That is all fine and good Doc. Where is your letter of consolation to those many thousands of folks whose business will never reopen? If you want to tell em they took one for the FLP team I bet you don't have the nads to say that to them face to face. They did not ask to have their way of living shut down, they were ordered to do so by a loving, caring and benevolent government. As I heard one commentator say ... businesses can be made to rise again, but not dead people.

I think the stimulus and aid packages passed to date are too little, too late, and too slow.

If we want to mitigate all the harm done to individuals and businesses (for the good cause of keeping people alive), then we will need to spend at least ten trillion dollars or so, about four times as much spent already. Probably more. Republicans in Congress need to get over their reticence over these massive aid packages.

The economy can’t open back up until people feel confident they won’t get infected and suffer severe illness or die. For example, Disneyland can open again, but people won’t go unless they really feel safe taking their children. You can order barber shops back open, but barbers won’t go to work if they don’t feel safe, and most folks won’t risk their lives for a haircut.

They say the ability to delay gratification is one of the most important signs of intelligence and diligence in children. In Trump, you have a leader who has virtually no impulse control. Bringing a pandemic under control and keeping people safe takes time, lots of time.

This crisis will be with us in one form or another for at least another year. Doesn’t mean we will be in complete lockdown all that time, but the “new normal” won’t come around until a vaccine is ready and implemented.

We have been in shutdown mode for just five weeks. Trump and Congress need to start passing more aid bills (trillions of dollars) and soon.

And the American people need to be told the truth by their president ... that this crisis will almost certainly be stretching to some degree deep into next year.

It's at the bottom of the working wage level that this program is "better" than the regular pay.
But only there. And only temporarily.

As I'm not a stock picker, I won't bite on ANY of these, but it's interesting nevertheless.

I tend to think that Bill Gates has a good handle on all this. Bill's message is that there's many, many therapeutics and many, many vaccines in the pipeline and the odds are good that there will be some successes.

The degree of efficacy matters.
Some help is good, higher efficacy obviously better on the therapeutics.
There may be multiple 'winners' based on specific types of patients, specific symptoms, and timing.
"Best" for each will win, but not all that produce some efficacy will be 'winners' in the marketplace.
According to Bill, some approaches appear more promising than others, typically aren't touted publicly.

On the vaccines, the big question may be how persistent any immunity is relative to a mutating virus. No sure things.
But super important to actual return to something reasonably close to pre-pandemic 'normal'.

That said, I don't think it's entirely out of the question to see a general strike happen...post crisis. I suspect we're going to see a whole lot of willingness to take much bigger steps to force social/economic change in the wake of this thing.

Let me suggest that you support Biden and the moderate wing of the Dems to mediate those pressures. Otherwise, it could get quite bloody if handled poorly.
