The answer is simple - those of us that are left and right of the middle need to elect folks who will work together against the fringes of the Left and Right.

Au contraire, mon ami...
If it were THAT simple...
How do the candidates we GET to vote for come from? How to they get put in place to receive our votes?
In other words...it's probably more the system used to obtain qualified candidates that needs the work...
Course, this conversation should be taking place elsewhere in the Politics board.

FBI investigation confirmed.
The attempted Republican smear campaign against Mueller fizzled:
https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/31/media/ga ... index.html
For a little while on Tuesday, a document posted to The Gateway Pundit, a popular right-wing blog prone to peddling conspiracy theories, must have seemed to some of its readers like the perfect story.
The document was not just an allegation of sexual assault against Special Counsel Robert Mueller, a favorite enemy of President Trump's supporters -- it was also an opportunity to troll liberals, supporters of the #MeToo movement, and the media.
The blog's commenters were gleeful.
"We believe the victim...we believe the victim...we believe the victim...," the top comment read. "Proof doesn't matter. It's the seriousness of the charge," another commenter responded. A reply to that said, "Absolutely. Anyone who doesn't believe her is supporting sexual assault and attacking all women." And then another: "Lol time to rub it in."
Just a few hours later, however, the story collapsed. Journalists and internet sleuths tied a scheme to smear Mueller with charges of sexual assault to an entity called Surefire Intelligence. That firm was tied to 20-year-old Jacob Wohl, a far-right internet personality who has written for The Gateway Pundit and who was previously banned from financial trading by the National Futures Association over allegations of fraud, and to a number of fake LinkedIn profiles apparently intended to create the impression that Surefire Intelligence was a legitimate and impressive organization with several employees.

Sessions is fired/quit. Trump apparently worried Jr. is about to be indicted according to report by NYMAG early this morning.

So, here's the question: does Whitaker refuse Mueller approval to indict Don Jr or anyone else?
Assuming that all such indictments that Mueller would bring forward will be very heavy on paper, with overwhelming evidence in support, Whitaker would be in a situation of saying no to an indictment that no one other than a political hack would say no to...and with the knowledge that the Dems will undoubtedly subpoena Mueller on this topic and will be able to see the case that would have been brought.
Re: The Mueller Investigation
That didn't take long.
Reporting is that Sessions resigned, rather than be fired. I believe a resignation (rather than a firing) is what allows Whitaker to be acting AG. Normal practice upon an AG departure would be for the deputy AG (i.e. Rod R) to be acting AG. That obviously didn't happen here.
Note that deputy AG Rod R was Mueller's boss only because he was next in line to a recused AG. Now that there's an acting AG, I believe Mueller now has a new boss. Unless the acting AG decides to recuse/delegate which is TBD.
Since he was a Sessions confidante, Whitaker might want/need to recuse for the same reasons that Sessions did. If he doesn't recuse/delegate, who the hell knows what might happen.

Boycott stupid. If you ignore the gator troll, eventually he'll just go back under his bridge.
Re: The Mueller Investigation
Mueller is prepared for this. He has multiple indictments under seal, under Rosenstein's signature. IMO. Personally I think this is a gambit on Trump's part. He is just poking around to see if he can find a soft spot. He won't. Bobby Three Sticks knows his scumbags.MDlaxfan76 wrote:jhu72 wrote:Sessions is fired/quit. Re: The Mueller Investigation
I wish that were the question. There is a 100% chance that Trump orchestrated Sessions' resignation, and Whitaker's promotion, with the clear understanding that Whitaker's first (and really only) responsibility is to fire Mueller and shut down the investigation. He's going to pull a Saturday night massacre and get away with it.MDlaxfan76 wrote:So, here's the question: does Whitaker refuse Mueller approval to indict Don Jr or anyone else?
Re: The Mueller Investigation
The central question remains...what is Don afraid of? If, as he says, he did nothing wrong and there was no collusion/conspiracy/obstruction...WHY would he pull such a blatantly obvious DUMASS move like this today? WHAT IS HE HIDING?

Re: The Mueller Investigation
He's worried that Jr. might be indicted by the grand jury? Javanka frog-marched to prison for an obstruction indictment?? Has this become a "Family" thing for Don? All these other indictments were on expendable nobodies...but his FAMILY? Is THAT what Don is afraid of?

It has been floating in the air for weeks that the kids were going to be indicted. The election is over, Bobby was going to strike soon, Jr. is easy pickings. There is also the grand jury subpoena reported to be hanging over his head. OD is/was being squeezed, time running out. It only gets worse the longer he waits.

Re: The Mueller Investigation
I don't get your logic diss. Help me(us) out. To me is it not better for Trump and Family if Sessions stays put as AG. By his leaving that leaves a vacuum of more uncertainty for Trump IF he is hiding or protecting something/someone. Or are you simply projecting your wishes of his guilt?dislaxxic wrote:The central question remains...what is Don afraid of? A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Not placing as much emphasis on the firing/resignation...despite my exclamation that made it look like i was more closely linking the two events. He seems very afraid of something...desperate, almost, to get rid of the Mueller probe. Do YOU think he will actually sit back and let it proceed? Will he simply attempt to tie it up in court, fighting subpoenas, un-sealing of indictments, reporting the matter out to the House?
It sounds like you feel that this move does NOT portend more activity leveled directly against the probe...

His fear is the kids. There is only so much he can do. Dems taking the house really cuts off his last line of retreat, it seems to me. The democrats ultimately get to decide what happens to any report Mueller might release.
