This is not a new thing. We've had trouble clearing for years. It's just been exposed with the 20-second clock.
Maybe the Jays don't practice clearing. Maybe the defense can't replicate what other schools do on the ride if the Jays do practice clearing. A quality D1 school should not look this bad.

Which is exactly why Petro needs to go. The game has left him behind 3-4 years ago, but the shot clock era has amplified the differences between a Petro and a Lars Tiffany. Plus the kids look like they are having much more fun playing under Tiffany than Petro.

Darby hasn't played poorly. I wouldn't say he played great. One of the bigger issues is that he doesn't get the ball out of the his stick on clears. He holds it way to long.

The bigger issue is the Hopkins long sticks are just awful. There isn't a good athlete among them and their stick work is horrendous - honestly the entire team has substandard stickwork. Good thing they chased Rapine away. They spend way too much time ball watching and not enough time moving. They can't defend a cutter to save their life. I get Petro likes man to man but with this group he has to play zone. There isn't enough speed or talent to match up in man-to-man on Hopkins defense. But, hey, stubborn and loyal tend to be the opposite sides of the same coin.

Blue Jays are trailing by 6 goals with 6 minutes remaining and they’re not even pressing out on defense. Meanwhile, UNC plays the ten-man ride like they’re trailing by 10 goals and gets the ball back.

How many bad passes did Cole Williams make today? Talking about a senior playing like a freshman.

Not at least showing UNC some zone in this game is inexcusable.

1-2 on the year. 9-11 last 20.
up
prouty
down
forry/owen. Forry was at one pt the earliest recruited kid in the country, is a 2x captain and he creates turnovers, doesn't put points on the scoreboard, the offense disappears and he creates emo for other teams. Owen has been on years of underachieving defenses that don't grab gbs, are disorganized+can't stop people.
coaching staff- 9-11 last 20. they're out game planned, can't make in game adjustments, put the same kids who show the same pitiful results week in week out year in year out (connor disimone/forry/baskin), and can't put an elite team on the field. we read all about a better mindset, more hustle and this team is allergic to picking up gbs, makes mental mistakes.
baskin-31 flavors of garbage. Why he and forry are playing over angelus/murphy is bizarre to me right now. where's the accountability.
clearing-a joke
man down-carolina was at 80 coming in, it's not like we didn't know what was coming.
hubler/reinson, they're leaders on that d, play 2 phases and don't get gbs or stop their men.
mcmanus-not a d1 player. terrible.
2nd midfield-we don't have one.
jack lyne-you're not good enough to take penalties.

1-2 with cuse/princeton looming. Lose either and it's win the b1g or miss the tournament and start of a new coaching staff.

This team might legitimately start 1-4.

And the “easy” stretch of MSM, Navy, Delaware suddenly doesn’t look so easy either...

The problem with all the accountability talk is that it comes from the guy who isn't accountable

One of the most important advantages of playing an aggressive defense and ride is that your team sees that every day in practice. It’s pretty clear the Blue Jays aren’t accustomed to seeing such pressure in practice.

Petro needs to get his team playing faster and more aggressively.

Darby had a decent game stopping shots, but his crew (and it is his crew) failed miserably on clears. Giacalone deserves a chance at starting.

I still don’t understand why Narewski didn’t get more faceoff opportunities. Prouty was “winning” faceoffs but not cleanly. Makes a big difference.

God this is just so off base lol. Rapine was the worst athlete of that bunch. McManus can handle it and take it up field but that appeared not to be in the game plan.

Response to the 10-man ride was truly embarrassing. At a total loss of words.

13-19 on clears, 6 penalties = automatic loss no matter who you're playing.

Box score reads 2 turnovers. Forry had three. Going after our leading scorer yet again...sounds about right for this forum.

Angelus played like 5 minutes and had a goal and an assist. Only explanation for the lack of Murphy has to be an injury, otherwise...mindboggling.

Fine for Petro to play man-to-man, but if you do you need to press out and pressure opponents. Get on their hands. Harass them all over the field. To use the key word of the season, if you’re going to play man-to-man in this era, you need full “buy-in” and play man-to-man aggressively.

That’s what Loyola does. That’s what North Carolina does.

Petro’s defenses are more than a decade behind the times.

End of every season all the talk is about change. Every season it is just more of the same. Maybe this is the year we really see change.
