Practices start?
Re: ~The MIAA “A” 2020~
They've all been pretty much practicing through the winter months, "working within the rules."

Boys Latin has purchased an adjacent 28 acres in Poplar Hill and plans to transform a retirement home for Josephite priests and brothers into a boarding school for students...

I honestly think that, since Route 97 came about like thirty years ago, Severn Lacrosse has been at a disadvantage people don't think about all the time. That is, with Route 97, many Anne Arundel County residents who want their kids to attend private, secondary schools have sent them to such schools in Baltimore. Not much trouble or too time-consuming getting there.

[New property will be used for 'Full Pay" International & Out of State students, not for FOGO's and SSDM's. That $5M price tag is not going to be paid off by admission to the MIAA Finals ]
Re: ~The MIAA “A” 2020~
Out-of-state lacrosse players, including FOGOs and SSDMs, will want to go to BL.

I've seen it at other places in the MIAA.
Money talks.
If they pay full boat or the ability to make a large donation later, they will likely get on-campus housing.
International students have been quite a boon for many private schools. Old Fields figured that out many moons ago.

MSJ certainly gets a lot of AA County kids, but there are not many going towards the north side of Baltimore (even though coaches are promising much when they walk the sidelines during middle school HoCo spring ball). AA is losing kids to WCAC (DeMatha) and IAC.gymman1031 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 9:25 pm I honestly think that, since Route 97 came about like thirty years ago, Severn Lacrosse has been at a disadvantage people don't think about all the time. Lax is still a rich sport, and many of those out of town laxers parents will pay full boat, for the opportunity to play in the MIAA.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 7:02 pm Boys Latin has purchased an adjacent 28 acres in Poplar Hill and plans to transform a retirement home for Josephite priests and brothers into a boarding school for students...

Full boat is key.
And likelyhood of donating more during/after those 4 years will probably improve your chances of getting a room on campus.

I never knew no Godfather. I got my own family, Senator."
Re: ~The MIAA “A” 2020~
They don't have to pay full boat if they split the enrollment with Chinese, etc. exchange students as I am hearing. Those folks will pay the full freight to defray the costs for the athletes. But, yes, lacrosse families may be willing to fork it over for a chance to play in the MIAA in a storied program. One way or another, this is a game-changer for the Lakers and the league.
Re: ~The MIAA “A” 2020~
The Preseason Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse High School Top 25 Power Rankings are finally here.
Calvert Hall (Md.) begins the spring of 2020 in the No. 1 spot, having shared the mythical UA/IL National Championship with Culver (Ind.) to end the 2019 season. Playing with a target on their back won't be anything new for the Cardinals, who accomplished an unprecedented feat last May by winning the program's third-consecutive MIAA crown. Coach Bryan Kelly's program graduated four Power 100 recruits that were honored as Under Armour All-Americans and members of the U.S. U-19 team, but the talent pool is nowhere close to dry. With the Cardinals having won their final seven games by an average of 11.1 goals, the offense will be led by five-star seniors Cole Herbert and Daniel Kelly, while returning sophomore starter Truitt Sunderland is an emerging star at attack.

Re: ~The MIAA “A” 2020~
After the big three of CH, McD and BL, the middle of the MIAA pack will be interesting to watch. It appears LB and Gilman might be able to challenge the top tier this year. I think StP AS and St Mary’s are that next tier. With perhaps JC knocking on the door. Could be a long season for MSJ and Severn.
Re: ~The MIAA “A” 2020~
Hall sends Bullis packing 13-5 yesterday. Looks like Cardinals have some depth that might have been unexpected. Young guys playing really well early.
Re: ~The MIAA “A” 2020~
1200 boys, an FCA feeder program and a good coach are a recipe for continued success. Gonna be tough for any team in the MIAA to knock them off their perch. Maybe BL, LB, GIL, SM or McD get lucky and catch them on an off day. Probably not.
