Fits the academic acumen of a top academic school from the PL, one of the few coaches with a player centric mentor on staff, academic navigation experience in recruiting, only negative..loves Bethlehem, but JHU provides a solid 5-7 years of stability.
If you read between the lines I think the reports today pretty much rule him out.
You don't think Cassese is going to hold on at Lehigh until the Duke(his alma mater) job opens up?
IMO, lacrosse nepotism rules out Duke for Cassese.
Lacrosse nepotism?
Danowksi son in the wings.
I am sure Matt is a great person and coach. But he has zero coaching experience outside of being hired by his dad as an assistant at his alma mater. Wouldn't Duke prefer an accomplished head coach like Chemotti or Cassese when the time comes?
So what, he was educated at Duke, a top player in college and Pro, his mentor is one of the best coaches out there....who’s coaching tree roots stretch far and wide. And let’s not kid ourselves....it’s not rocket science, it’s frigen lacrosse, it’s more about relationships, chemistry, and raw talent.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Having a hard time understanding the allure of Murphy other than he problably had a good working relationship with your AD and comes from a similar setting with strong academics. Looking at UPenn records and they really only had two strong seasons over the 11 years he's coached . Outside those two seasons, record is below .500. As far as your AD, understand position requires much organizational skills and scope beyond the playing fields but UPenn team success during days as player , asst coach or interim coach was not inspiring. Petro had twenty years of success, is only 53 and was the face of JHU sports to this outsider. Different sports but some parallels between Petro and Belichik. Both coaching at same place for twenty years and almost identical winning percentages. Both got their team into playoffs almost every year, Belichik has won more titles partially due to the fact that he didn't have Brady for just four years. Wonder if Kraft dismisses him when Patriots have some less than stellar seasons.

Without Tom, Bill, & Matt Cassell, won 11 games. (year Brady hurt knee) First time in NFL history an 11 win team did NOT go to the playoffs. Odd.

.....who will be coaching Tom in Tamba Pay ? exactly......

Johns Hopkins University cuts leaders’ salaries, expects layoffs as school projects more than $100M in losses

But hey, let's pay up for a Big Time coach

Crisis planning: In tough times, take steps to cut costs while doing whatever you can to ensure the most important employees stay to weather the storm. If admin considers lax to be at all important, the HC salary is a rounding error on the cuts to be made and funds leadership of a highly visible aspect of the university (granted, not nearly as important as academics).

I doubt the money coming to pay the coach is coming from the general funds but from lax program supporters donations. And, it doesn't really matter at this point. Hopkins needs a coach.

Maybe stupified. That relationship with the AD though may be huge in this case. Also, did Murphy have the level of players that HOP had for majority of his time at Penn? Don't think so but his record the past couple of years shows maturity and an ability to recruit top players. Those Penn teams the past couple years would have crushed Hopkins IMO. If we're comparing Murphy to Petro, let's compare where they're at now, (not total records, which is apples to oranges) in terms of good fit for Hopkins. I originally thought Nadelen was a shoe-in but I'd bet on Murphy now. All speculation of course.

Not to mention the Hopkins coach effectively WILL be taking a pay cut. Because whoever it is, he's likely to make less than what Petro was making when he left. So in that sense the athletic department is saving a bit of money.

I think Murphy has a good chance. Not because anybody expects him to win a national championship next year but because of the Penn/ JHU connections and the fact that he has experience coaching smart kids. JHU and Penn are similar schools in many respects and I think Murphy has shown that he can field a competitive team without creating the problems associated with Pietramala.

Well, guess Hopkins isn't returning its CARE act millions, just like Harvard aint' returning it.

Do you know how long even ONE billion of Bloomies donation can sustain yearly $100 million in losses ? Ten years. Sell it somewhere else, Hopkins endowment and wall street investments are killing it. Do every year. Plenty of money.

Per @college_crosse twitter, it's down to Nads and Milliman. Never would have guess Milliman, but so it goes.

Lots of Head Coach talk, understandably. But, let's not forget the entire coaching staff is out. Any ideas on assistants? Will Hopkins and the Athletic Dept. do the hiring or will the new HC handpick his assistants?

It's got to be the decision of the Head Coach I feel. He wouldn't want to work with someone he has no chemistry with. Plus, it's as much as his staff as it is the University's.

If JHU signs Milliman, how quickly would Cornell get Petro in for an interview up in Ithaca?

It has been a long time but I think he left Cornell in good terms. Left them with a great bunch of young coaches too.

For the purposes of this I'll assume it'll be Nadelen, as I think knowing the head coach makes thinking about assistants easier.

In that scenario, guys who would be on my list:

OC:
Phipps
Reppert
Stanwick
Boyle
Crawley

DC:
Cocchi
Wellner
Koesterer
Georgalas
