s no indication of when they will be released in the future.

Dr. Stephen Nelson, the chairman of the state Medical Examiners Commission, tells the Tampa Bay Times that state officials have told him they’re planning to remove probably causes of death from the examiners’ report, which would make it impossible to tell how many people the examiners believe have died from coronavirus.

“This is no different than any other public record we deal with,” Nelson said. “It’s paid for by taxpayer dollars and the taxpayers have a right to know.”

The Tampa Bay Times also notes the Florida state government has shown a pattern of suppressing information about the disease.

“Last month, it tried to persuade the medical examiner’s office in Miami-Dade County to restrict access to its death records, according to the Miami Herald and correspondence between the two agencies obtained by the Times,” the paper writes.
