So your claim is that China not being able to go "nya nya nya" is worth HOW MANY American lives?

And anyway, wouldn't China have figured out that the TR had a virus problem when the whole crew disembarked for an extended period, no matter when that period began?

no, no, no, the Chinese have no intelligence capabilities, they'd have thought they'd stopped for the dancing girls.

Had it been possible to keep the crew on the naval base on Guam, as we have with the Reagan in Yokosuka, the degree of the degradation of the crew would be masked. I disagree with publishing the numbers of TR crewmembers infected & hospitalized, but since Crozier made it a big story it's necessary to prevent it being assumed even worse than it is.

...of it's just "nya nya nya"games, why bother with the expense of deploying a carrier strike group to WPac. Taiwan, S Korea, Japan & our other allies in the region do not think it's fun & games.

Salty, we all agree that the missions are serious and important, certainly in the big picture. But so is the virus and the stop and removal of the crew were inevitable. The Chinese would have certainly known where each of our ships are at all times. And they're very savvy on the IC side, just as were are about their movements and why.

I had that reaction about the Chinese knowing when you first posted, but didn't want to pick another fight on it. No one likes the Chinese thumbing their noses at us, but no ones' lives are being lost when they do so.

We need to get our ships and crews into position to fulfill their various missions.

Only fools swallow the WP's weasel words without closer examination. You left out this part :

But while the attachment circulated widely, Crozier’s email did not.

The leaked content was the attachment. The email was just the cover document, showing original distribution. 3 action addressees, cc to 8 info addees.

Since it was improperly unclassified, the attachment went viral & (not surprisingly) leaked to the media in short order.
Unprofessional & too cute by half.

The Chinese (& N Koreans) aren't sure whether or not the Reagan can get underway, sail & fight.

There was no reason to give them specific details re the TR in that regard.

No lives are lost unless they provoke an incident at sea with us or one of our allies.

https://thehill.com/policy/defense/4931 ... ged-report
An unnamed senior defense official told the Post that Crozier could have sent what's known as a “personal for” message to senior service leaders that would have flagged the issue as sensitive and important without looping in as many people.

Crozier was fired after the attached memo — which warned that “sailors do not have to die” — leaked to the press.

The email was addressed to Rear Adm. Stuart Baker, commander of the Roosevelt's carrier strike group; Adm. John Aquilino, commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet; and Vice Adm. DeWolfe Miller, commander of Naval Air Forces. Seven other captains were copied on the email.
If the Hill report is accurate in naming the redacted names in the WP image -- it makes no sense that Commander Naval Air Forces would be addressed (not in the CoC), while Vice Adm Bill Merz, Commander 7th Fleet (in the CoC between the other 2 addresses) would be omitted.

I don't want to jump to a conclusion, but I can at least imagine a possibility.

But, yeah, Modly grossly misrepresented the distribution of the memo. Wonder why he did that?

Those people were already not doing the job that Crozier believed they should be doing.

And the last on the list is already gone for gross incompetence.

No. He had been ashore several days, asymptomatic, living in a quarantine house with 3 shipmates under medical supervision.

Rather than being discovered unresponsive at 0830, he would likely have been discovered sooner if still aboard ship.

You are saying that those who passed it along didn't recognize that there was classified information contained?

I'm sure you realize that classified information is classified regardless of whether someone has stamped it such, right?

I agree, providing classified info to someone cleared for such is not the same as passing to those not cleared.
