I am the biggest proponent of listening to the other side of anyone you'll ever meet; you always learn more listening to the other side! Always.

I actually invite some (what I consider) known speakers to private events where they get to tell me to my face (and my friends) that we are completely wrong about everything. half the time I believe them!

The one thing I hope I don't do here, and I am sure I am guilty from time to time, is make direct personal insults (I am allowed to call Dems nitwits, because that is not a direct insult to anyone in particular!). I hate when I catch myself doing it; truly hate it.

Feel free to call me a hypocrite when you see me do that.

Government handouts staring you in the face. And you still can't see it.

The FDA's granting of orphan status for remdesivir as a treatment for COVID-19 came with financial incentives for Gilead that include tax breaks, waiver of FDA fees and market exclusivity for seven years if the drug is approved. New drug molecules typically only get five years of this exclusivity.

It's my Dennis Miller theory of homosexuality shot through the movie "Boy and the Dolphin." If you're a 12-year-old boy and you're watching the movie "Boy and a Dolphin" and a 27-year-old Sofia Loren crawls up out of the Aegean Sea after sponge diving, she's standing there in the deck of the boat in a see-through gauze top, rivulets of water dripping off her torso onto the deck of the boat. If you're a 12-year-old boy and you're watching that and you still want to make it with the captain of the boat, you're gay.

Some Chincoteagues are indeed tasty! I'm more of an oyster guy myself, but I do like to mix few a salty clams into the mix. Generally better, or at least safer, in cold months though. Gotta slurp.

Never really seen the appeal of large quahogs up north, but I do love me a big platter of fried full bodies, soft shells.

It'll certainly be good to get back, at some point, to being able to share these experiences with families and pals.

Meanwhile, buy and prepare as much seafood as you can while at home, the industry is hurting as people usually eat most seafood at restaurants.

Well, I mean people who know what they are actually talking about

Anyway, if you are a conservative on this board and you want to learn what true liberals are, invite Matt Bruenig to your house and be entertained for hours by a guy whose knowledge about most political subjects is significantly beyond his years, even though I hardly agree with him on economic matters. I do agree with him on almost everything when it comes to civil rights. Glenn Greenwald is quite an amazing teacher too. Ryan Grim. Bernie Sanders prior press secretary is going places and can speak with such charm, you'd hardly think she's a socialist: Briahna Joy Gray. These are smart people with tons of ideas, and it's fascinating to hear their thoughts on wealth disparity, M4A, etc...

632,092 total deaths in the USA, as of April 22, 2020 (hey, that's today ) How does that match up to the same time frame, in the previous ten years.

21K dead from V-19
3R -- let's talk death counts. 2.8 million people die in the USA each year from all causes.

34k of those each year are from seasonal flu. That's what you get with widely used flu vaccines but not social distancing measures. If we didn't have flu shots, then the deaths would be higher.

39k of those are from car crashes. That's what you get with all the things we do to combat those deaths -- air bags, seat belts, traffic lights, speed limits, drunk driving laws, etc. If we got rid of those things, car deaths would be higher.

UW currently projecting 66k deaths from Covid. Doesn't sound all that bad. But you only get 66k ASSUMING that current social distancing measures are maintained until June.

If you take down those SD measures, then the deaths would go up. How much I don't know. The Imperial College folks predicted 1-2.2 million with zero measures. For comparison, the 1918 Spanish Flu killed 675k in the USA.

So what would you do 3R? Let it rip and accept a 7 figure death toll? Or something else?

You can't argue that we should accept 66k deaths and have no measures. Because that is not an available option. With no measures, it would be much higher. Would 200k be ok? 500k? 1 million? 2 million?

Personally, I wouldn't shut the country down for only 200k deaths. I would for 500k.

You have to tell us your number.
