After quick reading, good news, but it is still in development. Puts it slightly behind the US drugs being looked at. Still would need Fauci's canonical year of clinical trials. To get it to the public any sooner someone would have to wave clinical testing requirements - ie - gamble. The article does talk about going to production prior to completion of clinical testing, ie., gambling. Presumably these trials would be done in Israel.Jim Malone wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 1:59 pm Coronavirus Vaccine 'Weeks' Away From Being Developed, Says Head of Israeli Science Research Institute

Re: Well Golly! We are doomed.
A study released this week in the United States shows that 38% of them said they “would not buy Corona [beer] under any circumstances now." Their fears are linked to the coronavirus, the respiratory illness COVID-19 that has infected thousands of people around the globe.
Corona is a “victim," some reports say, of unfortunate wordplay, as there is no known link between those who drink Corona beer and those who have contracted the virus. One article on medium.com even says “rumors go viral faster than the actual virus."
5WPR’s recent survey — which also shows that 16% of those studied “were confused about whether Corona beer is related to the virus” — proves that some Americans are not sure how the virus is (or is not) spread.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on coronavirus: "The strong measures taken by our Party and the government from the beginning have been the surest and highly reliable, preemptive and decisive preventive measures as this viral infection spreads so rapidly. In case the infectious disease spreading beyond control finds its way into our country, it will entail serious consequences.”

Stephen Miller’s new wife, Katie Miller, is in charge of approving all coronavirus communications. Widespread testing in the US has not yet begun. Calming the market? Pfft.

The "serious consequences" are that Kim will execute anyone who tests positive for the virus. Don't give Trump any ideas.Trinity wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 4:57 pm North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on coronavirus: "The strong measures taken by our Party and the government from the beginning have been the surest and highly reliable, preemptive and decisive preventive measures as this viral infection spreads so rapidly. Yup. Appears this is independent of the case in Vacaville. So we likely have people with the disease running around the northeast bay and the southwest bay areas.

Saw an informative press conf on the local CBS station. 65 yr old woman, in poor health.
No travel or contact with Solano Co. CDC doc on hand & impressive local public health officials.
A CA state official said they now have sufficient kits for 8 public labs in CA to process tests in under 48 hrs.

Fauci appeared on Hardball and said he really wasn't muzzled. Wonder if he will appear on Sunday talk shows now?

500 people have been tested in the US so far. Thousands tested everywhere else. We’ve known about this since December. It’s like we’re wiping ourselves with rocks.

Re: All things CoronaVirus
Under 48 hrs? My understanding is the test takes 15 minutes to run once the sample is available (based on original CDC kit). Certainly under 48 hours, but strange way to say 15 minutes. Still no word on point of care tests, which likely means we are no where near having that ability. Also haven't heard how accurate (specific / sensitive) the tests are.old salt wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:26 pmSaw an informative press conf on the local CBS station. 65 yr old woman, in poor health.

A private lab in New Jersey claims they have developed (independently) a test that takes 2 hours and is more accurate than the CDC test.
Not exactly a lot of information out there about the details / performance specifications for the tests.

Not contained.
South Korea has gone through over 10,000 COVID-19 tests today. People who have symptoms (or not) can even get themselves tested at these testing drive-thru stations. The process takes 10 mins.

Why can't we get a COVID19 test at the Jack in the Box drive thru ?

SK is apparently producing 100,000 kits per day now...old salt wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 1:38 pmIt's not realistic to expect that many test kits for a new virus available that quickly or to waste them on travelers without symptoms.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 12:46 pmObama's policy turned out to be marvelously successful. In retrospect, they handled it very, very well.
Of course, the situations are different, though the argument is much the same.
Travel bans have all sorts of negative effects and it's pretty clear that unless there's a worldwide travel ban from all countries this particular virus will get here.
Far more effective would be ramping up testing protocols of all entrants to the US from any country with suspected virus outbreaks. But we are way, way behind in that regard.
My son did get ...a follow up call on the phone from the CDC, but never were tested.
