Here's a thought....
If all but Hopkins and lets say..... Towson drop out due to the COVID-19, we make the NCAA finals this year.
Johns Hopkins 2020
Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
Looks like we just moved up about 5-6 spots in the rankings.
I was thinking we should just wait to be the last team to cancel their season, declare ourselves champion, and add it to the placard in the corner of the stands. Kind of a UCF situation.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
Would not be surprised if Hopkins follows the Ivies
Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
And maybe get Joey Epstein his year back?
Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
I figure the JHU researchers would have come up with a Covid-19 vacine by now if the Jays were undefeated.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
Gotta give Petro credit. He picked the perfect time to have an awful season. Incredible foresight.
Feel horrible for the Ivy players, particularly guys like Sowers, but I don't think it'll be too long until the rest of the college landscape follows suit.
This situation is going to reverberate for years to come.

Hopkins at Navy still on for this Sat, with precautions.
Free admission, free parking, lower levels both sides open, no concessions, no tailgating.
The Hopkins band should take this game off (airborne contaminants)

Would Navy put out that statement without running it past Hopkins ?

All I’m saying is things are moving very fast with the NCAA. It may not be up to Hop or Navyold salt wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 7:32 pmBill Belichick is being presented the Key to the City (his hometown = Annapolis).flalax22 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 7:30 pmI’m predicting Hopkins cans the season by Friday.old salt wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 6:46 pm Hopkins at Navy still on for this Sat, with precautions.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
The NCAA? March Madness is still on sans fans. Why wouldn‘t lacrosse simply follow suit? I believe that the Ivy League pulled the plug all the way out too soon.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
Bcos march madness nets millions to the Unis. Not sure the television and ticket sales of lax tourney even covers travel expenses for the teams.
The Ivies had no choice as they have large proportion of students involved in athletics. Harvard supports 42 d1 teams; ~20% of all undergrads are athletes. At Dartmouth, its 25% of the undergrads who are athletes. Can't kick everyone out of the dorms by 5 pm Sunday (harvard), but then ask 20% to stay back. (yes, many of that 20% is out of season.)
Close down the teams, and no need for support staff as 100% of undergrads will be gone.
(And one big difference between teh top privates and publics is that the privates offer four-years on campus housing. Many/most? kids at the publics live off campus.)

Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
I‘m referring to the season itself, not to the tournament. The SUNY system has decided to let sporting events go on but without fans. I‘m hoping that other schools/systems will follow suit.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
I think we're going to see days, not weeks, of playing with just family in the stands.
But this thing is moving fast, so I suspect more and more schools will realize that they simply can't sustain the risks.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
Hopkins seems to have eliminated all “admissions events” which I assume includes sports. Effective today they are moving to online instruction. Non essential travel is also prohibited. Someone want to check my reading?

Re: Johns Hopkins 2020
I don't see how Hopkins can justify having their athletes and staff travel at the moment. With the school's standing in medicine/public health, I think at the very least they postpone the events in the coming weeks until the increase in cases slows down.
