Maybe this would be a good comparison:
A bit inconsistent with what this Twitter user posted. (Note the above image is a non-linear time scale)
His data starts about midway through the Pleistocene era. But look at the projections (red dots) for the NEAR future compared with the peaks of the second half of the Pleistocene. Substantial elevation if we let it happen...

No, from a human being named David Birch.

Re: Climate Change & The Environment
If the original graph from Birch is correct, it really drives home the incredible fact that we can do in 100-200 years what it takes the earth tens of thousands of years to do. Thought provoking stuff indeed, thanks for sharing YA.
Re: Climate Change & The Environment
Note that the XKCD graph represents just the last fifth of the panel I posted...

I don't know if anyone has posted this article yet. An interesting article on the melting of glaciers in Antarctica, which could lead to a catastrophe that would make one forget coronavirus.

There is as great a chance we will go through another ice age as we will suffer from global warming.
All of us who wish will be skiing in Telluride next year and every year thereafter. Chill with the doomsday scenario's.

Re: Climate Change & The Environment
Hopefully if we invest enough trillions of dollars planet earth will forgive us and refreeze all those glaciers. PLANET EARTH WILL DO WHAT IT WANTS. WHEN IT WANTS. HOW IT WANTS AND WHERE IT WANTS. If you folks out there actually believe a bunch of scientists can stop what the planet will do. You are confusing what it means to be a good steward of the planet with believing a bunch of stupid humans can stop what will happen. It never ceases to amaze me how gullible and foolish so many if you are. When you can explain to me how you reverse CC/GW and give me detailed reasoning how that happens... I will be all ears. You can't and you wont because all of you are living in the land of make believe. You all think you can change the earth. Most of you folks are too lazy to pick up the trash on your own front lawn. Yet you folks have deluded yourselves into thinking you can save the planet.
We don't make mistakes, we have happy accidents.

global climate is moving in a direction that makes abrupt climate change more probable, that these dynamics lie beyond the capability of many of the models used in IPCC reports, and the consequences of ignoring this may be large. For those of us living around the edge of the N. Atlantic Ocean, we may be planning for climate scenarios of global warming that are opposite to what might actually occur.

I guess Bill gates doesn't really believe in global warming either...buys a $43 million compound on the beach. How many of these instances do the climate alarmists need to read before you start questioning the hype peddlers?

Actually your statement is incorrect. The author mentions that the shift to colder periods is likely millennials away, that means it is not really likely to occur soon. There is also a low chance of an large volcano or an asteroid hitting the Earth, and cooling it. Thus there is not as great a chance we will go through another ice age as we will suffer global warming during the rest of this century.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:39 amCooter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 1:30 pmNo. That is incorrect.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 1:25 pm

How do you re freeze those icebergs cooter? Maybe you need to consult with JHU72 and explain to us how we accomplish that? Is it stopping cow farts or driving electric cars or eliminating internal combustion engines or do we all stop eating meat and become vegans. I would love to read the FLP blueprint on how to save the planet. I guess if we invest trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars the planet will forgive all of us.Cooter wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 9:56 amActually your statement is incorrect. As I have said... planet earth will do what it wants. When it wants, where it wants and how it wants. You have any clues on how we stop this virus? No vaccine, no herd immunity and no clue what we should do next. We don't have to let the virus do anything. It will kill as many people as it sees fit too... sherlock. No? The answer is, a nice virulent virus could do it. Something like a nasty small pox.... changes in habitat often fuels new viruses Sherlock... stay fat dumb and happy.... if lucky, you will be gone before it matters.
