It is really because they are not offering room and board refunds. But hey, let's get an incubator going in the dorms where we can get a bunch infected and then send them home to their vulnerable families just in time for May...

At least I am not expected to go into work. I can do everything at home (so far three recorded/annotated powerpoints today)...

Also, there is a VERY low intolerance at Liberty for any dissent regarding decisions taken at the top. Faculty gets denied tenure, and staff gets canned. So there will not be a lot of complaints from those groups of people.

My knee jerk amazement isn't directed toward the faculty. It's towards the parents of the kids (if the kids go back) and much more towards the president of the school. he's a fool.

From all indications TDS is actually the disease that is going on in Trump's head. Setting Easter as the day he expects the American people to voluntarily free themselves from the shackles of social isolation and begin to rejuvenate our economy so that his chances for reelection can get back on track looks like it may well be the worst day he could have chosen, his messiah complex notwithstanding. I say this because the global history of the spread of Covid-19 combined with the trends that this past week have established indicate that Easter is apt to fall somewhere near the absolute peak in the virus in New York while the rest of the country will just be in the middle of an increase in the outbreak. No amount of cheerleading or gaslighting will alter the numbers even if he has fired Dr. Fauci by then and Birx and Adams have quit. It may turn out the American people as an entirety may not actually be as stupid as Trump gives them credit for.

PB, since you're opposed to pearl clutching, and since you believe Ginn's compelling argument that schools and public spaces should be opened up immediately, how about hosting a big party at your house???

I'm sure plenty of the Trump fans here would like to come, and airline tickets are cheap these days …

I won't be there, but I'll chip in for booze and snacks.

Yet, I don't agree with Ginn regarding the re-opening of schools (I do agree that all data and assumptions need to be re-tested, and re-test the re-tests, and keep re-testing).

I know, I know, it's so odd not to be all-in, anti Trump or pro Trump, anti-orthodoxy or pro-orthodoxy, but occasionally, some of us hold nuanced views. Heresy, I know. Guilty as charged.

Do I still get the booze (hold the snacks, thanks)?

So when you run short of ventilators, which NYS is doing you become color coded. Code Red, top priority. When you get to code yellow blue and green, the expletive term would be... you are F***ed. This is kinda of a sneak preview how single payer health care works. You FLP jackwagons made fun of the death panels. The stupidity of not having enough ventilators in the midst of a viral pandemic, because a state or federal government agency chose not to be prepared because they could not afford it. Some government wonk, not an insurance bean counter will decide who lives and who dies. I can't wait to hear all the BS spin on this from all of you lying FLP jack wagons. Single payer means the government decides who will live and who will die under any circumstance that they decide. So is the right. What do you and others say when someone criticizes our President?

You tell them they are lefties, and have TDS.

This is your idea of an open exchange of ideas?

Or the right calling anything that pops their bubble "fake news". That's an open exchange of ideas?

No. It's not. Stop telling us that only the left is intolerant. You KNOW this is flat out stupid and wrong.

You presume that the Left wants a dialogue. Not sure where you've been the last few years, but a large part of the whole Left mantra now is: no more dialogue. See that on campus or on media every day. And the reasoning gets, frankly, more idiotic by the minute.

I actually teach at a college, and I can tell you there is no such thing where I sit. Now I am not on campus now (although I was yesterday), but you get the idea.

Again, not to beat a dead horse, but take a look at Ginn's post and the hysteria around it (I believe you jumped on this bandwagon as well, no?) As it turns out, MIT today backed his claim that warmer weather might in fact be helpful to slow down the spread of Covid-19. Horrors!

First, Ginn was claiming that warmer weather _would_ slow down things enough so that it would burn out. I don't think MIT backed that...

Yet the other day, it seemed that most of the civilized Left universe turned their aim and angst against this anti-Trumper (no less!) for having the audacity to question assumptions in our methodologies and analysis. I am sure that most believed he was a Trump guy, hence the vitriol. Again, let's recall his offense: he sought to make all of us re-examine our assumptions and models on several fronts, so that supplies could be directed efficiently and not haphazardly.

If you are talking about Ginn, he was so far out over his skis he was flipping in air... Most everything he said was closer to wishful thinking than actual knowledgeable analysis. That is what we had problems with. Challenging this sort of stuff is important, because there are those who will pick up his thoughts and think well someone else is saying something different, so I can choose just to believe that instead.

The problem with that is that it is an example of lower level learning (one opinion is as good as another) which should be replaced by higher level thought as someone is educated. See Perry's Stages of Cognitive Development, which I have used in my classes for guiding discussions of difficult topics.

Don't you ever wonder what you are doing? It's comical to see bandwagons develop around any one issue, here on fanlax or Twitter or on MSM. You can always spot it a mile away. Last night, you just knew the Mensa candidates who drank fish tank cleaner would be blamed on Trump. This is too easy. The scary part of how easy it is, is when someone points to the Left's insanity (or imbecility), they are ganged up on.

I am here at fanlax merely to provide balance to an otherwise imbalanced debate.

In that sense of one opinion is as good as another...

Here's an interesting Op-Ed by a young Dartmouth coed.

https://www.thedartmouth.com/article/20 ... to-protest

This young lady makes the argument that she has the right to disrupt any speech, because her protest is also free speech.

In one regard, she's correct. Provided she doesn't threaten anyone, her right to assemble and speech is in fact a form of 1A. But unbeknownst to her, campus security also has the lawful right to deny her entrance or remove her forcibly should she interfere with the speaker's speech. What comes around goes around.

When civilized society simply wishes to hear speakers without interruption, and yet some choose to harass the speaker, the attendees are far likelier to dislike the harassers and their message (whatever it is). After all, you've ruined the attendees' learning.

If, Red, you've yet to see this article's type of mentality on your campus, it is but a matter of time. Most campuses already suffer from intimidation of conservative thought and speech.
