Throw in massive environmental destruction in the form of ill-planned levees, building over natural floodplains and more, and we've just set ourselves up for bigger issues when we do get heavier rains once in a while.

A fun little interactive article: To See How Levees Increase Flooding, We Built Our Own

One of the reasons my area on the Chesapeake floods more now is that they've built over a lot of natural wetlands and estuaries the past 6 decades. There's now no place for the water to go when we get heavy rains, storms, or extra-high tides.

A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

I don't see a problem with this at all. That is how nerds work. I say this with out reading either article but on the general principle.

Pose an idea, collect data present data see if data supports hypothesis. Have others redo or confirm work by being able to reproduce data using your methodologies. Seems like this did not happen and in the second instance scientists come up with a different conclusion. This goes around and around until those working in the field come to a general consensus. You probably know this.........but if you read the nerd literature you see the same thing happen all the time on almost every topic.

Fossil-Fuel Subsidies Must End - Despite claims to the contrary, eliminating them would have a significant effect in addressing the climate crisis

"When it comes to tackling the climate crisis, ending $400 billion of annual subsidies to the fossil-fuel industry worldwide seems like a no-brainer."

Annually, global fossil fuel subsidies are around 6.5% of the global GDP (around $4.9 and 5.3 TRILLION in 2013 and 2015 respectively.)

We're giving a whole lot of taxpayer money to the biggest companies in the world.

You would almost think she was picked for this position by some right wing group - like say the Heartland Institute.

What a great idea.

Those individuals with concerns about the health of the unborn might want to consider the effects of mercury on developing fetuses.

Yup. Who knows letting the coal industry pump more mercury into the air might even increase the indication for more late term abortions.

I remember a large shipfull of climate scientists getting trapped "surprisingly" in the ICE off Antartica because it wasn't supposed to be there.

I was naively hoping that Coronavirus (a true threat) would push global warming to the dustbin of leftist history, but virtue signalling doesn't sleep I suppose. Oh well. Onward.
