That seems to me to be a pretty significant rain cloud. Obviously, deaths is the most important statistic, but new cases, new hospitalizations, ICUs, and discharges are important as well.

Maybe some numbers from yesterday bled over into today’s numbers. Easter Sunday?

Deaths are currently running at almost 4% of reported cases so are we looking at almost 5000 deaths from these new 123,000 cases? Hopefully not. Maybe a change in the ventilator protocol is improving the death rate. (Really tragic if it turns out that a lot of people died because the doctors were still trying to figure out how to treat the disease. Not their fault, of course. They have been doing the best they can under extraordinarily trying circumstances. Tragic nonetheless.)

And UK (167 per million) is 4X Germany and 2X USA. France, Italy and Spain much worse than UK.

As poor a job as the US has done, there's many places much much worse.

Governor Lamont said on Chris Cuomo’s show tonight that two weeks ago Trump told Gov. Cuomo and him that he wanted a mandatory quarantine of the metropolitan areas of New York and Connecticut. Now two weeks later Trump wants a mandatory opening up of everything.

Off topic and can’t recall which thread it had been mentioned but wanted to just say for the folks who had expressed their best wishes around my mother’s situation I wanted to say thank you. Occasionally antAgonistic here and there on the boards but I appreciate the words from some of you and wanted to just update that I at least have clarity now. It’s game over for her, stage 4, spreading, chemo and other actions are off the table and best case 6mo, oncologist said likely a bit less. Finally moving to a palliative care facility. That’s a mess nothing local available and struggling to justify the carry on having her in her house at $14k/mo which isn’t insignificant for me (really net like 9500-10 with her income) so looking like she’s heading up to some joint in Roch. Heading back up to Bungo next week.

So just wanted to express that I don’t wish anyone here any I’ll will despite occasional aggressive talk/tone and hope our whole community the best at all times. Occasionally this can be a therapeutic diversion for me.

Keep hoping that Trump will get a clue, Salty.

Nope, Trump can't order states to close or to open. He can recommend only.
Unless what, martial law?
forcing people out of their homes???

He does have extraordinary powers to tell businesses to re-direct their output, but hasn't used that power to any real effect. He does have the ability to federalize production and distribution of key elements, testing, PPE, ventilators, etc...but they haven't done it.

And he does have an enormous bully pulpit. He used it to enormously ill effect.

He's going to continue to flail and flail and flail. He'll whine and whine and whine about how awful the press is for not recognizing what a Very Stable Genius he really is and he will blame absolutely anyone and everyone for his own shortcomings.

and guys like you will keep giving all that a pass...because you agree with some of his policies...

I believe he has declared a national state of emergency and has the right to do so if he has not already excersized it. As such his self imposed power is virtually unlimited and his right wing courts will happily rubber stamp every edict he declares.
The national emergency does provide enormous additional powers. They don't extend as far as he seems to think they do. I think he'd need to go to some sort of martial law, suspension of the Constitution. In no way do I trust he'll not do so.

Liz Cheney's tweet last night is an indication that at least some GOP leaders don't buy the 'absolute power' of a President.

You are projecting. I don’t look down at people that work at soup kitchens or people that rely on soup kitchens for meals. I would take my kids to a local soup kitchen so that they could help those less fortunate they they are. I spent a summer delivering meals on wheels. I would not do that today without taking public health precautions given this pandemic. My point is that you are acting like Coronavirus is no big deal. Put your money where your mouth is and go mingle with strangers and don’t wear a mask, gloves or wash your hands. A positive attitude will see you through....

https://www.as-coa.org/articles/latam-f ... e-populism
look at it more like a poor scouting report........."he's all rightie". Nope, you treat ALL players on the field with respect. But, you dont' shut off and face guard...EVERYONE.............the entire game.

Did more people die in Puerto Rico from Hurricanes, or this virus? (oh, we'll see )

and TLD, spare us your trips down memory. TODAY. today you come across exactly the way YOUTH called it. arrogant.

Why not say, "go down to the exchange and shake hands with all the money changers, no gloves, washing hands, etc "
INstead, you go homeless, the indigent . Fairfield county arrogance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAjEW2zgs_o

are they wearing PPE's on the exchange floors? exactly

sounds like a big deal to me

My heart goes out to you Far. I went through the same thing with my dad 13 years ago. Everyday hurts more than the day before. My only suggestion is to spend as much time with your mom each and every day that you possibly can. Myself, when i did that with my dad it was very hard to do. My goal was that when he died one of his kids would be at his side. He left this world alone and i would have given anything to be there by his side. He had been dying for so long we just did not know when it would happen. He came down with shingles and the morphine they gave him for the pain mercifully sped up the process. Hang in there and get her up to Rochester. There are so many kind and loving people here who will give her the best care in the world.
If that joint here in Rochester happens to be The Leo Center for Caring I can assure you your mom is in the care of the best people in the world when it comes to end of life care. They are remarkable to say the least.

No, more like Virginia, Monkey County Maryland, Orange and Maran Counties in California.

Those three states you mentioned, any kind of investments for the residents of those states? In other words, do they send their money TO YOU.....to Wall street?

EO 12163 .......Reagan loved him some emergency powers act. Amazed it's still on the books............Hillaryous would have removed it. Joe will..

Oh, and a lack of money. There's not enough money to throw at the problems any more.

If you were to poll the Democrats here, is there even a shred of doubt that the answer to every one of Baltimore's ills is 'more money'? $2,000,000,000 can only get you so far in a city with a declining population! Even Catherine Pugh couldn't make it on that!!
