We should start to call it Trump-Stupidity -Virus when our number of deaths from Covid 19 exceeds all other countries in the world, which it likely will if we continue to listen to Trump's advice and leadership.Bandito wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 11:16 pmGeez. Enough of the fear porn and TDS. Trump could cure cancer or this CHINESE virus and you’d still complain. Over half the cases are in NYC. Most the US isn’t under this pandemic. Trump doesn’t listen to liberal shills like you. That’s why America loves him. He puts liberals in their place. Finally, a president not afraid to stand up to the liberal media mob. Enjoy your TDS! I’ll enjoy not worrying about getting the virus and another 4 years of Trump.calourie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 9:02 pmTrump is at 60% approval rating for his handling of Covid because Americans generously want to give him the benefit of the doubt during this pandemic. The final numbers for the day in the US show 85,000 cases, 1300 deaths and 266 new deaths. The public will bear with him unless (which is looking more and more like until) the death numbers appear to be careening out of control. This is likely to happen if people fall prey to his Easter off to church and back to work lunacy. Trump would be far better off downplaying the greatness of his response (which he does for people like Bandito) and put his energy into getting federal aid to where it is most needed, and making social behavioral suggestions that his health advisors actually agree with.Bandito wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 8:19 pmHe sure did. Lexington VA to Harrisburg PA last Sunday morning.
I would say, other than truck traffic, 40% were Quebec or Ontario license plates on Rt 81. Lots of RVs along the way heading North also.
Expecting a spike in Canada in about 5 days.

George Herbert Walker Bush reached 91% approval after the Kuwait victory. A short recession was still enough to sink him.

Re: Republican Moron From Kentucky Delays Stimulus Bill
Well, Rep. Thomas Massie is a special kind of stupid. He is just one of four House Republicans who voted against making lynching a federal hate crime. While some who opposed the law claimed to have opposed it because it was not tough enough (a blatant lie), Massie reasoned lynching should be treated like any other murder.wgdsr wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 11:15 pmhttps://www.cnn.com/2020/03/25/politics ... index.htmlDocBarrister wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 10:33 pm Looks like a single Republican moron from Kentucky (are those words redundant?), Rep. Thomas Massie, is refusing to back a voice vote on the rescue package, forcing the entire House to scramble back to Washington, DC. This could delay passage by a day or two.

aoc maybe gave him the idea.
you're old enough, doc, our politicians aren't out there to protect or advance our nterests.
it is a cesspool and shows no signs of letting up. even as they will all likely claim their lever here is all about them being bipartisan and magnanimous for we the people.
In other words, Massie denied there was anything particularly special about lynching as a crime. He ignores lynching’s sordid history as an iconic American act of domestic terrorism. Lynching has long been used to terrorize African Americans.

So, not only is Massie stupid, he’s also a racist. A combination we have seen on this very thread and that is all too common in the Republican Party.
Now this idiot is forcing House members back to the Capitol in the middle of a pandemic.
What a moron.

I see your TDS is full effect now, so much so you immediately attacked the messenger even with an attempt to read and listen to her. This has nothing to do with her, she is reporting on the UK and wants to see more data.

My mother-in-law is in an Atria home in MA. They've had guests, including family, banned for two weeks, escalated last week from no community meals (with meals deliver to room) to no leaving the room...can't go to hospital for medical procedures and then return without certification of no CV (which is impossible). She gets periodic spinal shots to relieve back pain, a surgical procedure...she won't be able to get them. She has some but not complete dementia, so struggles...she also watches Fox non-stop so was greatly relieved to hear that CV has been beaten and she'll be able to go church on Easter...difficult to explain to her that she can't get the back pain shot...Trinity wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 7:58 am https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/20 ... ronavirus/

I think she has some good points. I am hopeful that she is right on the doomsday predictions. I certainly do not believe we are at a point of easing restrictions, especially in NY. I will be more comfortable with her assessment when the curve begins to bend in New York but that is just me.youthathletics wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 7:59 amThis is certainly worth a listen...and may very well be why Trump started the conversation on getting back to normal by Easter.old salt wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:49 pmhttps://www.realclearpolitics.com/video ... lysis.html

Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
So, she makes one particular statement that is blatantly misleading. We already have hospitals that have run out of beds and ventilators...can't take more cases. If she means that in aggregate we still have more, of course that's true...but it's not what is happening on the ground in hot spots. Much less looking at next week's trajectory. Is she just out of touch with that reality on the ground, or is she deliberately shading things to 'happy talk'?youthathletics wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 8:09 am I see your TDS is full effect now, so much so you immediately attacked the messenger even with an attempt to read and listen to her. The other is more nuanced. At the end of her statement she says that "in the next 8 to 12 weeks", we won't have 60-70% spread. Who the heck said we would? in that time period?
No, what the models indicate is that WITHOUT social distancing and without a vaccine, this very contagious virus, which infects through asymptomatic as well as symptomatic carriers, and with no natural immunity, the inevitable spread would be ballpark 60-70% spread. But over many months.
More than the annual flu spread for which we do have some natural immunity and do have vaccines.
But we're not doing nothing re CV-19; (we vaccinate for flu but no systematic social distancing or quarantining)
So, the spread will be less...but only assuming that we sustain social distancing until we either have it reduced enough to be able to catch up with surveillance testing, contact tracing, and selective quarantining. Until vaccinations kick in and some herd immunity is achieved.
That's the problem with prematurely lifting restrictions, 'packed churches' etc. It will simply re-bloom and we'll need to go through massive shut downs all over again.
For the knuckleheads who want to treat this as just another flu and let it spread unimpeded, do the math guys.
How many hospitalized, how many dead?
If hospitals overwhelmed, how many others dead?
Is your policy to tell all patients with CV-19 or other flu-like symptoms to just stay home and suffer through it, whatever happens happens?
After all, why waste resources...folks have to die sometime, right?
Seriously, what's the policy?

That's exactly right. During a crisis, approval numbers sky rocket. 60% is extremely low.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 12:36 am You do realize that is pretty low for a president in a national emergency, right?

I'd think that the spike will be more like two to three weeks out as the community spread blossoms, though you're right that cases will increase in the meantime.

Your quoting of my response without the reference video is not cool. You have once again, played judge, jury, and shot the messenger. The entire point of the video reference, was to discuss REAL DATA and MODELS from the UK that have significantly changed their projected outcomes. Why you continually want to find fault in everything befuddles me.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 8:29 amSo, she makes one particular statement that is blatantly misleading.
