The question is for how long will exponential growth in the number of infections continue. Because exponential growth is a female dog. Both medical advances and public health measure can flatten the curve and reduce the odds of overwhelming ERs, ICUs, and other resources, even if (say) a year or two from now everybody has been exposed.

That said, public health measures like the ones St. Louis adopted during the Spanish Flu will be painful, even if they are possible today.

In the meantime, I sure hope the Jays recover from their flu.

Just got word that St John's has cancelled all face to face classes and that students are to be out of the dorms by 3/11 unless they can't return home. All university events are cancelled until 3/27. Notice came out at 10:23PM EST. This is rapidly becoming a hot mess.

Am hearing that tomorrows game vs Hofstra is still on.

Maryland Governor has banned out of State travel for State employees. Lot of coaches and and staffs fall see that. The news did not report exceptions for sports but tv news wouldn’t probably get into that level of detail so maybe but.....

At present, children and young adults are not at risk. Exponential growth is unlikely to change this fact. Elderly and those with health issues are a different story. The reaction by colleges like Skidmore that just closed without a single case are going to cause more problems including contribute to misinformation and possible panic. This is getting out of hand.

Time will tell. TV news reported ALL state employees. I expect there are exceptions and the news just didn’t get into it in enough details. I don’t see it either. Too much money at stake.

Agreed.

The corona virus is serious. I have no doubt it might lead to more mortality among seniors, which obviously stinks. But this is certainly not THE ONE.

Our world now demands conformity and purity in every respect, hence the mad rush to extreme 'safety' (even when it makes you less safe). I'm no expert on this (or any matter to be frank), and maybe I'm the one who's wrong, but man oh man oh shevitz does this situation reek of collective madness. The rush to stores, hand sanitizers, toilet paper, the closing of schools, states, countries, events, travel...I lay the madness to media and online social media. If you point out the insanity, you are the one who's criticized. That's the very definition of madness.

The one thing I do agree with is do not go on a cruise. Even without Corona, these ships are Petri dishes of boorish awfulness. Disgusting, bloated Germans and Americans eating 24/7, gorging on buffet tables every second, passing gas, eating more, talking loudly. Vapid unhygenic bloviated masses of uselessness. Do yourself a huge favor and never take a cruise. Not to not catch Corona, but to simply save your money.

So, you want to build up immunities? Go out in the world and suck it up buttercup. Except cruises. What doesn't kill you will make you stronger. Lose and learn. The same message you teach kids on the lacrosse field.

Also, I bought some stocks yesterday (and I'm down already). But maybe back up today...who knows. Point is, relax. Let's play this season.

I understand the risk and concern with students traveling at Spring Break and bringing COVID-19 back to the campus. But, it seems like colleges are over reacting.

I also see why concerts, basketball games, and other events where crowds of strangers congregate are very high risk events. Maybe the NBA and NCAA basketball games should be played without live audiences.

Luckily (for once), lacrosse games draw small crowds. The risk is much lower. Hopefully, games continue, with fans watching TV / streamlining if necessary.

Effective immediately, University events are cancelled, at least through March 27. Event organizers are responsible for informing guests and attendees that their event has been cancelled. This includes outside organizers renting space at St. John’s.

Doesn't say anything about sports and I believe the game today vs Hofstra is on.

So what happens if sports are suspended? Do players get an extra year of eligibility? Do they resume season with current records and schedules at a later date? Man this is so unfortunate. I have no desire to suspend teams' seasons, but with classes being cancelled all over I don't see admins allowing sports to continue without interruption. UGH

This is all driven by insurance and legal, not health risk. When the attorneys tell you your insurance company has exercised an out clause if you persist in organizing large gatherings, there is no option other than to do what they are doing.

Will be interesting to see how they handle spring sports and graduation...
