Have to either be a health care worker or first responder or actually need admission to hospital. Just being sick as heck is not enough.
No isolation of sick and no quarantine of families.
so, we likely have lots of cases spending the disease and will have our own bloom in due course...unless we get the testing fast.
I was surprised to learn this as my impression was that MD had its act together well.
Can you imagine what will eventually happen in Mississippi?
Streets empty. Seems like we locals are taking it seriously.

Trump’s failures
Although the American medical system is unsurpassed and its public health system has a reputation as one of the finest in the world, a series of missteps and lost opportunities dogged the nation’s response.
Among them: a failure to take the pandemic seriously even as it engulfed China, a deeply flawed effort to provide broad testing for the virus that left the country blind to the extent of the crisis, and a dire shortage of masks and protective gear to protect doctors and nurses on the front lines, as well as ventilators to keep the critically ill alive.

And from me as well. Same re your daughter, Red.RedFromMI wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 4:55 pmHopefully it is not sink or swim for her. They could always use her in a subsidiary role to allow the ICU nurses to cover more patients, or to actually have her caring for non COVID cases.foreverlax wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 4:41 pmI was pondering the bravery of the medical community, in this type of environment...I'd have to say these folks are about as brave as you get...at least operators can shoot back.cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:43 pm
For what it is worth my wife has been re-deployed from the elective surgical center where she works over to Rochester General Hospital. She is scared out of her mind. She has not worked in a hospital environment for more than twenty years. She is not convinced that her present day skill set makes her of any use in the present environment. I told her you are a registered nurse with almost 40 years experience. They will not expect you to become an ICU nurse over night. I am trying to convince her that she should be honored to have the opportunity to help save lives. She is not buying it because she is scared. There are many doctors and nurses serving us out there right now that are just like my wife. They have been put out of their element and asked to do medical work they are not trained to do.
They are going to do their best because saving lives is what they have dedicated their lives to doing. I am so over all of the political blaming going on here. If all of us were the adults in the room we would stop pointing fingers and help to beat this bad gamboo we are facing. i admit forthright that i can be a huge jerk and sort of enjoy poking fun at people, especially my FLP friends. I'm over that for now, all i hope for is that our dedicated medical professionals and scientists can put this virus to bed. I hope none of you out there have to face this. If you do, at least you know there are many people out there in our health care system that are on your side.
Truly fighting this war on the front line.
My daughter (a second year resident) is in a county up North where the number of cases has more than quadrupled in a week. It was one week ago that the first case showed up in her particular hospital. Have not spoken with her in a couple of days, but it is getting scary for that area in a hurry.
And a salute from me to your wife as well
Folks really are heroes.
Partisanship seems to drop away entirely when it comes to appreciating these folks.
We do get testy when others appear to, by their words and actions, be making the challenge worse...for these heroes!
Given what I assume to be her age, Cradle, certainly would make sense to have her with the non Covid-19 patients. However in the crush, may not be as rational as that. Very best to her and stay safe yourself.
God bless all these folks.

Time to get on the prayer wagon, I guess. Americans aren’t worthy of healthcare.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:29 pm So, a pandemic causes millions of Americans to lose their jobs.
What’s a major consequence of that?
Millions will also lose their health insurance coverage ... in the middle of a pandemic.

Fan -- first, bravo for doing this!!For us, New Belgium Brewing is donating thousand of gallons of beer that we will distill into 95% alcohol for the next month and a half. We'll be running the stills seven days a week to get as much out as we can.
Second, I'm curious what the thinking is for starting with Fat Tire in order to make Everclear? Is making something like beer kind of the first step in making hooch?
Boycott stupid. If you ignore the gator troll, eventually he'll just go back under his bridge.

I'm not a Pelosi fan, but nor am I a hater.
I really liked her characterization this AM of her prayers on various topics, and on the possible conflict between science and prayer, "science is an answer to our prayers"
I think I'm quoting correctly.
"It won't happen unless we respect science, science, science. And for those who say we choose prayer over science, I say science is an answer to our prayers."

Dr. Deborah Birx is absolutely destroying the media for their lies and salacious reporting in their attempts to scare Americans
Not good for you fear porn posters on here.
Gallup - approval of their handling of the coronavirus:
Hospitals 88-10
State governments 82-17
Your employer 82-14
Trump 60-38
Congress 59-37
News media 44-55
Of all the groups they polled, nothing rates lower than the news media, and Trump beats them by 16% in approval.
This is why liberal media is the enemy of the people and called fake news.

It solves a technical issue. We're not set up to distill high abv mashes (>6%abv). Without boring you to tears, making a 5% abv mash versus a 10% abv mash improves the quality of the distillate.ggait wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:59 pmFan -- first, bravo for doing this!!For us, New Belgium Brewing is donating thousand of gallons of beer that we will distill into 95% alcohol for the next month and a half. Further, we distill with all the grain solids in. It takes longer to bring the pot to a boil.
So...long story short, using New Belgium's beer (it's not Fat Tire) at a strength of >8% abv doubles the amount of 95% spirit we can produce (what you call everclear) off of our vodka column.

And, based on these numbers, in 14 days, we'll surpass China in deaths.

Of course it does. But he is not a shipping clerk. Maybe that's what we need.
Just listened to the Trump Waste of Time Hour. First half hour was Trump politicking and making excuses and telling us how great he is. The second half had people who actually know something, not exactly telling or knowing the truth. Fauci was whisked on and off stage - less than 60 seconds after making a handful of truthful statements we have heard before.. Debbie seemed sincere but really out of touch with what is being reported by actual doctors and nurses on the scene, treating these patients. She is painting a much rosier picture than the soldiers in the field. What a cluster f***. She did have good news which I believe, that the large numbers like 60M to be infected are overblown. Never thought it would be that bad over this first 6 months. Claims now that they have some data and experience the models will be tuned with this data. She didn't want to commit to what she thought the real number would be. She gave a ridiculously low number as possible, but no commitment, didn't believe it herself.
IMO the good news is way overshadowed by how bad the communications seem to be between the soldiers and the generals (Birx). That situation is very likely to blow up!

Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
You actually believe Chinese and Iranian numbers? They are dictatorships and use media and propaganda to promote their horrible regimes. No way they’re telling the truth. The US will not surpass Chinese deaths. Stop believing the fear porn and mass hysteria. Dr. Brix is right on with her info. The mainstream media is beside themselves. The fear porn predictions are not even close to reality.
At present rates of infection and death the United States would need two million confirmed cases to equal the death toll from this year’s flu.

Done! Just spent 20 minutes talking to a nice young person out there who also convinced me to head over to Two Penguins in Centennial. I had no idea Colorado took their craft brews so seriously. Sorta got an education on that too.
