It’s amazing to see liberals here repost a map where the guy who put it up originally is absolutely getting slaughtered on Twitter, causing him to retract the original thesis. The real problem is finding liberals who are NOT filled with hate, rage, or snark against those they think are inferior to them.
UHHH, 3rd person, not sure liberals can wrap their brains around the idea that grocery stores and places of work in rural areas are often more than two miles away. Not everyone has access to a corner bodega.
I'll try to put it in terms you can understand. If you normally travel 2 miles in a week going back and forth from your corner bodega and now you still travel 2 miles in a week, it's gonna be dark red. If you normally travel 100 miles in a week to the Family Dollar a county over and now travel 0, it's gonna be light gray.

If you have a cell phone, you are tracked, unless you run around with it turned off. Ever wonder why your home phone rings within 30 minutes of arriving home for the day. Or when you start your car your phone reminds you how long it will take to get to your typical daily destination. You have to really dig into the phone to disable all that crap...and even then you'll miss something.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Not yet, can't replace our yellow lab. She has been gone for 4 months now and I am still heartbroken. I was cleaning up in the back yard today . Tomorrow i will attack the garden. If it is dry enough i will run the roto tiller through it. Gardening is the best therapy to get through this. My tulips and daffodils are just starting to open up. My lilac bushes are getting ready to pop. Virus or no virus, spring is here.

I like your map. It's a great map of the percentage of people who have no car and no supermarket within a mile of them.
Now, do us all a favor and go back and type out what the other map says - just type out all those words in the bottom left hand corner of the map.

Percent change in average travel for the week of March 23, compared with travel before the coronavirus outbreak.

All I see are pretty pastels. The only map reading i was ever proficient at was following a direction on a topographical map. Give me a compass and a heading in degrees and i will find my way there. If you want a brain challenge, try and look at a topographical map and relate it to what you are seeing. Elevation, rivers, streams maybe permanent impact areas that intersect your destination. I do remember all of the fire breaks in the boonies of Ft Bragg and the north/south and east /west grid patterns they were laid out in. Our maps did not have all the pretty colors.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 6:20 pmMaybe it's not map reading, it's simple reading?Peter Brown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 5:33 pmholmes435 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 3:28 pmUHHH, buddy, not sure you can wrap your brain around the idea that it's not a map of how far people travel. I’m watching this task force press conference.
I know you TDS-afflicted are gonna hate to hear this, but Trump is finding his footing. He seems like he actually understands some virus specifics that most people don’t, which I’d normally not expect out of him. I know you yahoos will fillet him regardless but the voters are likely recognizing this.
Also, Dr Birx is a rockstar.
Most of today’s media are actually asking legitimate non-gotcha questions.

Or in a couple hours.ggait wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 12:22 pmPete -- I had not heard of Sweden's differing approach. Interesting. Sweden vs. Denmark should be a pretty good experiment. My bet is that Denmark wins this contest.Anyhoo, Sweden’s government has adopted a “business as usual” mentality in response to the pandemic. Schools, restaurants, malls, and ski slopes all remain open until further notice. The only rules in place are a ban on gatherings of more than 50 people and an order forcing restaurants and bars to seat all customers to avoid overcrowding. This suggests that people are taking their fear cues from their government more than they are from the actual risk of the disease.
Right now, Denmark is at 21 deaths per million pop; Sweden is a bit worse at 28. Sweden deaths are doubling every four days and the curve is bending up. Denmark deaths are doubling every five days and the curve is bending down.
Both countries look to be quite early in the game. It is very cold and very dark in Scandinavia in February. Very little foreign tourism, no big outdoor concerts or festivals. Dr. Birks talked about how that appeared to be helping Sweden a couple days ago. Folks in Sweden will be a lot less isolated in April as daylight and temperatures increase.
Let's check back in a week and see how it progresses.
Denmark daily deaths today went from 14 to 19. Next door, Sweden's went from 59 to 69. Denmark holding steady at 21 deaths per pop; Sweden now up to 30 deaths per pop.
Maybe "business as usual" is not going to work so well for the Swedes....

According to the story, Taiwan just donated two million masks to the United States.
